  5. Low light sensitivity, shallower depth of field and AF ability are the three chief reasons why I would consider switching over to a larger sensor camera, so the AF-C tests interest me greatly.
  6. Thanks so much, @markr041 . This was pretty much to be expected, as 10-bit has much more color information and doesn't break apart and become splotchy like we see in the 8-bit image. The 8-bit color looks washed out when compared to the 10-bit. These were shot in perfect lighting - but if you were shooting under more challenging conditions, or wanted to apply a moderate grade, it would conceivably be even much worse. Which is why every single authority without exception recommends 10-bit as the absolute minimum. I just don't understand how certain people here, who have never even uploaded a single HDR clip, can assert that just because Sony cheated on the specs, that they must have found a magic bullet. Just the same, for anyone who does own Sony, I'm guessing that delivering in 8-bit HDR will still have higher quality than SDR.

  8. Thanks, @mercer , however, while the videos were indeed shot by professionals, they are very small budget productions with extremely minimal gear. The boxing video involved very little in the way of lights (though Dedolights are expensive!) and all Bernard Bertrand used to shoot the clip was a GH5s, a cage, a Titan arm, a Nocticron and an Inferno. Oh, and a cool light meter! I watched so many of his videos, so I get confused - he might also have shot with a 25mm. He graded the footage himself. Filippo Chiesa, as I pointed out a few pages earlier, also uses a modest setup - no gimbals, no sliders, no focus puller, and he is using very affordable lighting. You can learn more by reading the comments section over at Vimeo. He might have rented a smoke machine, it's hard to tell. His crew was minimal. As a matter of fact, the Fuji MK cine zooms rent for a mere $200/week, so not at all what I'd consider exorbitant. I paid nearly as much the other week to rent a studio out for just a few hours. And I'd argue that he could have just as easily used the budget Veydra lenses with equally good results.
  9. We are often mistaken too. What makes sense doesn’t always turn out to be so. In any case, no reason to choose one camera over another.

  11. On the video side, the Canon 5D Mk IV sounds a trifle lackluster. The touch screen doesn’t even tilt out at all, making it quite awkward to shoot. The 4K crop is a bummer. The HDMI out won’t put out 4K. Ancient codec that takes up lots of storage and is inefficient for editing. The files are very CPU intensive. Rolling shutter is not impressive. 60% more expensive than the Sony. Canon is just crippling their cameras to protect their high end. I don’t understand the hype around their cameras. Unlike Canon, Sony actually exceeded most expectations: dual card slots, headphone jack, 693 AF points, triple the battery life of its predecessor, great low light performance and on and on. No withholding of features to protect their top flagship models. They are out to dominate.
  12. I wasn't aware that any of the above mentioned cameras were even capable of shooting mediocre video, and I fail to understand why one would choose a camera that did if they were primarily interested in shooting video.
  13. I’m not buying the ‘videoish’ argument at all, at least until those repeating this nonsense can share better, more cinematic work of their own than the two extraordinary examples below. Incidentally, the boxing clip was shot entirely handheld, no stabilization. Both videos benefit from the filmmakers’ uncustomary understanding of light, location, composition, their choice of optically outstanding lenses and excellent grading that enhances the atmosphere and supports the story. Both also use V-Log for the utmost flexibility in post. As far as pricing and branding go, I’ve got no problem with either the name or paying $2,500 for such an incredibly versatile camera as the GH5s.
  14. Lenses don’t have to cost a fortune. I’m picking a few full frame Sigma lenses.

  16. It’s all plastic with a tiny bit of rubber and metal, but in my experience, it’s built to last. Maybe indestructible. ?
  17. Believe it or not, I actually tried shooting with this contraption on an easyrig when I realized it was completely impractical. Yes, next time, tripod. ?

If you want something light and mobile that will give you nice natural motion, and aren’t planning to use a cage, cinema lenses, monitor and all the rest, I don’t think you could do better than to get something like the Glidecam. Shoulder rigs and easy rigs are great for keeping a camera steady and for small sweeping motions, but with practice, a handheld stabilizer will give you much more freedom of movement.
