  1. @Gregormannschaft Thanks! It's a frame grab.
  2. Jon, could you explain IBIS to me again? (click twice to see full quality)
  3. Production cinema cameras don't have IBIS either.
  4. So what's the headline feature here? According to @IronFilm, it's TC. For me, it's the new sensor. And since I use lights, being able to shoot at ISO 3200 and beyond is a nothing burger to me. If however, skin tones and noise are significantly better than they already are with the GH5 at ISO 400-800, that might sway me.
  5. I transcode to virtually lossless ProRes before editing my 400Mbps ALL-Intra clips. It's no big deal. The footage looks awesome. But yeah, even on my maxed-out 2017 27" iMac, it'll drop frames if I try to edit the native GH5 files (after adding a camera LUT anyhow).
  6. The GH5 has TC https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1252486/Panasonic-Dc-Gh5.html?page=169

  8. @IronFilm Check out the link I posted to his new GH5 build.
  9. @mercer If you ask, I'm sure he'll tell you. afaik, he also ditched Sony. Not saying these aren't all great cameras, just I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Panasonic either.
  10. @mercer Have a look at my edited reply. So yeah, like I never tire of repeating, image quality doesn't exist in a vacuum. Features that make life simpler for the filmmaker are always welcome.
  11. @mercer He says he prefers the image quality. I would never choose the BMMCC again to be honest. I don't believe the colour science is at all better, let alone far better I get no IR contamination with the GH5 and in 10-bit V-LOG, skin tones are beautiful. On the dynamic range side of things, the Micro has 1.5 extra stops...which isn't much....and honestly, I've never found myself needing more than 10 in my entire career. So, personally, I'm ready to sell the Micro! Does that mean the Micro isn't a great camera? Not at all...it's awesome! But I like the GH5 better for a number of reasons, not just regarding image quality. Markus Magnon I'm pretty sure it's an extra 1.5 stops over what you say in Vlog...and what? I still have to record vlog and a high bit rate? How is that something to complain about? I don't post videos like this to upset people...I'm just sharing and being enthusiastic about my latest build that works really well. I have a lot of experience as a working professional DoP (over 10 years) having shot many films and tested many cameras. I'm excited these days with how tiny cheap cameras can compare (image qaulity wise) with others I've owned and operated in the past that cost 10 x more. I care a LOT about dyanmic range and bit depth. Give us a break.... From comments section over at YT.
  12. Matthew Scott , a supremely gifted colorist and accomplished cinematographer, went from shooting Red to the BMMCC to the GH5. Anybody in this thread have a look at any of his grading tutorials, lighting setups or reels and tell me he isn't a pro who knows his shit. 'nough said.
  13. The GH5s is for professional cinematographers, the GH5 is for YouTubers.
  14. I never shoot handheld anymore - always a rig, sticks or gimbal. ?
  15. I’ve only had it for four months now, and my GH5 is already obsolete!
  16. really? Then the a7r is for prosumers, the a7s for real pros? sorry, I must be missing something here. Your average consumer has no need for dual card slots, wave form monitor, vector scope, anamorphic, HLG, five pages (!) in the playback menu, 10-bit 4:2:2, 400Mbps ALL-Intra, full HDMI either. Zacuto, Atomos and countless other pro-oriented manufacturers, either in collaboration with Panasonic or on their own, produce gear specifically for the GH* series. And at trade shows, we regularly see exhibitors pairing their gear with flagship Panasonic mirrorless cameras, most recently in my recollection, Atlas showed off their $7,000 Orion 65mm T2 mounted on a GH*.
  17. in what way, shape or form is the GH5 not a pro camera? c’mon - 10-bit 4:2:2, 4K 60p, dual card slots, full HDMI, wave form monitor, HLG.
  18. So - multi-aspect sensor, timecode, C4K 60p, pre-installed V-Log, an extra stop of low light... ?
  19. Not overly fond of the harsh lighting on David Sandberg's face, the fake window directly behind his head, the over-sharpening, the magenta skin tones and all the teal. The interviewer benefits from better lighting and background. Audio's clear though.
  20. @Givememypips Please refrain from quoting long passages of comments when not necessary.
  21. @IronFilm You beat me to it. ? Even factoring in accessories like gimbals to make up for the lack of IBIS and an inexpensive monitor with zebras and peaking for critical focus, the real cost of owning a GH2 actually rises quite rapidly.
