Haha. Can we please just forget the phone comparison? It was just to get the ball rolling. I want to see side-by-side comparisons between the top mirrorless brands that some in these forums are saying have such abominable motion cadence that they either aren’t buying the camera or are returning it.
  2. Yeah, you might as well forget going handheld with the Inferno, even though all of Atomos’ materials make it look easy as pie. ?
  3. @omega1978 Have you considered using the Shogun Inferno as a grading monitor?
  4. When talking about missed opportunities - such as the lack of a full HDMI port, zebras, a larger battery or headphone jack - those criticisms need little further explanation. The reader is free to judge for themselves whether those remarks are legitimate or not. But when it comes to color science, we’re really entering the realm of subjectivity. It would help your case immeasurably if you could find some side-by-side comparisons done by someone with some shooting and grading skills like Filippo Chiesa. I can repeat over and over that Chicken Treat has the best cornbread or mashed potatoes in the world, but if nobody can taste them and compare, it doesn’t mean much.
  5. @omega1978 Thanks, the video is clear, concise and well explained. The only hitch is that you're grading blind without a proper HDR monitor, which I'm assuming is why your clip looks a little bright with a cyan cast. I enjoyed it much just the same.

? Looks like JJ's closed. There's a new fish and chips place there now, maybe I'll check it out tonite.
  7. Anything with a 3/8” thread will do the trick.

?. God, I’d kill for some fish and chips now. Not a thing here in Vietnam, I guess.
  9. My first camera was made from an oatmeal box and tin foil.
  10. All of them had no colorist or all of them had a colorist? ?
  11. You’ve shot dozens of films yourself - any of them ever bypass a colorist?
  12. I’m not impressed at all by the Eterna footage that’s been uploaded till now. SOOC will always pale compared to a graded image.

Tony Northrup recently did a poll where respondents frequently got it wrong when comparing the noise in two shots, even when the two images used were identical. I guess some people were intentionally guessing wrong just in order to mess up the results. So I'm pretty skeptical of these kinds of online polls myself.
  14. @Robert Collins Correct, I get the same result in Final Cut Pro. The exposure in this shot isn't even taking full advantage of the entire dynamic range of the sensor.

@jahwah First, Pina Bausch - what a brilliant choreographer! Still, from what I've read, rolling shutters actually perform better in low light than global shutters. I've got no idea, since I've never shot a camera with global shutter. I'm still waiting for someone to share a side-by-side comparison between the most popular brands of mirrorless cameras.
  16. One of my favorite docs I saw last year, The Defiant Ones, was shot with Canon’s C300 and C500 - cameras with around 12 stops of dynamic range afaik.

I think he used the same camera for both.

If that is so, at least a few of the hundreds of camera reviewers out there must also be sensitive. But they’re not. Pretty much only in these forums. Anyhow, maybe some of those who claim to see these differences can contribute video comparisons.

Exactly. Often I think it's either the IBIS or AF-C pulsing, or sometimes strobing effects due to fast panning that are mistakenly attributed to whatever motion cadence is. The rest are probably because of incorrect shutter speeds.
  20. And Max never said there were losers or winners either, to the best of my recollection. In fact, I thought he was quite positive. He said the stabilization while walking was superior to the a7 III and he found the AF quite good, if a little abrupt. I'm not sure what you're going on about black and white.
  21. @Emanuel Please, just show me where Max Yuryev's test is biased. If you're going to dismiss someone's labors, at least have the decency to say where they've erred.
  22. I thought the test was well done and I don't believe he is biased in any way toward Sony. His review of the X-T2 was glowing, and he says he prefers the build quality of the X-H1. Show me the bias, and I'll listen.
  23. Supposedly, the GH5 only has around 11 or so stops of dynamic range. How many stops of dynamic range would you consider adequate for a filmic look? The following clips were shot with the GH5, Olympus 45mm f/1.2 PRO and the following settings: HLG, ISO 400, ALL-Intra 400 Mbps
