  1. Hi Dave - I think the X-T2 is as far from a good vlogging option, but the G85 is near perfect. If you're vlogging from home, just use the excellent Image App from Panasonic and you can adjust the camera, tap focus and you're ready to share your brilliance with the blogosphere! I'm going to try setting it up on the Crane gimbal with the Leica 12mm f/1.4 this weekend, do some walking around, and share the results. I already know the 12mm can be balanced. Only biggie is sound - I might end up dragging my old Sony audio recorder out of the closet.
  2. I'm going to see if I can't get my hands on the 50mm f/2 this afternoon. I probably won't do an official video, but I'll share a few screen grabs.
  3. I purchased the VPB with the camera, and I think it's great - plus, there's more to hold on to. I think it's kind of necessary for video work. I found this over at FujiRumors: Fujinon XF 50mm F2 WR Vs. XF 56mm F1.2 Jordan just shared his XF50mmF2 Vs. XF56mmF1.2 comparison at admiringlight here: “both are very good lenses. The 56mm f/1.2 is sharper at similar apertures over most of the frame, though the 50mm f/2 is a touch sharper at the edges at f/2. Bokeh is a fairly close race, and as both are quite sharp, and both have nice renderings, I’d consider the other factors when choosing between the two.” Which is absolute BS. Check out the charts from lenstip.com (note: performance is slightly better on the X-T2. These are with the X-E1)
  4. @Phil A Here are a couple screen grabs straight out of the camera, Classic Chrome H -2, S -2.
  5. Kind of non-photography. Anyhow, Classic Chrome with highlights -2 and shadows -2 gives you a pretty nice flat image to work with, maybe not like Panasonic Natural with everything dialed down to -5, but it's definitely gradeable. I shake like the devil too, so I never take the X-T2 out without either a gimbal or a sturdy tripod.

    Lenses

Apparently, Fuji's 50mm f/2 lens is brilliant, and has broken resolution records for the X-mount. The focal length is a cause of concern for some stills shooters, but when shooting 4K, it's pretty much perfect for portraiture, head shots, whatever - as well as being rather economical (for Fuji!), super compact, all metal construction, and made in Japan.
  7. So many test low light on a completely black night with no light, but I don't shoot like that. I find tests in a dimly lit room so much more useful, don't you? And almost nobody shoots people. I'm far more able to judge noise when I see how it looks in faces than I am on a picket fence or a tree trunk...
  8. I'm sure they are working on it, and I'm hopeful it will be fine, but nobody here can say for sure except Brian Caldwell.
  9. The XL is .64 X, not .71. Are you sure you don't have the Ultra?
  10. I get what you're saying, but in this forum at least, are we really concerned about what the general public sees, or what soccer moms would notice? I know I'm not, or I would still be shooting video with my Canon Power Shot...
  11. Jealous! Mine won't arrive till April or even May. Variable aperture universal zoom or no ( ), I'm really liking the compactness of going out with one native lens mounted on the camera and two fast primes in a small bag. Especially now that I'll be going out on location with lighting gear - I can still carry almost everything by myself (at least to the street corner, where I'll take a taxi).
  12. Got it! ? If the content is engaging, people nitpick less. Unless the defects are glaring anyhow. Back in 1998 I think it was, when I saw the Danish film Festen (Celebration), shot on DV, one of the ugliest looking images I'd ever seen, but to this day, among the most powerful films in my experience.
  13. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by composition - composition of which shot? "Composition needs to be strong at ISO 12800" - could you clarify this for us a bit? ?
  14. Hugh Brownstone decides the GH5 is a keeper. Here he does low light tests. Unlike so many of these talking heads whose faces look like magenta marshmallow blobs (99% of what I've seen here), Hugh at least has enough respect for his audience to correctly light, expose, and white balance his face. I can't really take many of these other reviewers seriously when they don't even know the very basics of photography. And yes, I will be getting the GH5.
  15. Not a good idea to do a shoot with a brand new camera you haven't had time to play with first.
  16. USB 3.1 has double the transfer speed of USB 3. Type C refers to a smaller port and it's reversible, meaning you can insert the cable either way. Not all Type C ports run on the 3.1 specification however - in fact, they may actually be running USB 2.0.
  17. It's also to increase battery life.
  18. Nobody's talking about hating anything, and it doesn't sound to me like anyone is trying to come across as smarter than anybody else. 'Not a fan of this in & out focus technique' sounds like a perfectly reasonable and sane critique to me. And nobody that I know of was attacking anybody personally.
  19. so offloading the SD card is twice as fast as USB-C?
