  1. Well, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get beautiful colors out of the GH5 as it is if you WB properly.
  2. That’s the million dollar question.
  3. Federal regulators are expected to vote to allow Internet providers to speed up service for some apps and websites — and block or slow down others — in a decision repealing landmark, Obama-era regulations for broadband companies such as AT&T and Verizon. - Washington Post, live on YT now. WTF
  4. I realize Luke said different filmmakers are testing out different features of the camera, but if this is a low light monster, I’m not seeing any shots taken in very dim lighting. Even so, it’s got to have more than just a 12MP sensor...
  5. A lot smaller - and a lot cheaper too! Since the Arri/Zeiss weighs around 6 pounds, I don’t think you’d normally want to use that thing without rails and a lens support.
  6. Again, the G9 has a 10-minute recording limit in 4K 60p. The GH5 does not.
  7. Firmware update Ver.2.2 now available. Function can be assigned to the Fn button of the interchangeable lens including H-ES200. Video recording stability in VFR (Variable Frame Rate) mode is improved.
  8. I wonder if the rumors of a Panasonic Leica 12-60mm f/2 lens are true.
  9. It must have something to do with anamorphic and how Luke's shoulders aren't sore after shooting for hours on end.
  10. @mercer For sure, I could pare down the gear a bit. I used an easyrig on my last shoot because I shake a lot, and even IBIS isn't enough to iron out the wiggles. The easyrig helps quite a bit, doesn't weigh much and takes up very little space. It also requires less setup time than a tripod - buckle the vest, attach the clamp to the cage, and I'm ready to go. I need the monitor, which means a cage, not only because 5% of the time, the camera's focusing on the background, but because I shoot at wide apertures, it's often focusing on a lock of hair, an earring or something other than the subject's eyes. Or, it's focusing on the far eye, when what I want to focus on is the near one. I'm also trying to get used to using cinema lenses, the matte box, follow focus and easyrig so I can learn to do things like nice focus pulls. So yeah, some of the stuff isn't absolutely necessary for what I'm shooting today, but I'm learning skills that will come in handy in the future, either for my own short films, or for commercial shoots after I've built up my portfolio. Because I won't be able to afford doing this as a hobby for much longer. Of all the things that I've purchased over the years though, I'd say it is the least expensive piece of kit that has made the greatest difference - a $9.00 reflector!
  11. @Marc Ramirez First, let’s take cost: the GH5 has been out a while now and discounts and bundles, like extra batteries and free V-Log, have been around for some time. So I don’t see a $200-$300 price savings (= 1 SD card!) as a compelling case but apparently many here don’t feel the same way. Then, there is little doubt that when it comes to video, the G9 is outclassed by the GH5. You seem to only be concerned with 60p, but many of us shoot 24p, and 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording up to 400Mbps is only possible with the GH5. Filmmakers who want the most flexibilty in post will gravitate towards the camera with a log profile, which excludes the G9. Shooters interested in 6K anamorphic mode at 24fps and HDR will likewise take a pass. Dozens of other video- oriented settings are also likely missing from the G9. And whether you plan on shooting for HDR delivery or not, HLG 10-bit takes the most advantage of what the sensor is capable of, with at least a full stop increase in dynamic range over the linear photo styles, resulting in smoother tonal transitions. You don’t have to pixel peep to see this either. Just have a look at @jase‘s wonderful comparison: transitions that are coarse and splotchy in Cinelike are much smoother in HLG. USB charging and a few other small features do not compensate for the loss of dozens of video-oriented features, if you are primarily a video shooter. If on the other hand, you shoot mostly stills, and want a micro four thirds camera ?, the G9 is for you.
  12. It sounds to me like Jase’s don’t match and is looking for advice. If Jase is shooting Cinelike D and reduces saturation by -3, there shouldn’t be a problem with clipping. The codec is robust enough to handle matching shots with and without a filter. It is quite easy to see the tint on shots where a filter has been used.
  13. In Final Cut Pro, you can use the color match feature, then adjust the sliders a little bit to get a very close match. Maybe some will frown on that though.
  14. I really want to find some neat dilapidated buildings to shoot in, there must be thousands here, but I haven't been able to find anyone who can show me any. I don't ride a motorbike, so that's a handicap in Vietnam, too.
  15. @anonim Thanks anonim, but those are just iPhone shots I did while scouting locations.
  16. After being charged $50.00 to shoot at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, being denied entrance to the Saigon Zoo and being chased off the grass at Tao Dan park, I thought it might be about time to look for some locations that were a little less hostile to photographers. So this afternoon, we set off in search of some cool alleyways around town. We’re gonna return on Tuesday to do some shooting. Have you ever been prevented from shooting in a location? How do you scout for locations?

@cindy6 It is a touch difficult to follow when you begin by talking about a 16mm m4/3 lens, then a 30mm lens, then a 35mm full frame lens, then APSC. Comparing so many different focal lengths with different sensor coverage hurts my poor brain. Perspective is a function of focal length; it does not change according to the manufacturer. The $900.00 fully manual Voigtlander 17.5mm is an excellent lens. The 10.5mm is a poor construction. The Nokton 17.5mm will be good for certain applications, while the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN will be better for others. I covered this in my review. I would be delighted if Fuji decided to produce lenses for m4/3, but I think that's a pipe dream.

I only use one ND filter - Hoya Pro 1 ND8.

Actually, you can have it all (minus mf)! The Sigma 16mm is easily one of the best lenses in the micro four thirds lineup and is ridiculously inexpensive. There's little to moan about a fast, wide, incredibly sharp lens that costs under $450.
  20. The Voigtlander is a miserable lens. According to lenstip, it has huge vignetting, monstrous coma, high astigmatism, visible spherical aberration, significant field curvature, ugly out of focus areas, a field of view over two degrees narrower than stated in the specifications and a weak quality/price ratio.
  21. @kaylee Internet service providers will be able to create fast lanes and slow lanes. They can't do that now under regulations that were passed under Obama. Service providers like Netflix could be charged more if they want customers to have fast access to their platform if current laws are repealed. It's the huge conglomerates that are in favor of destroying net neutrality. Independent media will suffer. Small content creators will be hurt. You and I will be paying more. It's an enormous handout to the rich and the people who control the big corporations.
  22. Don't worry, now that Trump's just about killed net neutrality, we'll all end up paying extra for streaming video.
23. When the Internet is working properly here, I’m pretty satisfied with how my videos look online. But since I don’t use Vimeo, I think I’m going to be offering downloadable versions of all my videos, like I did recently. It seems to have gotten a pretty good response. I’ll probably use either We Tranfer or Drop Box, but there are loads of free file sharing options for those who really care about quality.
  24. There's the Laowa 7.5mm f/2. With ETC enabled on the GH5, that comes out to 21mm FF equivalent.
