Is this the official ES thread or what? Can we move on? Thanks.

You're too busy to watch the video? whatever
-
I think I have a sense of humor, but I don't find it funny, and the test is pure, unadulterated trash.
-
What garbage! Why ever did you link to that crap?

Most of my experiences with BH have been good, but I don't order much from abroad anymore because VN customs is like the mafia. If I can't find what I need, I fly to Thailand, Malaysia or Hong Kong.
-
Still full price over at BH ?

Some shots were manually focused, others I used touch or tap to focus. Now, I'm pretty much using touch focus all the time, but I still check to make sure it's sharp in playback before moving on. I made the mistake of editing the video at night, so it did turn out way too dark, I'll be uploading a new one soon. BTW, I just got a RodeLink wireless mic, it works much better for me than the Rode VideoMic Pro. I'm also using a GorillaPod for vlogging outdoors, much simpler to work with, more versatile, and requires no balancing. ?

Vlogging with the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K

Actually, this is OT. I've shown numerous examples of my own work, I've shared detailed information for getting consistently good exposures while reducing noise and increasing DR, which is as applicable to the GH5 as it is to the G85.
-
I was testing out my new Rodelink today with the G85 and discovered that a Gorillapod is way more practical for vlogging than the Crane, so I just have to work on my biceps and I'll be ready for the GH5.

It's too big to fit in his Lamborghini. Tough life.

You don't want to lift exposure until there are no more pixels in the shadows. Here's an example of an image that has been slightly overexposed. In your EVF or LCD, the left end of the histogram should still be touching the farthest shadow area.
-
In the waveform monitor above, the highlights are just touching 100 IRE. This clip was shot at f/2 or f/2.8.
-
Hi Vesku, when we say ETTR, we're not talking about anything extreme; there should still be pixels in the deepest shadow areas.
-
Actually, I haven't done any scientific measurements or anything, but often exposing to the right could mean as little as 1/3 of a stop more exposure than I was used to giving, so we're definitely not talking about a stop more exposure or anything like that. An added advantage of exposing to the right, for me anyway, is that it also usually entails opening up the iris a little more, which means a bit shallower depth of field. But I've also read that the GH5 can handle a little underexposure and pushing in post, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over this or anything. Give it a try, see if you like the results; I have, and I like what I'm seeing: if it doesn't work for your workflow, that's cool too.

I'm not sure. I should add that I only realized this morning that the clip I uploaded last night is way too dark, I may edit it again and re upload in the near future.

Does focus racking work with your other non- Panasonic lenses?

I've got the new MBPr Touch Bar as well, but a card reader will result in faster offload times according to Orangenz. Have you tried it out yet? Not all USB-C connectors are 3.1, they can still have USB 2 speed. I read that somewhere anyhow. As far as image quality, I don't doubt the GH5 is superior, it's just that I've owned the G85 for months now and I'm still learning how to get the best quality out of it. ? I was just thinking that the G85 is smaller, so easier to carry around and fly on a single handed gimbal, and it's half the price, so I'm not paying for a lot of features I'll never use. But for sure 4K 60p and no extra crop are big advantages. I find even 12mm is not wide enough on the G85, on the GH5, it would be more than enough for my needs. I'm still going back and forth every day deciding whether to upgrade or not. ?

I have the camera set to manual, but there's still an AF icon on the LCD. It turns out to be AF-S. I only use it when I'm in front of the camera, when I'm behind I use the AF lock button. To ensure single point focus, go into the motion picture menu, AFS/AFF and select AFS.

If I don't cancel my preorder, could you stop by and set my camera up for me too?

On Fuji lenses, the inner tube where the rear element is seated is at least 1cm deep, the rear optical element doesn't move, there are no slits for dust to get in and the lenses are weather sealed. Where is the dust coming from? edit: according to Lens Rentals.com, all lenses have dust in them, and for the most part, unless there's an insect inside your lens, it's nothing to worry about.
-
You could be right Vesku; but if you're going after a moody scene in a narrative film, expose to the right, then bring mids and shadows down in post.
-
The G85 is probably a better camera for vlogging though you're probably spot-on about everything else.
-
Some tips for G85 users, but pretty certain they're applicable to the GH5 as well: expose to the right and reduce in camera sharpening for the widest dynamic range and least noise; use Cinelike D if you don't have V-Log L; do not use your in-camera microphone. I also test the tap to focus and find that it works quite well after all. Video may not have finished processing, I just uploaded it.
