  1. Do not even consider the 13". Get the 15" 500GB rMBP with nVIDIA card and 16GB RAM.
  2. @Sherif Dave Dugdale, in his test of the Gh4, was getting on orange cast using CineLike mode. Which settings are you using?

I found it a bit confusing myself, but here are some answers to a similar question posted in the forums: '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> I googled to see if there was any other useful workflow advice, but I didn't come up with much. Here is one: http://www.eduardoangel.com/2014/02/13/7-things-we-discovered-after-shooting-4k-with-the-gh4/ I'm in the same boat, as I'll be picking up my GH4 next Thursday.
  5. No hard feelings. Thanks for the heads-up, I just finished watching a half dozen of Brandon's videos over at Vimeo. Super talented guy.
  6. The only reason I prefer formatting my cards in camera is because I believe I read somewhere regarding another camera I no longer even own, that there was less likelihood of a mishap, so I continue to do the same with all of my other cameras once I've imported the files on my computer. And while I believe everyone here already knows I'm not rushing out to buy one, I have to confess that the overwhelming number of beautiful videos I've seen so far have been shot with 'crippled' Canons. Concerning other gear-oriented forums, the reason I don't read them anymore is because of the unnecessarily aggressive tone of many of the posts, and moderators don't seem to care. I do realize how annoying it can be to watch ignorant people lashing out at camera manufacturers, but nobody is doing that here. Remember, we're just discussing camera features, on a camera that represents half-a-year's salary for most of the people living here.
  7. +1 I do hope we can keep on topic and not attack others because of their opinions about the implementation of features on what is, after all, just a camera :)

    GH4 to get Log

Panasonic has given us focus peaking - on the GM1, the G6, the GX7 and the GH4. I think they've already made it quite clear they won't be adding it to the GH3. I agree with you about the input gain though - it's way too high, especially if you record live music.
  9. Gee - audio meters, battery level indicators, histograms, in-camera formatting - those all sound like welcome improvements to me. Actually, I prefer to format my cards in camera: does that make me a communist, too? And thank goodness we're not in the BM forum right now.
  10. Your test goes by at double the speed of light, so us mere mortals can't comprehend what's going on.... Slow the roll, Allan^^
  11. @Inazuma I don't think this is quite accurate. There is EVERY reason to shoot with a GH4, even if you only ever plan to deliver in 1080p. Just watch Dave Dugdale's outstanding
  12. 43rumors reports that a trusted source says Panasonic is going to add firmware for gamma log to GH4. They also posted a 45-minute detailed
  13. usually, just copying and pasting the URL works for me. :)
  14. I've got to agree, sorry to say, but this sounds ridiculously overpriced - I could purchase a new body and lens from say, BH Photo for the same price. If you're in a hurry to sell, I'd lower the price a touch. In fact, I live in Vietnam, and even considered your offer, that is, until I checked the exchange rates. Maybe you need to have realistic expectations.
  15. I'm no expert, but I've played around with DaVinci a bit (I mostly use FCPX), and it's much easier to select a particular hue, saturation and luminance, mask it, and track it. Have you downloaded DaVinci yet? Here are some great tutorials to get you started if you haven't. And perhaps raise the saturation in the GH3 up a bit?
  16. :) I've only owned my iMac a month or so, and already buyer's remorse. I expect the same will happen with the GH4. As for LUTs, I've got too many LUTs, not enough footage to grade!
  17. duh... maybe because there aren't any cameras in my price range that offer 10bit (at least, none with a workflow I'm willing to endure). Right now, it's banding and moire (GH3). I'll upgrade and it'll be something else altogether. It never ends... /edit/someone here in one or another thread rightfully said, nobody ever complained about the resolution of a movie they'd seen at the theater, or something to that effect. Which might be true, but what matters to me isn't what other people notice, it's what I care about that counts. And even though nobody's ever said, 'Jon, your pictures are unwatchable - too much aliasing!', I know it's there.
  18. I know 8bit doesn't cut it, at least not for me, but why do you say 10 bit isn't good enough?
  19. Yep. I'm experiencing banding, and I hardly ever lift shadows or shoot huge expanses of sky, and it happens even without the help of LUTs, though they tend to exaggerate the effect. So, you're saying even 10bits isn't sufficient? I thought that was the holy grail...
  20. You neglected to add, "and denoising takes all night to render". :)
  21. Hmmm... I just read this article by Oliver Peters, where he says :( But looking at your 'order of operations', it makes sense to me now. I think. :)
  22. Thanks, jcs and sudopera. @jcs but, but, but what about macroblocking and colored noise? and how do I ADD noise? are there actually products on the market for adding noise? It sounds absurd really - I don't think I could watch my clips if they were any noisier than they already are!
  23. Thanks, even though I'm getting more and more confused.
  24. Okay, but whether I add grain before or after the LUT, how do I know what FCPX is doing, since there are no nodes, I don't know what it's prioritizing :( And is there a difference between applying the LUT to an adjustment layer rather than directly over the clip? I thought adjustment layers were just for convenience - you know, to apply the same look to a bunch of clips at one time rather than individually.
