@deezid Looks great!

First, it’s an anonymous representative of a fictitious company, now suddenly it’s hordes of people.... story keeps changing every minute.
-
Actually, what you are saying is there is no truth to the fabrications that only you yourself were spreading. You never spoke with a major distributor in the first place. And Dan Kanes already settled this matter to my satisfaction in an email to me last year.
-
That’s what I thought at first, too. But according to @IronFilm, the spokesperson was just referring to BMD. And I was inclined to go along with that.
-
After re-watching the video, it became apparent that the spokesperson meant that BMD had never used that sensor before. You mean to say you actually watched that video? I was just sharing it because of the wonderfully cinematic zoom lens on there. ?

Massive discount? Cool! Please share the link to a site that is massively cheaper than the $1,800 I paid last year with extra battery and V-log.

One of my favorite lines from North by Northwest: Ticket Seller: Something wrong with your eyes? Roger Thornhill: Yes, they’re sensitive to questions.

My guess is you are making this all up; that you have some axe to grind; that you conveniently lost the business card and can’t even recall the name of this major distributor you supposedly spoke with. Because you are straight up calling Dan Kanes a liar and seem to think you know more than all the filmmakers who’ve handled these lenses and specialists like Tito. Why don’t you stop spreading malicious gossip? According to your tale, you chatted it up with some anonymous person at NAB who just happens to be an authority on all things anamorphic; and not only that, you didn’t even trouble yourself to do any fact-checking. We get it already - you were disappointed in the build quality and feel the natural human desire to lash out at somebody. That's like totally understandable, man. But this isn't a rumors site. Maybe fb would be more appropriate. Better still, why don't you confront Dan Kanes face-to-face? Any coward can post shit on the internet.

Fringer Pro adapter for Canon lenses.
-
What's lacking on all three cameras, as I see it, is 1080i 50Mbps.

The combined filmography of the handful of cinematographers on the Sharegrid website who champion the Atlas Orion anamorphics numbers in the hundreds, including the endorsement of Christopher Probst, director of photography on two episodes of the highly acclaimed Mindhunter television series, and Matthew Duclos, who has spent half his life in the lens business. These people are not dupes or mouthpieces. If there was any deception involved, they would be the first to spot it and denounce it.

@IronFilm Lens designers don't manufacture the glass. Still waiting for DBounce to reveal his source as he promised he would.
-
@DBounce Yes, it matters! Tito Ferradans is someone I can trust; who knows as much or more about anamorphic than anybody: yet he hasn’t come forward and accused Dan Kanes of lying when he says these lenses are a new design.
-
It is hearsay. Not a report. Unverified. Name of distributor? Or is that TOP SECRET? ? In any case, you heard some gossip from one unnamed individual - that is not very substantial. Is this person privy to the design and manufacturing process? Does he know something dozens of reputable industry professionals who’ve handled and tested these lenses don’t know?
-
Thanks, @DBounce. There seems to be next to no other coverage of these lenses at NAB. Disappointing we haven’t got any more new footage either. Just a tiny quibble is with your saying it is reported that these are rehoused projector lenses. Those are not reports, they rumors spread solely on this website by a handful of individuals.

Recording to a drive via USB-C seems a touch risky to me. The photo where they just have a Samsung drive dangling off the camera - all you’ve got to do is breathe and it will fall out. I suppose a clamp comes with the camera?
-
At the opposite end of the spectrum is this representative for G Technology, who, as one YouTube commentor pointed out, may come across a bit like a used car salesman - but he could probably sell quills to a porcupine. ?

When Johnnie Behiri asked the gentleman from Skybeam what motivated him to produce such tiny cine lenses, he pretty much said it was to offer a low cost alternative to budget filmmakers, which in itself is admirable - but it made me think of someone during a job interview saying they were just applying because of the salary. Of course, for many of us, that’s unfortunately the case, but I was hoping for a little something more - passion perhaps? Failing that, he could at least have enumerated the advantages of small cine primes: a lighter rig, better balance on small camera bodies, flying on a gimbal, anything at all! And when describing their look, he said they had a greenish yellow appearance - which is neither here nor there - but we would have liked to hear the reasons behind such a decision. Or is it that obvious? Lastly, incredibly small, optically excellent f/2 photography lenses covering an APS-C sensor do exist, but I think anything over 50mm is going to entail serious compromises in image quality. Edit: not so sure with cage, rails, follow focus, matte box and monitor that the rig would be much smaller at all, and the lenses’ small form factor would probably create more problems than they solve.

Even if I were able to balance the Pocket on my Zhiyun Crane, the lack of AF-C would be a challenge for me, just like it is with my present camera.

Now that we know Panasonic is not worried about cannabilizing sales of their EVA 1, I wonder how they’d go about implementing RAW HDMI out? A free or paid firmware update? Just the GH5s, or the GH5, too? Would they ship the code by snail mail, like they did with V-log? How would image quality really be affected? Would NR and sharpening be bypassed? Would petitioning Panasonic to write a few lines of code to allow turning off sharpening and NR be more likely to get a response than asking for RAW HDMI out? Because even enabling RAW output would mean customers having to spend nearly a thousand extra dollars for the Ninja V, storage, and whatnot. $3,500 for the GH5s + recorder vs. $1,300 for the Pocket! Because most of the complaints we’ve seen up until now from actual users are not about thin footage, but overprocessing. Most filmmakers would probably choose the Pocket 4K over the GH5 for RAW anyhow, since it can record directly to CFast or SD cards, no? Or would Apple users choose Prores RAW over DNG? So many questions! Probably never hapoen in a million years anyhow! Stop dreaming...

I’ve got no problem at all with this sort of explanation and agree about the noise reduction and sharpening. Edit: since you just edited your last post - words like garbage and telling people they must be on drugs is not the best way to convince people of anything. You mean to tell me that calling cameras garbage is not offensive to the thousands of forum members who use those cameras every day? You deliberately use inciteful language to stir people up, then pretend it’s just about the camera. The other possibility is that you don’t realize how those words affect people - but I don’t think so, since your last response was worded in such a way as to not give offense.
