Since Deadcode revised the standard for HLG from 10-bit to 8-bit, it must be fine. After all, he says so. Never mind that every single authority without exception says otherwise. And I’m sure he’s also uploaded countless HLG HDR videos online.

Totally irrelevant to the topic. Maybe start a new thread about the endangered species of professional photographers.

are you a statistician or a photographer? The a7 III is going to sell like hotcakes.

Is this some sort of subtle trolling or is it the evolution of a new breed of avant-garde performance art? IBIS occupies space, just like you do, so the camera has to allow for that. Larger cameras balance better with longer lenses - basic physics. Camera manufacturers are keen to lose boatloads of money, which is why they continue to release reasonably priced pro bodies for a dwindling market. ’Class-leading’ does sound a bit like advertising jargon, though.

Here's a short clip with the GH5 and Sigma 60mm f/2.8.

@Axel I’ll go with option 2. ? I wouldn’t count on Apple fixing the bug anytime soon, but who knows..

I’ve got small hands. We don’t need tiny flagship cameras. What we need are cameras with buttons, dials and handgrips that don’t feel cramped. And even small cameras can benefit from chunkier dials and a beefier hand grip.

I like the jello effect in FF 4K.

I only tested it for a few seconds, and I haven’t tried out the ‘HDR’ function on the monitor yet; but while I believe I’ll be able to use the Shogun for grading, I’ve got a feeling I’ll have to use the scopes in Resolve. I don’t know whether there’s any way to convert IRE to nits - probably not.

Sometimes I use the camera’s audio for scratch track, sometimes I plug in an external mic, so I think it might be of interest to readers. Also, Fuji has implemented a feature whereby it is possible to record a track with the camera’s built-in mic along with another track with an external microphone, so I think it is worth investigating. I would also still like to know how the remote app works with the X-H1: is it still limited to 720p? I own five or six Fuji lenses, but anything’s okay. I’m sure some of us would like to know how well the feature that changes manual focusing to linear works for focus pulling. It sounds like you’ve got a great setup.

Cool, I look forward to seeing a picture of your setup. Also, whenever you have time, could you check the following items from Johnnie Behiri’s review: The monitored audio sounds distorted. At times, when using an external microphone and switching the audio menu to “Off”, audio can still be heard. At times, when using an external microphone and adjusting the audio levels, the sound can be cut off, become muted and the camera will freeze.

@pszilard I can understand your enthusiasm, but would you not have welcomed a larger battery that could record for two and-a-half hours and a headphone jack in the body rather than having to purchase the rather costly VPB? Also, would you be so kind as to share a shot of the cage you are using with the camera and battery grip? Is the top LCD visible when using a cage? Since you are using your iPad as a remote, could you confirm whether DCI 4K is available as an option?

The Shogun Inferno works with the Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Monitor and 2016 MacBook Pro, Final Cut Pro. (SDI connector)

I walked into a shop this afternoon to handle the a7r III and was a little shocked at how small the body, the dials and the grip are. As good as these cameras are, I don’t think it would be very comfortable to use.

It’s great to listen to filmmakers who understand and care about usability. The GH5 cannot be beat when it comes to ease of use. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?359319-Any-regrets-buying-gh5-in-light-of-A7(3)&

Yeah, I was referring to the forum members over at slashcam - but I think it makes sense as filmmakers to invest in a decent display. I also expect ppl in these forums to descend on me like hawks any time I make a reasonable statement.

@Axel I studied German for two years in college, but have forgotten almost everything. I had to use Google translate to read the thread. I’m guessing none of the commentors have ever watched a film on an OLED television? Lots of misunderstandings, like the one person who says something to the effect that he doesn’t want to watch a ‘bright’ movie at the theater, if I recall correctly. Some still don’t understand that when Dolby talks about 10,000 nit displays that those values would only affect the very brightest and tiniest areas of the screen, not the entire picture. As you mentioned earlier, laws regarding power consumption already force manufacturers to limit extremely bright areas to a small portion of the display and reduce overall brightness.

I’m in agreement there - all too often, words like mojo, character and organic are bandied about, which mean all things to all people. When discussing vintage lenses, for example, rather than talking about flare, vignetting, bokeh, distortion and other aberrations and artifacts which are quantifiable, we often just hear the word character, which in and of itself means nothing. Presumably a perfect lens has no character. Or at least, that’s what we’re given to believe. Mojo has no particular meaning either as far as I can tell. And as creators, I believe it’s especially important to be able to articulate what it is about a particular image that makes it so powerful, exhilarating, bland, reprehensible or what have you. The word mojo is little different from the word suitable. Suitable in what way? I used to ask my students why they’d chosen a certain profession, and that was the one word they’d invariably use. So I’d ask them to elaborate. Was it the opportunity to interact with customers? Travel? Vacation time? Benefits? The challenge? Being able to help people? The salary?

I’m seeing lovely skin tones out of this camera. Max might have gotten the white balance or grading off a touch in a few of his shots, but other attendees at WPPI have posted very pleasing images.

@Danyyyel That’s the a7 III.

Devin Graham just uploaded an unboxing video of 1/4 million dollars worth of Leica Summicrons, just few weeks after buying a set of Sigma cine lenses. Worst case of GAS I’ve ever seen.

exactly this.

@Axel Opas Kino. ?

I recall - it seems like ages ago now - going to the home of the chairman of the photography dept. at my college. I think I was there to ask him to write a letter of recommendation for admission to university. He led me into his basement, where he proudly displayed his elaborate setup for making digital prints. I remember thinking at the time that this was an abomination - what did this have to do with the true art of photography? And even though I Ioved traditional photography, my real passion was historical printing processes and gravure printmaking - coating fine watercolor paper with light sensitive emulsions, making 8X10 negatives or positives, drawing with pastel on gum bichromate prints, toning cyanotypes, spending hours preparing copper plates, shelves full of chemicals - digital just seemed hopelessly sterile. I actually felt a twinge of sadness for my old professor - how had he fallen so far? How times change!
