I’ve used ETC a ton with many lenses, including the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN in a comparison (ETC mode on/off) in my very first review as well as a couple of shots in my in-depth look, and can assure you that it does not reduce contrast. I was shooting in available light, so it’s possible that the light changed, or perhaps I did something dumb in post.
  2. I heard from a source close to Panasonic who wishes to remain anonymous that the red button actually gives us a wider aspect ratio, blue streaks, flare, and oval bokeh.
  3. The Adata, which sells for $290.00, while having double the capacity of the Angelbird, costs just 45% more, so not bad - and if you’re recording to both cards simultaneously, those extra GB could come in very handy.
  4. You could always buy this cute little Leica keychain which screams luxury for only $60.
  5. When I was in Singapore last month, I purchased an Angelbird 128GB v90 SD card for $250.00. It wasn’t until after flying home that I discovered the card couldn’t keep up when shooting 400Mbps. I emailed Angelbird and they responded promptly, asking me to return the card to them. Two weeks later, I received a replacement, which works just fine. While Panasonic is selling their card for a whopping $500 at B&H, the Angelbird has been marked down to $200.00, which also happens to be $50 less expensive than even the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC Memory Card, which is not v90, if such things matter to you.
  6. @mercer Meanwhile, B&H is on backorder... ?
  7. I’m leaning toward your proposition - like maybe a bottle of red touch up paint. ?

@PannySVHS Thanks again. Sorry, no PL 15, but I’m sure there’ll be lots of comparisons coming soon.

When people say the wide Sigmas don't have as much pop as Leicas, I say it's because the Leicas have greater depth bcs they're wider. When people say telephoto Sigmas don't have as much pop as Leicas, I say it's because longer lenses have creamier bokeh. ;=)

    I might've gotten a defective lens.

It is that simple - even Shane says the wider angle lens makes the background look farther away, ie, more depth. geez... Edit: That's why, when I posed my student, I often shot at an angle - I like depth as much as you do!

Those are 20mm lenses and? Sorry, I'm not following. So funny, he says the 20mm makes her look skinnier, but that's because she's got her arms behind her back! :=)

@anonim Flattening or compression is not the fault of the lens, it is related to focal length. This from SLR Lounge, the authority on all things photographic. =) As you shoot with a longer and longer focal length lens we are required to step back in distance in order to keep our subject the same relative size in the frame. This change in distance to the subject, is what actually gives rise to the “distortion” phenomenon. Why? Well, when you are shooting on a wide angle lens, we have to be close to our subject to keep the subject large in frame. As we step back on a longer focal length lens, the distance to from the camera to our subject changes, but the distance from the subject to the background doesn’t. With each step up in a longer focal length, our distance from the lens to the subject becomes proportionally larger than the distance from the subject to the background. This creates a sort of “flattening” effect, where not only do the background objects appear larger, but it also appear closer to the subject. Source

@Digitaliant I don't know about distortion, but the Leica's considerably more contrasty than the Sigma, and they render color differently. They're both incredible lenses. If you've already got the Leica and a GH5, you could always use ETC mode to get the equivalent focal length - but you'd be sacrificing the pleasing bokeh of its older brother. =) The Leica is also all-metal construction, it's got an aperture ring, it's more compact, and I believe it's some 4 oz. lighter than the ginormous Sigma. Then again, it's around $800 more expensive than the Sigma...

    @PannySVHS Sorry, I don’t keep track of aperture settings. I’ve got both the Leica Summilux 12mm f/1.4 & the Veydra 16mm T2.2.

@PannySVHS That’s correct, it’s rec 709. I should be getting the Inferno in around two weeks if all goes well, can’t wait to try out rec 2020. Just to clarify, Leeming LUT was applied to the sample footage, but no color correction was done in post.
  17. hmmm... emoticons....must be some newly improved face detection.

@Digitaliant Thanks! If I ever do a comparison between the Leica and the Sigma, it would probably be with the Leica + ETC, which would give an effective focal length of 33.5mm cf. to the Sigma's 32mm. My biggest regrets are (1) not having brought along a tripod, since I shake like the devil, and (2) not using the camera with a cage and monitor. With AF, it's virtually impossible to know exactly what the camera is focusing on - a highlight in the glasses or hair? the near eye or the far? or on a reflection or light source in the distance? The only way to be certain is to use an external monitor and focus manually. Unless the subject is wearing glasses, I prefer to focus on the pores of their skin. When using my BMD Video Assist, I adjust focus until I see the skin 'blush' red, at which point, I know the face will be sharp. Another regret is not having used a reflector.... and I could go on and on.

all this badmouthing Sigma's making me hesitate to post my in-depth review of the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN
  20. If we consider ***** **** a mere distraction - just as clinging to our sordid earthly ways prevents us from attaining true enlightenment - the title of Mr. Neumann’s short, The Middle Path, refers unmistakably to the Noble Eightfold Path, a series of Buddhist practices and mindsets that will lead one to the liberation from samsara. And therein lies the key - eightfold - on which Panasonic is pinning its hopes to free the unwashed masses. Hence 8K, which, downsampled, will reduce to nought the noise and artifacts which for so long have clouded our perception and hindered our spiritual growth.
  21. Don’t worry, it’s not going to be a s35 sensor. The announcement of the Leica DG Elmarit 200mm f/2.8 bundled with a 1.4x teleconverter for $3,000 makes it abundantly clear they’re firmly committed to the micro four thirds sensor for mirrorless. Maybe 8K video? That’s already on their roadmap...
  22. If you examine Mr. Neumann’s video carefully, you’ll notice that the color orange and the American flag figure prominently, so I’m wagering it’s some kind of surveillance camera.
  23. Panasonic’s organic sensor is supposed to enable global shutter, have a wide dynamic range and extend sensitivity from the visible light spectrum to near infrared (NIR). @Kisaha Panasonic announced they’re doing away with tripod mounts. ?
  24. Camera shake is what degrades image quality.
