  1. You could have said the same about Oppo, who made the best blu ray players in the business, but which has enjoyed the largest segment of the cell phone market in China.

    Motion Cadence

We're both in over our heads.
  3. In wolfcrow's video review of the GH5 (prior to the firmware update), he went to great lengths to demonstrate that 10 bit would require at minimum 560Mbps to show a difference in quality to the 8 bit 150Mbps footage. But after the update, he said 400Mbps was fine and recommended not using the Inferno. So confusing!

Aren't online videos Long GOP? How can you tell the difference between these cameras by comparing them on YouTube? Don't know for sure, just asking...
  5. I think he says it grades well enough, it's just that many broadcasters and production houses require 10 bit 4:2:2 (according to Matthew Allard).
  6. I think it's almost an exercise in futility judging a camera by online footage, good or bad, because it really is the camera operator and the creative choices they make that determine whether a video looks great or mediocre. I just watched a clip shot with the Terra 4K that looks no better or worse than the GH4, and I'm sure it's capable of spectacular looking results. Just not in this case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xpfFd-TDhk
  7. Matthew Allard, who seems like a pretty knowledgeable guy to me, says in his article about the firmware update that there will be no "edit friendly internal codec that meets the standards imposed by a lot of broadcasters and production houses." He goes on to say that "There have been several petitions from Canon customers circulating around that have been pleading with Canon to implement a 4:2:2 10-bit codec in the C200, but they seem to have fallen on deaf ears."
  8. Not a big deal, but I was wondering whether Filippo Chiesa used a smoke machine in Ettore's Stargate. It turns out to have been real haze.
  9. Has anyone used tethering for video? If so, for what application and how did it work out? Also, has anyone tried out the focus transition feature more than once?

    Motion Cadence

Years ago, Terenax published a paper on their video processors for de-interlacing video and problems with motion cadence, but I can’t find any technical papers related to progressive video. Terenax

I think it’s the EOSHD server. I would love to see the look on any one of the camera manufacturer representatives’ faces if a YouTuber were to approach them and ask about their crappy motion cadence. I would pay to see that.
  12. It was okay, just a touch shaky.
  13. The footage is too shaky for me.
  14. According to an article last month at Newsshooter, these are rebranded NiSi lenses.

    Motion Cadence

I've been meaning to shoot some 30p and put it on a 24p timeline to see how that works. Actually, some people believe if you're shooting 4K, you should be at 60p for the most natural motion. I wanted to try that out as well, since my subjects never move much anyhow. And when I whip the slider around like I do, it's too blurry at 24p. If I move the camera any slower, the caffeine shakes get even worse. Problem is, I ordered an HDMI cable for the Ninja almost three months ago, and it still hasn't arrived, so no 4K 60p for now. With any luck, next week.
  16. @webrunner5 When I was still studying photography, one of our assignments was to go out and shoot some high key pictures. I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

    Motion Cadence

Around seven years ago, there was an interesting discussion about the motion cadence of the GH2 over at Personal View, where cadence is simply described as the interval between frames and as unrelated to the type of shutter, as best as I can understand it anyway. Stuttering would be the result of an uneven interval between frames. Or something like that, it's too technical for me.
  18. @omega1978 I think I was wrong about the cyan cast in the first one. hehe I like the colors of the first upload more. But both still look kind of grayish, lacking in contrast, and perhaps too bright.
  19. I’ll have a look once I get back home. But... I thought your first upload had a cyan cast, no?
