Not unless a firmware update is what's perched on a tripod and hidden behind the parental advisory in Luke's Super Secret Project. :=) Also, I can’t recall a firmware update going by the words ***** ****. Finally, Pansonic published their firmware update schedule long ahead of the release of the GH5, so I it’s hard to see why they’d be keeping another one under wraps.

I've often wondered myself whether IBIS really diminished image quality. For today's shoot, I seriously weighed the pros and cons of bringing along a a MeFoto Road Trip; and ultimately, I just took the camera, some spare batteries and an ND filter. I wasn't sure whether or not tripods were allowed at the museum I was shooting at. But in the back of my mind, I thought for sure that I could have obtained crisper images had I been using sticks. Anyhow, I'm fairly certain that Panasonic wouldn't risk alienating a customer base that's averse to even carrying along a Rode VideoMic Go, let alone a tripod. It must be remembered that IBIS can always be turned off. I can't really think of any cons of having IBIS as an option; as a matter of fact, IBIS is the reason I completely abandoned my GH4 for the G85. Pixel shift technology has been shown to improve resolution; why couldn't IBIS perform miracles as well? @Cinegain How are you so certain IBIS degrades image quality?

@Neumann Films You've already broken two taboos - serious filmmakers only use cinema cameras, not crop sensor cameras; and nobody in their right mind would pair a $35,000 lens with a $2,000 camera body. You are my inspiration!

Coming shortly - more Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN sample footage. All screen shots HLG, SOOC. (click on images to enlarge)

That may be, but anyone purchasing lenses solely for their present camera body is seriously shortsighted. Filmmakers who shoot with crop sensor cameras frequently move up to cinema cameras (and vice versa!) ? And nobody’s claiming the Veydras have the same optical quality as some of the PanLeicas - but they’re plenty good enough, as I believe has been amply demonstrated - and we’re comparing apples to oranges here, since the Leicas aren’t cinema lenses, and can’t be used with Fuji X-mount, C-mount or Sony E-mount either, for that matter. Rather than dreaming the impossible, which is a set of PL anamorphics for under $1,000, I’ll keep my expectations low - such as a set of geared manual lenses suitable for video intstead of useless fly by wire. I also look forward to hearing your impressions of the Orions.

First of all, not only do third-party manufacturers at times offer lenses that are not only better or equal to what the huge conglomerates sell, they often make lenses with unique parameters that the larger companies won't risk making. Panasonic and Olympus produce virtually the same lenses. The Veydras are extremely economical - what, $995 for a cine lens? - name one other company, big or small, willing to gamble on a complete set of bargain basement cinema primes for micro four thirds? Sigma continues to reap praise for lenses that often best the conglomerates at a much lower cost. SLR Magic, not known for being especially greedy, charges $18,700 for a set of 1.33x Anamorphot-CINE Lenses. A newcomer, Atlas, will be selling individual anamorphic lenses for $7,995 - 1/4 the cost most of its competitors. So, it goes without saying that the big camera companies are unable to justify passing along savings to the consumer to their bean counters, even when their lenses are produced in Thailand, Vietnam and China. Even the cost of vintage anamorphic lenses is prohibitive for most, which is why they are adapting projector lenses. A used anamorphic lens, taking lens and single-focus solution can easily run upwards of $1,500+. So anyone who thinks PL is going to be giving away anamorphic lenses is sorely mistaken. Unfailingly, PL lenses cost double, not half.

I've got a shoot in the morning with one of my students, so I just might have to take the Sigma for another spin. Hope she's clean shaven! =) Can't imagine the USD 1,200 Olympus 17mm f/1.2 holding a candle to this one in terms of sharpness, but I guess we'll see. Thing is, if you'd like to fly this bad boy on a gimbal, you might as well forget it, unless you want to shell out some dough for the Crane 2. So I'd advise anyone who even thinks they might like to do some gimbal work to stick with the PL 15.

There's a used Dell 27-Inch Monitor (U2718Q), the only Ultra HD Premium reference monitor, for just $410.00 over at Amazon. Not a Black Friday deal, but a bargain if you're looking to grade HDR. just sayin'

Thoughts on the bokeh vs. the Sigma 30mm? Sharpness compared to its predecessor? BTW, all you had to do was just look at the lens hood on the 30mm and it would fall off. The new one for the 16mm has been completely redesigned.
-
I only had a chance to shoot with the Sigma for a little over a day, but it's definitely a worthy successor to the 30mm f/1.4 DC DN, if not even sharper. It reminds me of nothing less than the Leica Summilux 12mm f/1.4, my favorite vlogging lens for the longest time - until the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 unseated it. Anyhow, apologies for the hastily put together video, I wanted to share it as quickly as I could. Incidentally, the good folks at Sigma must have been listening when I derided their 30mm for being so puny, so they rewarded us with a gargantuan lens that's too heavy to fly on my Zhiyun Crane. hehe I'm orange as a pumpkin in honor of Thanksgiving. =)

A Rectilux alone runs around $1,000. PanLeica's new telephoto, $3,000. Sorry, anonim.
-
??? Veydra tried, I think it was going to run over $5,000, so they abandoned the idea, and they’re for budget filmmakers.
-
@JordanWright Have you got any idea how much a PanLeica anamorphic would cost?
-
Yeah, that’s Fredrik Lyhne. My review (or whatever you want to call it) will be live shortly. World exclusive. ? Until around Dec. 1st I imagine.

I think of all the presets, cloudy is the most useful. It could be my eyes, the deeper depth of field, or just the excitement of owning a new lens, but if anything, the 16mm looks even sharper. I haven’t really had it long enough to know for sure. The two lenses complement one another perfectly.
-
Thanks! It's HLG, Sharpening -5, NR -5. I'd been using the X-Rite Colorchecker for all my white balancing, but I've found that under certain conditions, like tungsten light or outdoors at night, I can't rely on it, so lately, I've just been using the Cloudy preset on the Lumix. The shot was at least one shot underexposed. I also applied Nick Driftwood's LUT (free!) and added a tiny touch of color correction. The lens is pretty gargantuan - virtually impossible to use with the GH5 on the original Zhiyun Crane. Here's a photo of the Sigma 16mm in all it's oversized glory.
-
I know you'll be screaming 'heresy!', but examining the shots I've taken so far with the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 Contemporary, it's practically a longer focal length PanLeica Summilux 12mm f/1.4 twin.

Not sure whether this is just a Black Friday deal or not, but it’s come to my attention that the 7” Ninja Flame, pretty much an Inferno without 4K 60p capability, has been marked down to just $595, a huge savings over the Inferno and putting it up against the Focus.
-
I actually paid less for my GH5 than for the GH4, which ran me $2,000 without spare battery and V-Log - but that was long before shops here recognized that, while certainly small, there is a market for MFT in Vietnam. In any case, I’m pretty sure you’ll agree that cameras like the G80, GX85 (and yes, the GH5!) are among the best values in hybrid today (as do many in the community, if the number of posts in their respective threads is any indication), and arguing that Panasonic cameras are overpriced requires a stretch of the imagination.
-
The whole point of the video is you’ve got to get the mic off camera. Even an inexpensive mic will outperform the GH5 as long as it’s close to the subject. The in-camera noise cancelling is to eliminate noise from the IBIS. The GH4 audio was not without its own problems. But if you can only carry a couple SD cards, whatever. It’s your show.
-
They’re on fire. ?
-
@Vesku You’re able to fit the GH5 in your pocket? Incredible.
-
@IronFilm LEDs rule, and they're awesome in bright light as well, provided they’re powerful enough.
-
I can tell you that the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN for micro four thirds is silly sharp. Wide open, bohek is what you'd expect if you already own the 30mm, though of course, it's not going to be as pronounced. I was hoping to put a review up this evening before anyone else, but I think I might need some shuteye. Plus, I didn't get enough sample footage this evening. Maybe tomorrow... Below is a screen grab, wide open (view full size). Lumix GH5, HLG, ISO 800
