  1. @moxlyo haha. Sorry, about that! Incredible just the same. :=) Someone else is going to ask anyway, so I might as well be the first - what lenses did you use? There's some awesome bokeh going on in some of those shots. I particularly like the brief shot where we see the actress's back as she's ascending the escalator.
  2. @moxlyo Truly sensational work, Sylvia.

Sign up for free at ShareGrid and view video comparisons between over 40 different anamorphic lenses, vintage and modern, comparing contrast, flare, distortion, bokeh etc. They've tested vintage spherical lenses as well. The Atlas Orion is getting more and more tempting.

Yes, @Jonesy Jones, the Oly’s actually going to be 17mm.. I must be the only one here who finds manual clutches annoying, because I’m always forgetting about them and wondering why my AF isn’t working when I hit tap to focus. =) I haven’t used it enough to comment on it, but nothing can replace a MF lens. The GH5 has a 2X crop, just ignore what the LCD screen says. hehe

@Fredrik Lyhne I actually thought about making my first BTS during the shoot, but it would've been too ambitious, as you've already guessed. =)
  6. So you've already consented to shrinking the LCD display and dropping resolution 55%; reducing battery life; cutting back on video resolution; and eliminating 400Mbps: but even if I shot 50% photo/50% video, the one thing I could never ever live without is HLG - the most overlooked and single most significant update the GH5 has received.
  7. @mercer You hit the nail on the head. For the insane number of videos I've shot in the post office, for example, I've shot with practically all my Veydras and a bunch of other lenses handheld with the Panasonics. I couldn't have done that with the Fuji - or just with my two f/2 lenses on a gimbal. That Acros video I made - it was all shot on a gimbal, and practically every clip had to be stabilized in post as well. Probably something I was doing wrong. The lack of zebras makes it difficult for me to gauge exposure. Of course, if I used an external monitor, that'd help some. And for vlogging, a flip screen and a functioning remote app come in handy. I really don't want to rehash all the things I don't care for. The X-T2 should be great for narrative work: I've acknowledged as much in the past.
  8. Well, yes and no. Obviously whatever issues there are aren't keeping people like @Thomas Hill from telling great stories. I'd like to shoot with the X-T2 again someday.

@Cinegain I've got one of those tall rectangular ones; it still folds up into a small sleeve similar to the one the woman's holding: but for the life of me, once I take it out, I can't fold it up again! I've tried it a hundred times and I've even watched tutorials. =) I've snapped one in half already. I was going to wait till I meet my buddy on Saturday and have him put it away for me. Hopeless! Edit: To those wondering whether I'll be reviewing the Olympus 17.5mm f/1.2 - no way am I going to spend $1,200.00 on a fourth medium wide angle. :=)
  11. Panasonic continually innovates because that's what companies do; to assert that they do so not to satisfy the needs of the professional, but above all else to hawk their wares to pixel peepers and to those convinced it's their camera that's holding them back from greatness is a bit of an exaggeration. In any case, I don't see why they can't have it both ways.

Incidentally, manually focusing with the Sigma is futile.

@Fredrik Lyhne Some of my favorite videos online have been shot with Cinelike D. I’ve thought of doing a comparison with the Veydra 16mm, one of the sharpest of the Veydras from my brief test. Of course, that would mean bringing out the old tripod and the whole rig.... Today was actually my very first time taking out the iFootage tripod in forever - so heavy! My student (the model) brought along her girlfriend, so she was responsible for playing music on her phone ?and intermittently holding the reflector, which she’d never done before - and neither had I! So a lot of the shots turned out crazy looking. Because they assumed I was a professional photographer, I was practically turned away from two places in one day (the museum was asking $50.00, the zoo refused to let me enter with.... a reflector!) Maybe they thought it would frighten the animals. ? Aside from having to plan out our itinerary a little better next time, there’s also the problem of finding people willing to work for peanuts. =) I was able to mount the G85 and Sigma on the original Crane, so I’d like to shoot some stuff with that combination next.

Thanks, @Fredrik Lyhne. I bracketed the exposures, threw them on the timeline, added a LUT and just skimmed until I found two frames that looked okay without a whole lot of grading. HLG and the Leeming LUT do definitely work best together with ETTR.
  15. I can't agree with @Dunjoye either, but he's entitled to his opinion. The GH5 is a professional camera with great ergonomics and lovely image quality all at a reasonable price.

This afternoon, I returned to the Ho Chi Minh City Museum to do some more shooting, and they wanted to charge me $50.00, so we hopped into a taxi and drove to the zoo, but they wouldn't let us in with my all my gear.So we ended up shooting just outside the entrance. Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN, 400Mbps ALL-Intra, HLG, ISO 400. Just a super quick color correction.
  17. How can it be both V-Log and RAW at once? just asking... But yeah, I like where you're going with this...
  18. Firmware update November 30 brings faster AF-C (double the speed), highlight overexposure blinkies, RGB histogram and other goodies. source
  19. Like Matthew Scott, I’ve never needed more than 10 stops anyhow. Anything more is just a bonus.
  20. Sensor size is only one part of the equation. Read noise is another, which can have a greater influence on dynamic range than sensor size. I don’t know what the theoretical limit is, but if the GH5 is already capable of 12 stops of DR, I see no reason why we can’t get more, unless all scientific research comes to a screeching halt. BTW, the GH2 had 7-8 stops of DR.
