I trust you implicitly.

I only shot with the Sigma a few times, and I must say, the results were amazing. But this is precisely why I've been recommending fast primes like the Olympus 75mm f/1.8 and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN - putting APS-C or full frame glass on a tiny body like the GX85 just spoils all the fun of having a compact camera that shoots better video than many of the professional cameras I see crews using here for broadcast television.

Thanks, I just downloaded and installed the firmware update. The noise problem has been fixed. It used to be, whenever I shot video, the neighbors below would hit the ceiling with broomsticks and yell, "your camera sounds like a freight train pulling into the station!" Now, I can live in peace again. haha So I guess they tried to reduce the IBIS noise picked up by the internal microphone, huh? I guess we'll have to wait and see what the internet community thinks...

Video taken down by user. The other videos uploaded by him were all clean looking on Safari, even the Disney one, which was shot at night as well. And I've never experienced that with any other videos on YouTube either, unless they were lifting the shadows too much. So it's not my hate mode this time.

You're funny. ? Waiting for me to tear it apart? ha Unfortunately I'm at the coffee shop so I can't watch it on my lousy Safari browser. Looks like I hurt someone's feelings. The Mitakon video has been taken down by the user. ?

Monsieur Pampuri loves to listen to himself speak, but he says nothing at all that we don't already know from reading Panasonic's literature; he just babbles on endlessly about how wonderful the camera is, but it rings hollow. It's also especially uncomfortable watching him at such close proximity. Some of the most underwhelming footage I've seen from the camera to date. Even Paris, one of the most photogenic cities on earth, fails to interest me in these blasé shots. Edit: Once again, aside from some questions about the noise (M. Pampuri didn't do any de-noising), the comments are mostly of the genre 'to die for!', so I'm thinking of going to the clinic tomorrow to see if I've suffered a concussion or something...

The images are cool, but there is pretty bad artifacting (macroblocking?) or something going on, at least on my computer with the slow connection here, so again, difficult to make any call on the image quality. Maybe they were lifting the shadows too much? I've got no idea... Edit: I'm not seeing the macroblocking in Joe Nanoski's A Disney Night video, so I'm assuming there's something wrong with the way he uploaded it or something. Yet nobody else even mentions how distracting it is in the comments, so color me baffled.

You mean when they handed the mic over to the interviewees?

I've been watching a lot of editing and color correction videos online, i'm working on another project now, hopefully it will have a couple of interesting transitions.

Thanks, Stanley. Either Panasonic has improved their color science, or I'm just getting better at white balance. I just had a Hoya UV filter on the lens, but most of the shots were probably at around f/3.5 or thereabouts, some a little wider. The couple were sitting in bright light, I didn't have a chance to think, so that was shot at f/8. If I had time, I would have upped the shutter speed. I haven't shot slo mo in ages, but I'd like to start using it again. It might help break up the monotony a bit.

Many of the features of the spanking new GH5 will trickle down to the midrange cameras, including 4K 60fps, 4:2:2 10-bit, no crop in 4K, USB-C for faster transfer of files, higher frame rates in 1080, faster processing power, dual IS II, sharper EVF and LCD screens. The nice thing is, unlike Fuji or Samsung, for example, Panasonic is no longer going to give us pixel binning or line skipping or whatever (I confess to not knowing all the technical stuff) on their lower end cameras. And I predict the next model will be a rangefinder style body similar to the GX80/85, with many of the capabilities of the GH5, minus things like vector scopes, wave form monitors, V-Log, anamorphic, master pedestal, and dual card slots at a price around $1,200-1,300.00 USD. And since I don't need any of those features, I'm seriously considering waiting and seeing what Panasonic has to offer in the fall. Because quite frankly, the GH5 is more than I need, and I prefer a more compact body like the G80/85.

I didn't understand your question then, but if that's what you meant, you will be unable to exploit the fullest potential of the sensor with the kit lens, and personally, I wouldn't use it even if it were free. If budget is a consideration, you'd be better off investing in something like the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN (around $300.00 USD), and adding more lenses to your kit as your budget permits. But it sounds as if you've already made up your mind.

Agree with Mercer's suggestion, but I'll add that if you do end up using a focal reducer with your Nikon glass, the extraordinary shallow depth of field and light gathering ability you'll get from your Nikons could very well make you quickly dissatisfied with a slow, variable aperture kit lens.

Thanks, Mike. Yes, all handheld, IBIS.

For anyone who's interested, I posted a very short test of the Olympus 75mm f/1.8 on the Lumix G85 over in lenses. Edit: The more I use this camera, especially with stupendously great lenses like the Olympus 75mm, the more I'm realizing I really have little to no dissatisfaction with it whatsoever: it delivers good color and very pleasing skin tones right out of the box, the EVF is large and bright, it's compact as heck, the 4K images have little to no moire or aliasing (for the most part)., it's very customizable, and it is a bargain for what it is. My biggest complaint is that the clicky buttons are much too shallow, and don't give adequate feedback when I'm pushing them to change white balance, ISO, etc., and that the AE/AF-L button is too close to the EVF, so whenever I want to back button focus, I have to move my eye from the EVF in order to press it. The title of this thread should be 'is there any need to get a GH5 for video?'.

Here's a quick and dirty field test of the insanely good Olympus Zuiko 75mm f/1.8 lens for micro four thirds, shot on the Lumix G85. Music by Eric Matyas www.soundimage.org

And if you're willing to wait just a bit longer, say September, Panasonic will be releasing the G100, essentially the same as the GH5, only in a more compact rangefinder body, with 4K 60, no 4K crop, USB-C, Dual IS, the same resolution EVF and LCD, but only 1 SD card slot, no anamorphic mode, no in-body 4:2:2 10-bit or V-log, and without vector scopes or waveform monitor for only $1,300. ?

That's my fault, Rich. I got happy with the delete button. I saw Kisaha's comment posted twice on my computer, deleted one, then they both vanished. I pm'd Kisaha, hopefully he'll respond soon. Apologies.

How is this relevant to the discussion at hand?

Well, if there is any vignetting at all, it's certainly not bothersome. And if you're like me, and already own an XL and are contemplating getting the GH5 (something which, more and more, I'm thinking not), I understand the interest in these tests. For those who don't already own the XL, I would definitely caution against pre-ordering one and hoping MB will come out with a firmware update that solves all these issues. And for those investing in the micro four thirds system for the first time, I would strongly urge you to check out some of the great fast native lenses available before investing in a focal reducer.
