I think you expressed yourself quite well. I have to say, I wasn't expecting a slaughter. But keep in mind, this isn't a scientific test. Maybe my focus was off (but there's no way it could have been off for every shot), maybe my adapter needs adjusting, who knows?

Well, here's round 2 of the Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 vs Leica Nocticron comparison. I think it's a hands-down for one of them. What do you think? Music by Eric Matyas www.soundimage.org
  3. Maybe this has nothing to do with anything, but since you shoot bands, it got me thinking of the great stills photographers that documented the great rock groups, jazz and blues musicians, shooting in hotel rooms, buses, airplanes, backstage - all in grainy black and white - I think any artificial lighting at all would have ruined those iconic images. Anyway, there's a place for natural or existing light, as well as for strobes, LED, fluorescent and tungsten. I like your shots BTW.
  4. We look forward to seeing some clips of your trip! You must be excited. I have been using Hoya HMC NDX8 filters exclusively for the past couple of years - until proven otherwise, I think they perform as well or better than some filters costing hundreds of dollars. But yes, it's not variable.
  5. Still no shining examples online showing improved AF-C on the GH5, but I'm not losing hope yet. ? For my own purposes, I don't need a camera to follow a speeding freight train headed directly toward me: I just want to be able to set up the camera in my room, walk leisurely (or hurriedly!) to my chair and have the focus lock onto me without any hesitation. Maybe it can do that already, I haven't tried with the G85 yet. Maybe this evening. But yes, as someone already pointed out, a dedicated lens and servo motor (along with smaller sensor) has got to be why camcorders are better at this sort of thing? Or are they? Are camcorders faster than Sonys at AF-C? However - what I'm really looking forward to on the GH5 is the joystick. Not surprisingly, nobody has really talked much about this. I don't believe, when rumors of the GH5 began to surface, that a joystick was number one on anyone's wishlist. Yet now that the GH5 will have those focus points, it should allow a great deal more precision for plain old AF. As some extremely perspicacious person mentioned in this thread before ?, when in manual mode with AF enabled, even pressing the touchscreen with the tip of the most delicate index finger in the world is not as accurate as hovering a joystick over the desired focus point. But here I'm only talking about AF-S, not AF-C.
  6. So Sebastian is right, it's pretty pricey for a fifty millimeter lens. I'll probably hold off on that purchase. Not everyone's going to agree with me on this, but I think it's great that the Lumix GH5 is going to have a joystick. I find using the joystick allows much more precision than the current implementation of the touch screen on Lumix cameras.

That would be awesome! I seldom go out after dark, but I'll see what I can do. At the moment, I'm working on a small project which I'll call 'motorists', which is just faces of people on their motorbikes on the side of the road, mostly at f/5.6 and under. Maybe I can give my 'model' a ring and go to the park and shoot some low light video another day...
  8. Can someone tell me how much the 50mm f/2 lens is going to cost? I can't find that information anywhere...

Just a heads-up, I'll be posting another Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 vs. Leica Nocticron field test sometime tomorrow if anyone's interested
  10. 1) What is holding you back from getting good images with the Samsung? 2) There are decent zooms in every camera system 3) Unless you're buying an Arri, all consumer cameras suffer from rolling shutter to some degree 4) If you don't swing the camera around quickly, you can minimize rolling shutter 5) if your content is interesting, nobody is going to notice rolling shutter, especially your own children. Honestly, although I don't own a Samsung camera, I've seen moving images from the NX1 that are absolutely lovely. I would just hold onto what you've got and ask for help from the community here if you're having trouble getting good image quality. It is unique, and if I could find one here in Vietnam, I'd pick one up in a heartbeat. There is no reason to get rid of a system you spent so much money on just because of a flash. There must be a dealer you can order from in the EU somewhere. Don't sell your equipment. Anyhow, that's my advice.
  11. I'm likin' the colors, the film-like graininess. Camerawork's a bit hyper, though.
  12. I'm thinking I'll hold off on the GH5 after all... In three more years, Panasonic will be launching the GH6 with 8K.
  13. Wow! Push Pull Cafe. Sip a latte, listen to a bit of Miles Davis, your X-T20 sporting a fashionable leather strap, slung over your shoulder ever so casually, and even order some rolls of Tri-X along with your carry-out special blend as you surf FB on your touch bar Mac. Maybe Fuji is for hipsters.
  14. The Camera Store TV hands on XT20 and X100F, along with a peek at the 50mm f/2, part of which was shot on the X-T20. Funny, it seems nobody can post a review of these cameras without someone saying in the comments section that they're for hipsters.
  15. Yes, you can get up to 10X magnification in focus assist - but testing my camera just now, I see that peaking does work ok at higher magnifications. But I think I still prefer 3X most of the time.
  16. Agreed, still quite expensive. And seeing Vietnamese (or anyone, for that matter) shooting with a tablet does make me cringe.
  17. Just one of the many baffling decisions Apple made when they designed the 2016 MBPr that infuriated photographers, myself included, was the removal of the SD card slot. So I'll be interested in seeing just how fast I can offload video clips from the GH5 to my own MacBook Pro through the USB-C port come April.
  18. I just finished watching an episode of Three Blind Men and an Elephant shot on the streets of Manhattan with an iPhone and DJI Osmo Mobile that looked good enough on my 15" MBPr. Sometimes I think we emphasize gear too much.
  19. Thanks, Axel. Right after purchasing the G85, the very first thing I did was to switch the functions of the two wheels: the one at the front with the record button to shutter speed, and the one near my thumb to aperture, because on my GH4 I was always inadvertently changing shutter speed. Anyhow, this morning I went into Dial Operation Switch Setup in the menu and assigned focus assist, which changes the magnification from 3X to 10X (confusingly called AF Mode) to the front dial, ISO to the rear dial, and all is well.
  20. No need to apologize, I need to chill sometimes.
  21. AKED-M's link is to a download of a copy of the presentation at Photokina of the GH5 on January 4th. Worth looking at and holding onto until the actual release.
  22. Okay, thanks, that clarifies it. Because there was no mention of a 27mm in the press release for the two new cameras Mattias mentioned.
  23. Pardon me for asking, but which 27mm lens are you referring to? The leaked press photos show an 18-55mm and a 23mm lens. I'm guessing that designing a 55mm f/2 as compact as their popular 23mm and 35mm lenses would be more difficult. And you wish that the 18-55mm had better stabilization or that Fuji bodies had IBIS? Because when you say 'I wish they had stabilization as good as Olympus's', you are implying that Fuji cameras already have IBIS.
  24. Sure, I'll let you borrow mine when I'm finished with it next week.
  25. Could you clarify? I can't follow anything you're saying here. If you weren't a forum member in good standing, I'd swear this was spam.
