  1. Far from being hypersensitive, but I would find it inappropriate for any reviewer to take out 1/2 a minute, a minute or however long while discussing a product to make a political, cultural or religious statement, whether I agreed with the sentiment or not. Just as I would find it equally bizarre during a sermon, for the pastor to start making camera gear recommendations. Which is probably why, to the best of my knowledge, all online reviewers abstain from voicing their social, political or religious affiliations. I would also think it extraordinarily unusual and not a little disturbing if a restaurant or movie critic, a book reviewer or a music critic inserted scripture in the middle of their writing, be it in a magazine, newspaper or journal. My own father converted to Catholicism when he remarried, and for the twenty or so years that I visited him, not once did he or my stepmother bring up the subject of religion or suggest I go to church - had they done so, yes, I would have felt very uncomfortable in their home. And I don't think that a customary greeting in South Auckland is synonymous with prozyletizing.
  2. I hardly ever use manual focus these days, but just out of curiosity, I just tried out the manual focus ring on my 50mm f/2 and it feels awesome - nicely dampened, very responsive. What I dislike more than not having stops are rings that are too loose. I'd encourage you to pick one up and try it for yourself. I'm not at home now, so I can't compare the 50mm to my other Fuji lenses. Edit: each lens is different. But you can always use manual focus Rokinons, or, like many here are doing, shoot with Nikkor lenses with an adapter. They are very compact as well.
  3. If there's plenty of room for improvement, I'm not seeing it. Really excellent work, Jase!
  4. Yet when I wrote virtually the same thing just days before the announcement... Anyway, the GH5 has exceeded my expectations, I've got one on order, should arrive by May at the latest. And from what I understand, though I'm still not sure if I'll use it, Paul Leeming says on his FB page that V-Log has two stops more dynamic range than Cinelike D, which wasn't the case for the GH4, at least as far as he could tell. And even with my G85, I'm able to shoot at much higher ISOs than with my GH4. So, m43 keeps marching along!
  5. Maybe so, but Apple Mac is hardly a niche product, with over 5 million units sold in the first quarter of 2017.
  6. I'm not asking you not to be yourself. What I'm questioning is why your content must be exclusionary.

    Lenses

I've got a complete field test of the Fuji 50mm f/2 lens coming shortly!
  8. "Thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men... "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret." - Matt. 6:5-6
  9. Nick has no idea what you're talking about either.
  10. So many options now with 4 K - zooms, simulated slider shots, and in post, the Ken Burns effect and even dolly zooms.
  11. @webrunner5 Thanks for pointing me in the direction of dvxuser man. @Inazuma Thanks for being my best critic. I went ahead and purchased the Leeming LUT today and shot a quick video out in my neighborhood. In usual Jon style, I just color balanced by eye. I did not expose to the right, but will definitely do so the next time. I'd been using all kinds of LUTs for several years, it was tons of work, the colors were never to my satisfaction, which is why for the past couple of months I'd been working at getting the best results I could from Standard profile. But it was still too contrasty and the colors were off. I did no grading at all on this video, just the third clip, I raised midtones by four in FCP. I dropped a LUT on it and sent it on its way to YouTube. So, this LUT accords well with my philosophy in life, which is to do as little as possible . Safari seems to be adding an orange cast to my skin which I swear is not there in the master file (except when I pass through the darker parts of the alley).
  12. If you go into the movie menu, you can choose between AFS/AFF. In AFF, the camera will decide which mode (continuous or single), if you select AFS, it will only be single point AF. But I actually use back button focusing - with the camera set to manual, I use the AF/AE lock to autofocus.
  13. But the reviewer says it's like watching an HD TV from two meters away.
  14. Not sure if anyone's experienced this, but the other day, my Crane would keep shutting off on me. The battery was fully charged, the blue light would blink four times, and after a minute or so, it would turn off. I tried loosening then re-tightening the handle, which worked for a bit, then the same problem. This morning, I discovered that the cap on the bottom of the handle was loose! Problem solved. ?
  15. You kind of lost me when you started reciting scripture. Then I started thinking how cool it would be if Max Yuryev and Detroit Borg quoted scripture before every product review. Not really.
  16. When I first saw this test (Max Yuryev's AF test), I thought it was pretty disappointing myself. After all, it would seem that for the simplest of scenarios - a subject moving slowly toward the camera, at a steady pace, with no erratic, unpredictable movement and no obstacles, that the camera's default settings in AF-C should be able to handle it without having to dive into the menu and spend hours customizing the settings. And I also believed this method of testing video AF-C was the best - it's the one most commonly used by photographers to test autofocus tracking, people walking directly toward the camera or riding a bicycle... for the reason that tracking a person or vehicle moving horizontally shouldn't be that demanding. Then I started to ask myself how often I would have a subject move from the back of the room directly toward the camera if I were doing the kind of narrative work I intend to do. And the answer came back, 'never'. For vlogging, I see many YouTubers using AF-C when AF-S would work much better. For example, if I'm at home sitting in front of my computer and talking to the camera, there really isn't any need for me to set the camera to autofocus continuous. Yet many YouTubers do just that. The same goes for vlogging out on the street Casey Neistat syle - If I'm holding the gimbal in my outstretched arm three feet from my face, AF-S works fine. Of course, I realize that for event shooters, wedding photographers and sports photographers, it can be a deal breaker, but if I were vlogging or shooting a budget film, I don't think it would be that critical. Or am I missing something?
  17. Was it because of hackers that Panasonic began adding more and more videocentric features to their GH line and even made one hacker an ambassador (Nick Driftwood is an amabassador, isn't he?), or would they have done so anyway? As popular as ML is, it seems crazy to me that Canon wouldn't work together with them to add RAW Video to their product line.
  18. Yes, whichever tripod the OP decides to get, I'd also highly recommend a bowl mount, not a center column style.
