  1. Although nowadays GH5 and 5d 4k raw () are getting most of our attention, my partner GX80 doesnt let me down. Nothing special, yet another festival recap. This time however, I started getting used to color masks to remove the orange/green tint. Not perfect yet, plenty of room for improvement. Tell me what you think:
  2. it is quite awesome, that the losless tele converter now also works in 4K (in contrast to the GX80, sadly), so that users get a 1.4x crop which is nearly the same as having two focal lengths with just one lens. This together with the Summilux 12 as praised by @jonpais would make it quite awesome... Must resist.

    Canon vs Sony or...

    Wow, that looks awesome!
  4. Well, check out my latest to videos on vimeo on your TV. bahamas was shot in 4k, hoge veluwe in 1080p - do you see the night and day difference?
  5. I did. Like I said, the 4k image is spellbinding, but so is the 1080p image. And since no one sits like 1 meter away from his 65" TV, why even bothering? Heck, my audience doesnt see it, so why should I care? These are questions I am asking myself.
  6. Yesterday I watched my more recent videos on my brothers 65" 4K TV, obviously starting with my latest 4k project. I was really blown away about the detail and the resolution. However, then I watched a 1080p (60p) video and I was suprised how good it looked on that same TV. I dont really know whether I would be able to spot the 4k content vs 1080p content from the GX80. Makes me think how great the Blackmagic cams are... must resist.

True. The shots where i hold still are breathtaking. Yet, I want the moving, so I am better of with 4k than 1080p anyway However I really would love sth with a high bitrate codec to avoid the compression artifacts on water surfaces, etc..
  8. Definitely. This is one of the things I dont really like on my GX80, even when using the LCD the video looks sooo much better later in post on my computer. Would trade for better screen / EVF any day.
  9. In my opinion, the Noktons are far away of being too hard to use, see for example this project, which I shot 100% with the Nokton 25 (although not wide open, mostly arround f2-f4): Would I do this trip again in the same constellation? Nope, I would rely more on AF for those spotaneous situation, where time does matter.

The Sigma is great, without question - but I wasnt as impressed as I thought I would be. Could you spot the places in my Bahamas edit where the Sigma was used and where the cheapish Panasonic 20mm? Well, I couldnt.

This. In theory I would just slap the Voigtländer on any camera and be done with it. But now that I use some native glas, AF is really nice. On the other hand it makes me lazy, maybe eventually having a negative effect on my effectiveness of focus pulling...
  12. I like the Pana much more. Better focus ring, even when the Oly is in manual mode and the color has something special. Really looking forward to my next project with that lens.

That Nikkor is indeed a great lens.

Thanks will check out that video. Btw, I didnt present any shot with the 15mm yet, maybe you confused the almighty 20mm from my last edit

I would vote for seperate tests, personally I dont care for the Fuji Wow... you have a lens home run game going on or what? Although I am very in love with my Summilux 15 currently, the Summilux 12 urges a desire in me...
  16. Yes, I think so. Having AF is very convenient if you are on the run or simply cant really see the peaking on the screen / evf. Now with the Summilux 15, it seems i got the perfect allrounder - good fov, fast AF and a decent focus ring - all in a small package!
  17. The Bahamas are quite famous for their swimming pigs - no one really knows where they came from, yet they are there We really wanted to see them, so thats the reason why they have such a big feature in my edit And no, no UC filter this time. I think that I will only use it when there is no sun at all, because with sunlight (or any other bright light sources) the thing gets quite annoying.
  18. Here is my first 4K-based adventure with the GX80. I am suprised I didnt really miss the slow-mo at all. Although rendering takes ages on my Macbook Pro 2011 (3min video took 3:45h for rendering!), editing with proxy files works without any hickup. I am amazed by the quality and I think I will continue using 4K from now on. Lenses used: Sigma 18-35, but mostly the Panasonic 20mm. I already sold the Speedbooster XL and the Sigma, it is just too huge and even with the 4K crop one sees the vignette when the stabilization kicks in.
  19. no, it does not - no fly by wire lens does afaik.
  20. Of course it goes over it. No hard stops until you use olympus lenses with snapback.
  21. I own this lens now since a couple of weeks and I tend to state that is next to perfect for my needs. the af is fast, rendering awesome and the focus ring is very smooth - and like the Pana 20mm, the focussing isnt influenced by the speed you turn the ring - very rare for m43 lenses and very awesome! i can totally recommend you this lens, solely based on the focus ring alone.

Which strengths do you use? And when do you choose the normal satin filter, when the black satin?

I like it a lot, looks really cool! Did you intentional choose b/w or did you just dislike the Sony color? All handheld or did you have a gimbal?
  24. I second that. Although I can only speak for the GX80, the colors look WAY better with -2/3 exposure. One should not take the camera's LCD to judge exposure, it looks quite dark, but on the computer much better and there is plenty of room to lift the mids if needed. I think from now on I will always shoot with -2/3 except in low light.
