    Since there's a 1.1X crop in UHD on the GX85, you'd need a 9.5mm lens.

Is that mounted on an APS-C camera? If so, it's essentially the same FOV and DOF as your 15mm, isn't it?
  3. I don't own a Sony, and I've never shot Log, but most of the videos I enjoy online have muted palettes and low saturation, so I guess from an artistic standpoint, I'd choose log too if I had it. I don't care for fully saturated images most of the time, though of course, I've seen some great films with super saturated colors.
  4. Not this all over again! OP - have you even had a look at the dozens of videos in the GH5 threads? Locking this one.
  5. I'd almost be willing to concede that if the 6D Mark II shot beautiful 1080p.... pretty sure though that a headphone jack wouldn't eat into their profits... I don't recall seeing so many references to sales figures and profit margins in discussions of any other camera brand, wonder why? Anyhow, I've kind of lost interest in this topic myself, since after all, this camera is targeted to consumers as an upgrade to a smartphone, not to enthusiasts or professionals.
  6. The ratio for my own work is around 10:1. For my latest vlog, I shot something like 200 minutes and ended up with 16 minutes in all. But who's to say if someone else were editing, it might be better trimmed to 3 minutes!
  7. This is way off topic now, sorry guys, but I just tested my videomic pro on the g85, it works fine, so it's not the camera. I also tried both Rodelink transmitters and receivers and I think I narrowed the problem down to one of the lav mics. Still testing to be absolutely sure. If I could listen to the recorded clip on the app, that'd be a good half way measure.
  8. Yes, to be serious for a moment, I've got not issues with the keyboard that came with my 2013 iMac, but not for a second have I ever said to myself, ' geez, this has got to be the best keyboard ever made in the history of mankind' or anything like that. I'm happy with it.
  9. I knew you would have a solution for that too. I probably won't be able to find what I need in Vietnam, but if it's under $50 or so, customs here shouldn't be able to rip me off too much. Not sure what happened, but my friend has some bluetooth device for listening to her phone on a speaker, so there might have been some interference. BTW, this isn't the first time not being able to monitor the audio has caused me headaches. I recorded a pretty long vlog, no way did I want to redo it, and when I listened to the audio during the edit, I realized there was a hum from the air conditioner, which I'd forgotten to turn off. So I'd strongly recommend monitoring audio. And yes, it's kind of chintzy of manufacturers to omit something that probably costs just a few pennies. If they sold a monitor that wasn't shiite here in VN that accepted 4K out, 5", 1280X720p, with a waveform scope, false color and a headphone jack, I'd use that, since I really can't use the crappy focus peaking on my G85 when shooting with my Voigtlander. I might take another trip abroad just to buy something like that.
  10. The level meters looked fine before I began recording. Since I vlog, I don't wear headphones while recording, but if I used a solution like the one BTM_Pix linked to, at least I could monitor the recording when I'm done and do it over if need be.
  11. I've ben using the older style keboad with my 2013 iMac, and I've never exprienced any discomfort or hitting wrong keys. I'n not a fab of the shallower keys they're using now, thougf, not just the clickint sound, but there's no travel. But some leople say they can type faster and just as acurately on the new keyboars. Maybe I'll buy one of the older one befor thei're out of stok for my nw iMac.
  12. @Andrew Reid Now you tell me, after spending $3,000 for a new iMac! Why didn't you write this article yesterday? So maybe I should hold onto my old keyboard when I sell my 2013 iMac. ? @Inazuma I won't defend Apple's decision to omit an SD card reader in their new rMBP and the touch bar is pretty useless to me at the moment, but I'm probably the only one who's grateful they shaved 1/2 pound off the weight. And I applaud Apple for pushing USB-C even if it may be inconvenient for a while. I do wish it had 32GB RAM, though. And aside from the annoying bezels that remain on the iMac, it's still a timeless looking machine. My old FD had something like 350 MBps write and 500+ MBps read speeds and a mere 2GB GPU, the new one's going to have read and write speeds hovering around 2GB/s and 8GB VRAM. I don't need nor can I justify paying $5,000 for the upcoming iMac Pro, but I think many professionals are going to love it.
  13. Someone here said I shouldn't use analogies to audio when discussing video, but recording sound by just looking at the level meters is a bit like shooting video while just looking at the histogram. You've been lucky so far, just like those who've never had an SD card fail on them. My G85 doesn't have a headphone jack either, but there've been a couple of occasions I wish it had, like when I noticed some crackling noises from the lav mic while editing that I didn't catch while recording on location.
  14. Still, whether you're shooting Panasonic, Olympus, Fuji, Nikon, Sony or whatever, if you shoot 4K and downsample to 1080p, the images will be sharper and have less moire and aliasing. All of of these cameras to the best of my knowledge have efficient codecs that don't require unreasonable amounts of storage space. I'm really only familiar with Panasonic. Aliasing and moire are the main reasons I went from the GH3 to the GH4 (as well as focus peaking). So yeah, if you're shooting jobs that require 12TB of RAID storage and so on, maybe 1080p is the way to go, but for the rest of us, provided you have a computer newer than 2011 and more than 1TB of storage, I'd still recommend shooting 4K. Even computers with less powerful systems can edit with proxies (equivalent to 1080p or something like that - not sure, since I've never needed proxies!) and almost any computer should be able to handle that AFAIK. Finally, how many cameras out there for under $2,000 can actually shoot beautiful looking 1080p without aliasing and moire? And is it superior to the same camera's 4K downsampled to 1080p? Ruben Latre is brilliant, I'd hire him in an instant if I had the dough. But would the showreel be any less powerful if it wasn't in mushy 540p? Because much of what passes for 1080p isn't really even 1080p. And another one at random, just because I love this guy's work so much.
  15. The audio on the G85 is fine. No clipping or distortion problems when I set levels to -12 for my voice, and even before, when I stupidly set levels to peak at 0, I seldom encountered noticeable distortion, or barely audible distortion anyhow. I've used the Rode VideoMic Pro, the RodeLink Filmmaker kit and the built-in microphone.
  16. @mercer Actually, it's around midnight here, and I thought it would be fun to transcribe the video. Seriously, I wasn't making any statement at all. I don't see any contradiction in what he said.
  17. @BTM_Pix Or at least a much larger grip than on the X-T2.
  18. @mercer Now you're using my trick. At 2 minutes and 40 sec., he says ta dee ta dum, at 3 minutes and 30 sec., he says tweedle dee... But the reason he says he'd shoot 4K for a deliverable in 2K is not the reason I expected to hear.
  19. At 2:40, he says if he wants a 2K image, he'll probably shoot at 4K. At 3:30, "what's the first thing any DP with a really sharp lens does is put a diffusion filter on."
  20. BTM_Pix will mail each of you the code in 5-6 weeks so you can have the true Panasonic V-Log experience.
  21. http://www.fujirumors.com/ibis-coming-future-fujifilm-x-cameras-trusted-source/#disqus_thread Ken Wheeler seems to think the body will be similar to the X-T2, that there will be an extra crop (it's already 1.71X in 4K), that the camera will retail for around $2,400.00, and that Fuji will announce it later this year or early 2018.
  22. Some extraordinary shots in the link you shared, Ari. But I'm primarily interested in the video capabilities of the 6D II, as this is after all a website dedicated to filmmaking. Every week, I see dozens of young people and professionals shooting video with their Canon cameras, often with an operator holding a microphone for interviews. So evidently, there is an interest in the video capabilities of the camera. Panasonic saw the consumer interest in video, what, six or seven years ago, and ran with it: consulting with professionals in the industry, continually innovating and adding features those in the online community were clamoring for. Their products were reliable; they didn't overheat; files didn't require exorbitant amounts of storage space and most of all, they were reasonably priced. We didn't see them intentionally crippling cameras to protect their flagship models, apart from some small annoyances, like the occasional lack of a headphone jack. When they created something new, whether it was 4K Photo, focus peaking, highlight/shadow curves or IBIS, they generally equipped all of their mid- to high end cameras with those features. They even added anamorphic, a feature that in no way could be considered essential to the majority of buyers. They partnered with the legendary German lens maker Leica to produce optics that rival those of any system. Metabones, Voigtlander, Zacuto, Blackmagic, Veydra, SLR Magic, DJI and dozens of other companies followed suit, by which I mean, that not only did Panasonic encourage innovation, they also created jobs. Now, let's take a look at Canon, the number one or number three patent holder in the world, the largest seller of cameras... The 5D created a stir in the filmmaking community around seven or eight years ago, so what did Canon do? Did they add even more videocentric features to the 5D year after year; did that technology trickle down to their lower priced models; were they encouraged like Panasonic was when their cameras were hacked by Vitaly and others to offer higher bit rates? Or did they react by creating a new lineup of cinema cameras out of reach for the average consumer and continue to produce cameras whose 1080p looks like 720p mush?
