  1. When stills enter the equation, the A7 III is the hands-down winner in my book.
  2. If you’re shooting real estate, the a7 III is practically a no-brainer cf. to the GH5. Superior low light performance, great dynamic range, brilliant AF, and small enough to fly on the least expensive gimbals. But most importantly, you’ve got options for ultra wide angle lenses that are simply not available in m43. Not to mention it should be less painless than switching to an entirely new system. But IT ISN’T 4X CHEAPER to shoot 1080p. 4K cameras DO NOT COST 4X MORE than those dinosaurs that shoot 1080p. And NOT ALL YOUTUBERS exist solely to maximize profits. Many take great pains with lighting and recording audio; edit and view videos on 5K displays. YouTube videos uploaded in 4K are higher quality. And at the risk of repeating myself, 4K is really just clean 2K.
  3. 2. countable noun [usually singular] If you say that something is designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator, you are critical of it because it is designed to be liked by the majority of people. [disapproval] source
  4. Resolution on MB Air is 1440 X 900 pixels. It makes me ill when watching YT. YT videos look so much better on a 5K display, and twice as good on a 55” OLED. No reason to aim for the lowest common denominator.
  5. If the OP will be shooting video handheld on his trip, the IBIS of the Panasonic will come in handy.
  6. Learn something new every day. I had no idea you can’t grade proxies.
  7. I think you’re right, now that I wiped the smudges off my iPhone 5s. ?
  8. “We are preparing for the next 100 years by leaping into a new dimension.” - Nikon sweet dreams.
  9. Maybe you should brush up on your English. It’s obvious I am referring to the future. But you enjoy trolling me too much. ?
  10. Maybe because they’re the largest smartphone maker in the world?
  11. Do you work for Blackmagic or something? ?
  12. There’s a great deal more to it than just resolution - focus accuracy, field curvature, lenses that were previously thought to be parfocal, a slightly decentered lens - all these will be much more noticeable in 6K and 8K. Similarly, shooting 1080p with a $129 lens might look passable on a five year-old Macbook Air, but won’t necessarily hold up when viewed on a 65-inch OLED. And it’s quite possible that even 8K is wasted somewhat on sensors smaller than Super 35mm. So I’m a little skeptical of figures like ‘99% of such and such’, especially at wider apertures, and if we’re looking at more than center sharpness. How many more pixels can be packed into a micro four thirds sensor without deteriorating dynamic range and low light sensitivity? For those reasons, I believe Panasonic can no longer remain in the sidelines of the FF battles.
  13. May I ask what a Sonya is? ?
  14. Being able to take screen grabs from the timeline for my blog are reason enough for me to shoot 4K.
  15. I purchased one of Edelkrone’s original sliders and several years later noticed what appeared to be rust on the bearings. They asked me to ship it back to them, but because they no longer had that model, they would ship me their latest one at no cost. If I remember correctly, they shipped it to me even before receiving the return.
  16. Toyz r fun. Even as a student in the ‘80s, specializing in historical and non-silver printing processes, I spent a small fortune on chemicals, French watercolor paper, the best enlarger and lenses I could afford... and copper plates for gravure printing were costly as well. If focus peaking was possible in those days, I would have taken advantage of it too. Trying to focus an enlarger in the darkroom with a five dollar magnifier’s no fun at all!
  17. I have had excellent after sales service from Edelkrone as well.
  18. Sony was among the first, if not the first, to introduce focus peaking in an ILC hybrid camera - its NEX C3 - way back in 2011. As I understand it, parameters to control peaking sensitivity include a number of factors, including the detection threshold and the radius of influence to determine the areas of focus. Focal length, aperture, micro contrast, algorithms, processing power, the intensity and hue of the peaking and a whole bunch of other stuff I don't claim to understand also play a role. And of course, display resolution, which I already mentioned in my brief overview. As I said before, in my experience, peaking is often visible on the LCD of the a7 III when it is barely visible at all on the GH5. Peaking sometimes disappears entirely when using focus assist on the Panasonic, whereas it is easy to see on the Sony. At other times, peaking is restricted to a narrower area on the Sony when it covers a broader, less accurate area on the Panasonic. YMMV
  19. @webrunner5 I’m considering joining the Space Force. ?
