  1. I haven't gotten a single out-of-focus shot yet using peaking at wide apertures on the GH4 with the Metabones and Sigma 18-35mm. You can always toggle between high and low settings for more precision. I recommend using the orange setting - it's much more visible.
  2. I just posted the video. I'll probably do a short write-up over the weekend. Still frustrating that I can't get the AF to work, even when I set the camera to AFS. I never use AF anymore anyhow, though...
  3. Should be up in a couple more days. I'm also trying out Filmconvert with the footage for the first time and liking the results quite a bit.
  4. I've been testing the Speed Booster XL 0.64 Canon mount with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 for the past week or so and resolution is incredible. I might have purchased a Metabones Speed Booster back when I had the GH3, but without focus peaking, it would have been very difficult to use in dim light, and the lack of OIS on non-Panasonic lenses was also holding me back. I'm still trying to get steady shots with the Joby gorrilapod though: it takes some practice. Focus peaking on the GH4 makes focusing crazy simple (especially when set to orange). The color quality and bokeh of this combination are simply stunning. I'm not sure I'd sell my Pansonic G Vario 12-35mm just yet though. There might be times I'll need it, like when flying it on the Nebula 4000. I can't do that with the Sigma. Below is a screen grab from a clip I shot at the Saigon Central Post Office this afternoon, no color correction. Settings: Natural, ISO 200, f/2, 35mm. And far from being the crispest image I've gotten so far... (sharpening in the GH4 was turned all the way down). Keep in mind, I have a $16 USD Hoya UV(c) filter attached, since good filters simply aren't available here in Vietnam. And here is another one I shot this evening.
  5. I got the Speed Booster XL a couple of weeks ago and have been shooting with it and the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and the resolution is crazy wonderful from wide open (f/1.1). I'll be posting my clips soon...
  6. And again, we're talking here about a camera (the 1D C) that retails for around $8,000 body only and a tedious workflow if you're shooting raw.
  7. but... neither Nikon nor Canon offer anything comparable for video at this price point (as low as $1,300), so it's a moot point. I love what the guys at the Camera Store are doing, but I'm afraid I'm not thrilled with the colors Jordan has got in this particular video. And while I've never pushed my color grades super far, I've never seen any blotchiness going for a slightly saturated look in the timeline with the clips I've shot using the Natural profile... At the same time, I'm not a fan of the 'flat' look, it doesn't look 'filmic' (or cinematic) to me at all.
  8. beg to differ here... panasonic color science does not suck, or nobody would care about V-Log in the first place. I don't know which Sony pocket cameras have internal 4K and S-Log, but most pocket cameras by all manufacturers seem to be missing stuff like microphone inputs, headphone jack and swivel screen, or they don't offer Cinema 4K (as well as the lack of lens interchangeability), so they won't be replacing the GH4 just yet. I just purchased a Speedbooster XL, Sigma 18-35mm lens and gorillapod and I'm still loving the GH4. And manual focus with orange peaking is a breeze. If V-Log does indeed increase dynamic range by as much as 2 stops, it will be even more sensational. Finally, I don't see Panasonic crippling their GH line to protect their cinema line - was there any other mirrorless camera packed with so many features when Panasonic introduced the GH4? Not knocking Sony though, far from it. [edit] just did a quick search and see that the latest Sony RX100 does indeed sport Slog. Below is a comparison between the Red Epic and the GH4 from Dave Dugdale's review. Sucky color? I don't think so...
  9. check out this thread http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/8952-wide-angle-advice-for-gh4/
  10. According to Lenstip, this must be the first disappointment from Voigtlander...
  11. This device is cool too, but it has limited functionality, as it only does photos, not video.
  12. This looks like just what you're looking for, and at a reasonable price, too. What concerns me most is its all plastic construction. On the other hand, while it may be super-convenient for ingesting media out in the field, I think its slow transfer speeds when connecting to a computer would bother me.
  13. This one looks even worse, with awful softness not only at the edges of the frame, but also at the center.
  14. @Julian, I watched the 720p video in full screen that you shared. Vimeo takes forever where I live, so the 1080p is gonna have to wait till tomorrow I guess.
  15. Nice trailer, but not a single frame remotely approaches the decency level in terms of resolution.
  16. i think here we're entering the territory of recorders like those made by Atomos, which record directly to SSD, and which cost thousands of dollars. Out of my league, I'm afraid.
  17. Ebrahim - I don't think you'll find a faster 1TB portable drive on the market than this. $600, but you pay for quality. It's also pretty.
  18. All well and good, but these aren't portable drives, they're meant to be installed in your desktop. Or am I missing something?
  19. The Gnarbox looks insane for sharing almost instantly on the web. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it were available today. Funny, they talk about usually shooting in the highest res possible and 4K capability, but they show a Canon 5D that can't even record proper HD.
  20. The 12-35mm was fine for me on the GH3 but with the crop on the GH4 it is no longer wide enough. I'm leaning toward the Tokina simply because it is widely available in Saigon. Also, it is much less expensive than the alternatives.
  21. you're absolutely right! know anyone who wants to buy my GH4, 12-35mm Vario, 35-100mm Vario, a Speed Booster and Sigma 18-35mm zoom? I've been such a fool! ;)
  22. And not only duplicate the files: for maximum security, the drives should be stored in different locations to guard against theft, fire, etc. :)
  23. I think 1 hour of C4K on the GH4 will fill up 45GB.
