good HD for less than $3,000? I only paid $700 for my G85. But yes, even a well-shot SD showreel is superior to a mediocre 4K one.

Just how many of us are producing content for television anyhow? And among those who do watch SD or HD televised shows on a 40" or smaller screen, how many wouldn't prefer the experience of viewing UHD content on a 65 inch HDR screen? Just because a billion viewers around the world are watching cat videos on their 5 inch smartphones each day, does that mean we should be shooting in 720p? Most people listen to music on their cellphones too - does that mean it wouldn't sound better on a pair of Magnepans? Simply because most people around the world shoot pictures with their smartphones rather than cameras, does that mean we should too? And which mirrorless cameras shoot HD video that is superior to UHD? Sony? Olympus? Panasonic? Fuji? None of them, to the best of my knowledge. 1080p isn't even 1080p, and 4K isn't 4K. It's been shown time and again that 4K downsampled to 1080p is crisper than shooting at 1080p. If you're capturing for web delivery, 4K offers better image quality than 1080p. Just a few years ago, my 1080p videos shot with the GH3 were plagued with aliasing and moire. Shooting 4K with my Fuji or Lumix G85, it's barely if ever even noticeable. If I capture in 4K, I can still deliver in HD. Or downscale and record with a SmallHD, Atomos, Video Devices or BMD recorder at 4:2:2 or whatever.

Seems to me we just had a twenty page discussion about 4K... and there've already been numerous others in these forums as well... they're all starting to resemble each other... I was talking with a young woman from the countryside who's lived in Saigon for three years now... she's not been to a movie theater once in her life... watches movies on her iPhone 6... has no interest in going to the cinema... time for my first coffee of the day.

Back then, I didn't even know what a white balance card was, I just eyeballed the Kelvin. And I don't believe I ever touched the files in post either, maybe a couple of my more recent videos. I should give it a whirl again one of these days. i wonder if I were buying Fuji for the first time today whether I'd get the X-T20 instead... @Tim Sewell I'm not sure if it's been answered already, but you asked about focusing aids during recording. I don't think you can magnify the image while recording, but the focus peaking works a treat, at least it did for me. Also, I plan on shooting some F-log in ProRes 1080p, but you'll probably have done some jobs with your Fuji by then.

@mercer If I were shooting out in the country, a monopod would be enough for sure. I used to shoot almost exclusively on Book Street, and I still often shoot there. On weekends, it can be crazy busy. Kids running around unattended, clutzy people or people who just don't give a damn. I was afraid my whole setup would go crashing to the ground. If someone ran into the Wild Bull, they'd get a nice welt!

Those were the good old days, when I used to lug around an iFootage Wild Bull T7 carbon fiber tripod and Benro Video Head (13.4 pounds) in the 90 degree heat. I love me some IBIS.

I've been meaning to try out the X-T2 with my new rig, as well as F-log, now that I've got a recorder.
-
Here's a video shot with the X-T2.

I was referring to @meanwhile calling the writer of the article over at PetaPixel an idiot.
-
@meanwhile Rather than calling everyone whose opinion you don't agree with stupid, it would be better etiquette and more fruitful to just discuss their ideas. The article written for or by Petapixel may be flawed, I don't know enough about the topic: but I have seen numerous articles written online about the 'worms' and waxy looking skin. And I already see this waxy looking complexion at base ISO. Check out any of my videos and you'll see that faces sometimes almost look photoshopped.
-
@meanwhile I have a simpler solution.

I think it's best to read the entire review to see things in context. I don't appreciate what you just did.
-
$99/year? I'll try to focus more carefully... ?
-
@Tim Sewell You can see my review of the X-T2 here.

@Anaconda_ Sorry, i don't have two files to compare at the moment, but here's a ProRes clip straight out of the BMD Video Assist. Edit: until I get my 5K iMac later this month, I really can't make any comparisons between 1080p and 4K.
-
A 5" 4K monitor/recorder will most certainly come out: but only just after you've purchased the HD model. ? I don't own the GX80 or Atomos, but the 1080p ProRes files shot with my G85/BMD Video Assist are lovely and a breeze to edit.

I don't do paid client work, but my advice would be to avoid Fuji. I love Fuji color too, but there's a whole lot more to a camera than just the sensor.

seems to me I've seen this somewhere before...

So true, Fritz! I think I even PM'ed you once about how I regretted the lack of a pin for DSLR style cameras like you find for camcorders to keep the camera from twisting. No matter how well I fasten the camera with a quick release, there will always be a little wiggle, however slight. Ditto for the magic arm or friction arm holding the monitor to the cage. I'm always having to reposition it. Then as you say, there's the follow focus, which can make everything go out of wack. Best to have a matte box that locks onto the lens so there are a couple points of contact, preventing the camera from moving while pulling focus. The cold shoe mounts on the camera and cage can also be a risky way to affix lights and microphones: a while back, though I always secured my Saramonic mixer to my G85 as best as I could, one day the unit went crashing to the ground, along with two Rodelink receivers. Then there's the handle that comes with my cage - no matter how well I tighten it, there's always some play, which drives me bonkers. And I already mentioned how I'd never trust a piece of junk like the Gorillapod for supporting my camera, let alone a GH5.
-
I have seen nice footage from the GH5; I'd dig a great EVF and 4K 60p; I'm a nerd too, and I'd also like stuff like waveform monitors; and no extra crop in 4K is big; so are dual card slots. But at this point, my current camera isn't what's holding me back from walking the red carpet.
-
I've owned two gorillapods, one smaller, one larger, and the legs gave out on both after an extremely short time using them. I wouldn't trust putting anything worth over $25 on one of those ever again. The gadget @BTM_Pix showed off might be a safer alternative.

Then stick with what you've got. ?

@PannySVHS I tried to keep my arms close to my body and turn from the waist like @mercer suggested, but I must say, I shake like a leaf, it runs in the family I guess. That's one reason why I used to shoot so much slo-mo. It's also the reason I'm seriously considering buying yet a third slider, because without a motor, my shots all need warp stabilizer. Even if I could buy a motion control unit for my iFootage here, it would run over $1,000, whereas there are relatively inexpensive motorized sliders selling here for much less than that, and even the Shark Slider Mini package costs less I believe.. So the test turned out a little better than I thought it would, TBH. As far as the Nocticron goes, it's a strange story. I just walked into the camera shop one day, when like magic, the salesman approaches me and asks if I'd like to buy the Leica for USD 1,200. If I hadn't gotten that lens, I wouldn't have hesitated to pay $350 for the Panasonic 42.5 f/1.7, which apparently is an outstanding lens.
