  1. So there you have it - no PDAF forthcoming.

@JordanWright I traded in the Nocticron so never had an opportunity to do any side-by-side tests. ?

Likin' the Olympus 45mm f/1.2.(screen grabs)
  4. That could be true, but Fuji couldn’t have IBIS either. ☺️
  5. But if an a7s III had electronic ND filters and 4K 60p, wouldn’t it also be competing with the FS5?
  6. Doesn't look so great to me, but heh... Kind of a wobbly seven-second shot, not quite sure what to make of it... For the record, I've never ever seen a gimbal shot that almost made me feel sea sick.
  7. Still waiting for proof of his statement several days ago that the Kinefinity Terra 4K uses the same sensor as the GH5S, supplied by Sony Semiconductor.
  8. The video's been uploaded in 1080p and suffers from a lot of compression, so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about the image quality.
  9. Yeah, for my own needs, I’ve never needed unlimited record time. I was just referring to the performance of the IBIS. Video looked fine though. ?
  10. Re: the 1st video - any video shot in slo-mo with one-second clips would look as good, IBIS or no IBIS. The second video is too short to make any determinations one way or the other.
  11. Is this a hobby? A profession? Why must you shoot in harsh lighting anyway? Just curious...
  12. Compared to the a7 III: skintones, AF, etc.
  13. just another wholly unnecessary nonconstructive comment. welcome to bashing time. You've already made it clear nobody can grade properly and now the principles of correct exposure are not a topic for discussion. I would think that anything that helps readers get the best results from their X-H1 would be useful.
  14. As far as I'm concerned, you're still alright in my book, Glenn. I'm not commanding anyone to shoot ETTR. In fact, the boxing clips by Bernard Bertrand were shot exactly how he wanted them to look in the the final cut, with only tiny adjustments in post. But again, he was shooting at high ISO in very low light, so ETTR was out of the question. Whatever works for you. I don't understand why you think I'm insisting people shoot ETTR. I could very well have given less exposure in the shots above and had less work in post, but the shadows would have been noisier and shallow depth of field would have suffered a bit.
  15. A reflector costs as little as $5.00. LEDs have never been more affordable. Check out DSLR Video Shooter on YouTube. For these shots, I just used a reflector that cost less than $9.00. But you're right Glenn, I'm uncivilized. The first shots are a touch ETTR, the second shots have been slightly corrected in post.
  16. That's right, Glenn - when shooting HLG, I set zebras at 90%, Cinelike D 100% and adjust the aperture until the stripes just disappear from the important highlights. If I'm working in low light and have to raise my ISO, I'm less concerned about ETTR. bLAH, BLAh, blaH. It's not the law, it's a guideline. Do whatever you like. But I always bring along a reflector and LED with me. Maybe that's too difficult to understand.
  17. I might be wrong, but I think the best way to truly see how the highlights roll off is not only to see the clips before and after grading, but also to have a look at the waveform monitor, which few YouTubers do. In the end, I would just go by the best practitioners, like Filippo Chiesa, who understands lighting and grading.
  18. Nobody said anything about abandoning anything. If you want the greatest dynamic range, you must shoot at base (or native) ISO. As gain is increased, dynamic range drops. Increasing the ISO does not increase sensor exposure. If you are shooting in extremely low light and must shoot at high ISOs, go right ahead. As far as not needing much dynamic range in low light, I'm not so certain about that. It would be best to have as much dynamic range as possible, low light or not, am I wrong? That is the whole idea behind dual ISO. Incidentally, I'm not a pro, but I always bring along LED lights and a reflector on my shoots.
  19. Concerning the GH5s, @Neumann Films says the GH5s has better highlight roll off than the GH5.
  20. ETTR means adjusting the iris and is most effective at base ISO. So no, you wouldn’t want to mess with your ISO settings.
  21. Eterna is a LUT? I think you are confused. There is a LUT, but we were talking about the film emulation.
  22. Sorry, @Django, but while Eterna may certainly reduce the work involved in post (which BTW, I already said), Eterna was meant for greater creative flexibility when grading. It does not eliminate the need for grading. And unless you absolutely must have quick turnaround, a graded image will almost always be superior to an ungraded one.
  23. Not hating here or anything, but it would also sting a little having to buy a second battery grip if you already own the X-T2. Several reviewers have also regretted the missed opportunity to go with a greater capacity battery in the significantly larger body of the X-H1. Concerning SOOC color, when the X-T2 was released, practically everyone was saying how the film emulations were great if you didn’t want to do a lot of post processing. Then Fuji releases the X-H1 with Eterna because of feedback from filmmakers who wanted a flatter profile. Eterna was developed in order to allow more flexibility in post, not to be distributed SOOC. I’m not knocking Eterna, or those who must absolutely have the quickest turnaround, but SOOC video will seldom be better than mediocre - the best results are almost always obtained by post processing.

The DPreview article fails to mention field curvature and sample variance, so not the greatest journalism I’ve seen.
