  1. I shot my last six or seven lens tests (Veydras, Sigma 60mm f/2.8, Olympus 45mm f/1.2, Oly 75mm f/1.8...) of static subjects, pulling focus manually with a BMD Video Assist and it’s a royal PITA.
  2. Supposedly even the GH5s has 14.6 stops DR. ?
  3. @Savannah Miller Are you saying the new sensor doesn't have dual gain architecture?
  4. heck, I'd pay $100 more today if my GH5 had better AF.
  5. But the video Don Kotlos shared says they’re working on the a7s III... ?
  6. Here’s what the pop up screens look like when attaching a Veydra 25 to the GH5.
  7. Not suggesting @Dustin get a Panny, but when mounting a lens with electronic communication, like the Sigma 16mm or 30mm DC DN or any of the Oly m43 lenses, IBIS adjusts automatically. When mounting a mechanical lens, a screen will pop up asking you to enter the focal length. It is super simple.
  8. First, let me say, I've got zero experience with either the a6300 or a6500, but my guess is if you're going to be using adapted lenses or shooting with the Sigma, you're going to lose much of the af-c advantage, particularly in video mode.
  9. I'm shooting PP1, Cine2, Cinema, -7.
  10. Thanks, Kye. The AF is like magic coming from Panasonic all these years. The first Sony lens I tried out in the shop, the 24-240mm, is insanely fast, accurate and silent, which is what made me decide to return the Sigma and stick with Sony/Zeiss. I'm not overly fond of zooms, so aside from the 16-35mm f/2.8, I got the 50mm f/1.4, the 35mm f/1.4 and the 85mm f/1.8. I just hope the cat's eye bokeh of the 85mm doesn't drive me nuts. I've been doing this for years and nobody's ever said anything. They're probably just cursing me under their breath. I don't do anything special or ask for permission. If I did, they'd probably smile at the camera, which would ruin the shot.
  11. Yes, it’s handheld (before my first cup of the morning). I’d actually ordered the 55mm f/1.8 but couldn’t wait any longer and picked up the 50mm f/1.4 from another shop. It’s pretty gargantuan.
  12. A brief AF-C test with face detect.
  13. The Canon C200 six months later. I watched this on my crappy iPhone 7, but if it’s the same on my desktop, all YouTube videos should look this good! Also, I don’t recall anyone mentioning the awesome face-detect AF that doesn’t focus on the background when the subject disappears from view (but TBH, until this video, I never paid much attention).
  14. Loving it, but most of all, reliable AF-C. sry for the off-topic...
  15. oops. Just re-read his post - I think you’re right. ?
  16. I can’t go along with the ‘they’ve been screwing us’ line. I paid $1,800 for the GH5, $1,880 for the a7 III, or around $500 more for the two hybrid cameras which admittedly pack a lot more tech. You may not need or want that tech, you might just want a sensor in a box that shoots RAW, and that’s fine, but that tech costs money either way. For working professionals who need a hybrid camera (read: most people), a full frame camera for under $2,000 is still peanuts.
  17. @kye Max Yuryev just uploaded a video recommending the 24-105mm f/4 to those who can only afford one lens, and Chris Niccolls also speaks highly of it in his review of the Tamron 28-75mm. Ken Rockwell loves it too, calling it "the world's best midrange zoom" for its great optical performance, build quality, price, weather resistance, extra zoom range and optical stabilization. It's hard to argue with him, since his picture gallery shot with the lens is pretty spectacular, especially his aerial view from the Las Vegas Strip at sunset shot wide open.
  18. I’ve been doing a little research and it looks like there are several reasons why the 24-105mm f/4 might be a better investment than the 24-70mm for a general purpose lens.
  19. I’ve been watching Godless and Luke Cage on Netflix and really like how they use wide angle lenses to include the surroundings, so I might have a go at that. But longer lenses are definitely in the cards.
  20. First, the salesman gave me the Sony 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3. I set it to 50mm and started shooting peeps around the shop and it nailed focus quickly and accurately every time. I double-checked the clips on their iMac just to be sure. But I ended up leaving with the 16-35mm f/2.8 GM.
  21. I returned the Sigma and bought a Sony. AF-C is much faster and more reliable.
