  1. For those who think Grant Petty is a philanthropist giving away free software and cameras - well first, the P4K is a great deal as far as I can tell - and for sure, Blackmagic isn’t as big as Sony - but their business is nothing if not profitable, with an annual revenue exceeding $300 million a year. I’m not saying this in any way to detract from Grant Petty’s achievements - just to put things in perspective, bcz it sounds as though some actually think he’s giving away cameras for free. You might do a friend’s wedding for free to build your portfolio, but this is far from Mr Petty’s first rodeo.
  2. I’m sorry, but these never-ending remarks about everyone dumping their GH5 cameras; speculating whether Panasonic is losing money on them; predicting that prices will plummet - is there some personal motive why someone’s been posting absurd comments like these week after week for as long as I can remember?
  3. Photographer Nathan Elson makes some very distinctive looking vlogs with the G7.
  4. This from an article about the influences in Better Call Saul (shot with the Red Dragon and Angenieux zooms): One of the Breaking Bad trademarks that Gilligan wanted to maintain for Better Call Saul is placing the camera in unusual spots. For many of those shots, Albert used a very compact Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4. “We put it on the ground shooting straight up, inside a coffee cup, on a threshold. Anywhere you could stick a camera, we put a camera,” he says. “When we were shooting a driving shot, I put it on the ground and Bob Odenkirk, who is a brilliant driver, very precisely drove over it without touching it. We were always looking for unusual shots.” source
  5. Cameras at all price brackets involve compromises or trade-offs. ?
  6. Right, they are the most accurate according to the tests, but almost universally disliked. Hopefully, the a7s III will be ranked lower.
  7. Color reproduction ranking. This should ruffle some feathers. ?
  8. debayering. At the same time, once a print has been struck and projected at your ordinary theater, resolution could easily drop below HD.
  9. Not silly at all. Film is roughly 5K, so after debayering, even these Panasonics don’t begin to approach the resolution of film stock.
  10. I’m sorry, but that is the funniest comment I’ve read in the past 38 minutes. Like, we all might as well shoot with a potato then in that case. ? Apart from the fact that filmmakers interested in this or any other camera will in all likelihood be viewing content on anything other than a smartphone. Really and truly, this ‘most ppl this, most ppl that’ type of reasoning doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. ? True that.
  11. If I were only going to be shooting Cinelike D, I would probably stick with either the G85. Great little camera. Now, if color, dynamic range, gradability and smooth tonal transitions mattered, I’d get the GH5 in a heartbeat.
  12. Looks fine to me. I don’t care about motion cadence, bcz I can’t see it unless shutter angle is off by a lot - and it’s impossible to judge on 99% of monitors and televisions anyhow, ‘cause they’re not true 24p anyhow. hehe That said, I like me some slo mo.
  13. He wanted to shoot with the Voigt 40mm f/1.2 E mount lens I think...

Looks as though Veydra's having some serious issues since last month. It is no longer possible to purchase anything through their website. Get yours while supplies last.
  15. And for those bored out of their minds who want to see what the S-Log2 looked like before...
  16. TBH, too many fruit shots, but footage looks a lot better than tons of videos shot in 4K that I’ve seen, and Devin isn’t magenta, another plus. ?
  17. If they were shooting N-Log, it’s possible it wasn’t given enough exposure as well, which would increase noise levels quite a bit.
  18. A recent discussion about the low light performance of the Z6 led me to do my first test with the a7 III. I don't get invited to many campfires so I had to settle for the gloomy interior of my room. This was shot at ISO 8000, S-Log2, no color correction in post aside from pulling down shadows & mids and boosting saturation.
  19. The noise looks objectionable on my 5K iMac. That and the LG OLED are my daily drivers. Even @anonim‘s night shots with the GH5 looked one hundred times cleaner.
  20. I realize that. I like the clouds in the sky, the trees with the mist in the air, the fellow going for a swim - but I’m not seeing anything extraordinary or magical here. I didn’t see what ISO this was shot at, that would interest me.
  21. But he’s saying you need to spend at least $900 to get this functionality. That is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. And if you need to buy more than one unit... ?
