I've owned the A7S since July now, until recently I've had a tough time trying to grade S-LOG 2 footage. With my new custom LUT, That shouldn't be a problem. It's based around the default Slog-2/ S-Gamut Profile, the only modification being +23 Saturation. Since I've invested so much time into this, I've decided to sell it. But only for a small price: https://sellfy.com/p/qC1i/ I hope this helps you guys out there. Quick Grading Tutorial:

I've shot a fair amount of test footage, and ETTR by +1 always seems to give me the best images. I've never had an issue with getting a reading? ( I know it sounds silly, I'm coming from shooting on 5d mk3 and always used the histogram for exposure. I tried that approach with the A7s and everything I shot looked horrible. As soon as switched to ETTR +1, the a7s finally became the camera i wanted it to be.)

I would disagree with the comment about nailing the exposure is hard. If you use the inbuilt meter (the part that says M.M at the bottom), and aim for +1 (0.7- 1.3 is okay) Then you will consistently get beautiful images.

I'm stacking Impulz luts and getting this grade out of camera http://imgur.com/a/7AwhJ (stills from unchanged SLOG 2 footage) -
I also brought this camera, problem is everything is in hong kong. Some one please tell me how to get the menus in english.... Figured it out, Go to the toolbox menu, then go to the fourth page and find a menu with an A icon. Scroll until you find English.

Hi, The Sony A7s has a histogram inbuilt, so you will be able to use that for exposure. I'm not entirely sure about the the metabones adapter myself, but i found a version called "Viltrox EF-NEX II" for £70.00 (I spoke to some one on vimeo using it. Apparently the IS and aperture control works fine, while the autofocus is slow. But that appears to be the same with all adapters) You will need to buy a variable ND (neutral density) to shoot in daylight.

Hey Andrew, just wondered if your a7s came through with out a problem as well?

Hi there, I understand that I can achieve the same result just using fast cc (adjusting the whites/blacks etc), I just preferred doing it in 2 steps with slog (luma step for the major, fast cc for the minor tweaks) I actually found I got a better image that way, but I think it might of just been a placebo effect. This was more for the crowd that was just sticking a LUT on it and calling it a day. If you understand the concept behind this, then you can grade anything to your specific preference/look. What's most important to me, is that I can nearly get the quality of 5d mk3 raw with out the all of the converting. The a7s really does seem to have the dynamic range its marketed to have.

So skin colour, lives in the midtones. Open up the three way colour corrector, then compensate for what ever colour cast you have using the midtone wheel.

So I know some people are having problems grading the s-log 2 coming out the of a7s. I managed to find a decent way, to grade it in Premiere Pro CC, so i thought I'd share it with you.

Seriously tempted to go for this myself, I'm looking forward to a purchase report.

As mentioned before it was shot at 1920 x 544 for 20+ seconds bursts on a komputerbay 1000x 64gb card. It was then stretched to 1920 x 878 in davinci rendered at 50fps. Then stuck on a 1080 timeline interporlated at 25fps. The lenses used were: Canon 50mm 1.2 Canon 16-35mm 2.8 Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS Canon 24-105mm 4 IS

Hi guys we recently shot an advert for Adidas using the 5d mk3 magic lantern raw hack. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

I watched the Great Gatsby recently and I'm obssessed with vivid colours, https://vimeo.com/67525279 Love how far you can push the grade with Raw. -
For a €1700 budget I would get a 550d/ti2 (or what ever the cheapest entry level camera is) no stock lens, since it's rubbish. Tamron 24-70m 2.8 VC (38.4m-112m) for 1.6 crop. This lens is handy if your planning to upgrade to fullframe. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tamron-24-70mm-F2-8-Lens-Canon/dp/B007RKL1KE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369735340&sr=8-1&keywords=tamron+24-70 Or Tamron 17-50m VC ( 27.2m - 80m) for 1.6 crop. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tamron-AF17-50mm-Aspherical-Canon-Mount/dp/B002OED6ZQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369735780&sr=8-1&keywords=17-50+vc+tamron Canon 50m 1.8 (85m) for 1.6 crop http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-EF-50-1-8-Lens/dp/B00005K47X/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369735985&sr=1-1&keywords=50mm+1.8 Most obvious choice in the world, Just please don't constantly use this at 1.8, as nothing will be in focus unless it's a very locked off shot. You will need Image stabilization on your lens if your going to do any shoulder mount stuff (which I can guarantee you will). I can't count the number of times I've used expensive rigs and still gone back to this shoulder mount. http://www.amazon.co.uk/CowboyStudio-Shoulder-Support-Camcorder-Camera/dp/B0036NMQ7S/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369735805&sr=1-1&keywords=cowboy+shoulder+mount It's made out of heavy duty plastic, it just works. Yes it will fall apart eventually, but at £20 it doesn't matter. For Sound I'm guessing your going to be doing sit down interviews? Zoom h1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/H1-PORTABLE-DIGITAL-RECORDER-DICTAPHONE/dp/B0043QMZUK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369736119&sr=1-1&keywords=zoom+h1 Combined with http://www.amazon.co.uk/LAVALIER-MICROPHONE/dp/B003Z8OUUA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369736139&sr=1-1&keywords=rode+lavalier Congradulations you've just got yourself a wireless lavalier system. If you want to go with anything abit more advanced ( which would probably require 2 people) Tascam DR-60D http://www.gak.co.uk/en/tascam-dr-60d/83022?gclid=CNPZuLnJuLcCFQ3KtAodGBMAmQ Rode NTG2 http://www.amazon.co.uk/RODE-NTG2-SHORT-SHOTGUN-MICROPHONE/dp/B000YCSHG8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369736413&sr=1-1&keywords=rode+ntg2 Micro boom http://www.amazon.co.uk/RODE-2m-Micro-Lightweight-Boompole/dp/B004X4UZB8/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1369736442&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=rode+micro+boom Decent Set of head Phones, Sennhesier 380 hd pro http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD-380-Pro-Collapsible/dp/B001UE6I0G/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1369736467&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=sennheiser+380+hd+pro Tripod http://www.amazon.co.uk/PROFESSIONAL-CAMCORDER-TRIPOD-Please-Worldwide/dp/B0032YF9HA/ref=sr_1_26?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369736596&sr=1-26&keywords=tripod+konig Lighting I quite like to use flourescent lights this ebay seller has some nice 4 banks for fairly cheap. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fluorescent-Light-Bank-4-Professional-Studio-Continuous-Lighting-220W-4x55W-Tube-/181007156305?pt=UK_Photography_StudioEquipment_RL&hash=item2a24de0451 They use Osram deluxe daylight balanced tubes which are actually fairly decent. Combine this with a up to 300w Dimmer switch http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000LAU04K/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 congradulations you now have dimmable lighting.. Also I can't reiterate how helpfull it is to have a simple recflector http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collapsible-Portable-Photographic-Lighting-Reflector/dp/B002ZIMEMW/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369737043&sr=1-1&keywords=neewer+reflector I Think that is pritty much it for now.
