Twigs and leaves hold no interest for me - but the inability to adjust highlight/shadows or to reduce in-camera sharpening would be enough to dissuade me from using the X-Pro 2 for shooting 4K, even with no extra crop in 4K.

You mean the camera's info, not the Ninja's, don't you?

According to 43Rumors, the new Image App is supposed to enable remote control of both the GH5 and G9 via Bluetooth only (with the exception of image transfers). I haven’t had problems with the wifi recently, but it used to drive me nuts (taking forever to connect, losing connection while filming). Bluetooth should help improve stability greatly. Strangely, I’m not seeing any new updates yet over at iTunes or on Panasonic’s support site, but can’t wait to try it out.

@maxotics For sure, I had the gain set too high. @andrgl Whatever your opinion of the mic, it's capable of much better sound than I recorded.
-
@Axel I think I am gonna need a Decklink after all. ? I still haven’t got the Inferno. It was supposed to arrive at the shop a couple weeks ago.
-
@Anaconda_ @IronFilm Yeah, I hear that high pitched garbling in the background too. My levels are below -12. I’ll try another with gain set even lower, but maybe my room acoustics just suck.

What ML is doing is entirely within the law. Here’s Andrew’s article.

@Orangenz ISPs will most certainly create slow and fast lanes. This will be bad for independent media and small content creators. Subscribers to Netflix and other streaming services will have to ante up to receive decent service. We will end up paying more. In many cases, consumers won't have a choice - many areas simply don't have a selection of ISPs to choose from. Anyhow, it's all said and done, and it's game over.

VESA has announced badly needed guidelines for (LCD) HDR monitors - one problem being, they’ve created three tiers, and the lowest one is so lax, your current monitor probably qualifies as HDR already. Another issue, as I see it, is that the top tier specifies 1000 nits, which is probably overdoing things for a monitor you’ll be seated only a couple feet away from. Finally, creating several levels is only going to create confusion. Still no criteria for OLED displays source

@Dustin The shape of the Manfrotto fits in my hand perfectly. I think it will do the trick.
-
@Dustin At $400-500, the G85 is a steal. The Manfrotto you linked to is double the price here in Vietnam, and triple in Singapore and I much prefer it over the gorillapod for the purposes you’ll be using it for.

Veydra Mini Primes vs. SLR Magic Hyperprimes for MFT
jonpais replied to HenryTheGoodman's topic in Cameras
Thanks for that. I'm assuming the OP's not considering PL lenses. -
I'm not posting in the anamorphic thread any longer because of the hostility I'm getting there, but Tito Ferradans mentions the Atlas lenses in his latest video, and he's as excited about them as I am.There's no way I'm going to have one shipped to Vietnam, but if they're going to be at any trade shows in Asia next year, I'll be sure to attend.

Veydra Mini Primes vs. SLR Magic Hyperprimes for MFT
jonpais replied to HenryTheGoodman's topic in Cameras
AFAIK, SLR Magic doesn't even have a website, which is pretty sketchy if you ask me. If I'm mistaken about that, please point me in the right direction. A set of cine lenses should ideally have identical filter thread sizes, same size front outer diameter (preferably 80mm) and T stops, little to no breathing, and on and on. As @John Brawley says, their mechanics are all different, which kind of defeats the entire purpose of getting a set of cine lenses in the first place. The SLR Magics are in fact nothing more than photo lenses with two gear rings and different engravings. Might as well purchase a set of Voigtlanders and attach follow focus gears - optically and mechanically, I'm guessing the quality will probably be much better. I don't even know whether SLR Magic actually uses T stops - all I know is that their 50mm had f stops - rather unusual for a cine lens. I'd say the SLR Magics are more of a novelty than anything else. The Veydras were designed as cinema lenses from the ground up. There are several places where you can find thorough tests of all the Veydra lenses online, and Veydra's own website posts the specs of their lenses too. -
Can anyone tell me why my audio track sounds like I'm talking into a garbage can? I'm using a new Blue Yeti mic set on cardiod pattern, speaking just a few inches away from the mic. Thanks! Duh! I just realized that my project is set to 48 Khz, the voiceover is 44.1 Khz. But I’ve got audio in my clips recorded at 48 Khz...

Allowing ISPs to throttle your internet speeds, create slow and fast lanes to stifle competition and giving the green light to extract tolls from content providers to guarantee reliable service to customers is going to make the internet more expensive for all of us. I guess what many still don't understand is that this is a huge handout to corporations that supported dumpf or his cronies during his campaign, just like everything else he's done or tried to do since taking office. Like Repeal Obamacare, which would reward insurers while millions lose their health insurance. Like the new tax law, which will see millions of middle class Americans paying more, while the rich get richer. Like Whitefish Energy, the two-man company his administration awarded a $300 million contract to in order to restore Puerto Rico's power. Passing a law prohibiting customers from suing banks immediately after Equifax negligently enabled a breach of their system - after many warnings by the government to tighten up their security. The greed of some of these corporations knows no boundaries - Equifax even had the audacity to charge people $10.00 to freeze their accounts until the government stepped in. But if nearly 50% of the electorate is willing to vote for an alleged serial sex offender in Alabama (who the president, himself an alleged sex offender, continued to endorse), I guess people get the leaders they deserve.

He keeps repeating how simple it is. Not ideal, but no need to buy expensive third party hardware if you’ve got the Flame or Inferno. I’m still waiting on mine, it’s already a week behind.
-
If it’s got clean ISO 6400, and you shoot with a focal reducer, what else will those who dislike u/4/3 find to complain about?
-
Apparently, the Fujinon 80mm f/2.8 macro is another spectacular lens from Fuji. Lenstip just had reservations about huge vignetting and a pretty large discrepancy in resolution between the center and edges, not that it’s bad (it’s incredible!), but for a macro device, and given its size and weight, they expected there to be no compromises. Since I’ve already got the 90mm f/2 and I haven’t shot with the Fuji in a long while, I won’t be rushing out to buy one. But I imagine this is going to be a tremendously popular lens.
-
@Django It sounds to me like you're really hung up on sensor size. When it comes to image quality alone, I'd choose the 16mm Digital Bolex over the Fuji any day of the week. And many would choose the Blackmagic Pocket over your Fuji X-T2.
-
@Django It's not only YouTubers who choose to shoot with the GH5. For what it's worth, Francis Ford Coppola and majority chose the lowly GH2 over the Sony F65, Red Epic, Canon C300 and Arri Alexa in the Zacuto Revenge Shootout 2012 - a measly micro four thirds sensor camera!
-
If you have another look, I edited my post. But it still holds. In spite of what you consider to be the shortcomings of the incredible GH5, it is miles ahead of the X-T2 for video. And most filmmakers feel the same way. Panasonic is no less reliable than Fuji by the way. Blinking lights are no substitute for zebras. And Panasonic's G85 and GH5 need no handgrip to improve handling. And if you re-read my post, you'll see that it is facts - the features, the number of people who prefer Panasonic, it's all there Not everyone needs anamorphic? Not everyone needs IBIS. Not everyone needs tilting screens or 4K apps. Not everyone needs a touch screen. Hardly reasons to rejoice. Hardly a ringing endorsement.
-
@Mattias Burling I don't think I forgot to add anything. Oh, wait, I did! The anamorphic thread alone has over 16,000 posts and over 51,000 views for advice on eBay listings alone. The threads speculating on the soon-to-be released Panasonic GHs have attracted nearly 40,000 views. The Panasonic GH5 thread is approaching 1/3 million views. Apparently, interest in Panasonic is greater than in Fuji for video. So, I think it's safe to say that Panasonic makes more videocentric cameras than Fuji.
-
You don't agree with me, everyone's entitled to their opinion - but you don't give any reasons, aside from the fact that you hate the articulating screen, which most filmmakers seem to find extremely useful. Can you provide any other support for your statement? How about battery life? Touch screen? IBIS? Menus? 4K using the remote app? Oversized handgrip? ETC mode? Custom white balance settings or zebras in movie mode? Internal log profile? HDR? 10-bit? Full HDMI? ALL-Intra? Anamorphic mode? The G85 and GH5 kill the X-T2 for video.
