You’re probably not going to like my answer, @mkabi, but shooting HLG and throwing a LUT on it gets me closer to what I prefer. While some of my favorite films, like those shot by Christopher Doyle, are vibrant and full of color, I tend to favor a more muted palette. Classic Chrome is a lovely photo style, though. And I would have no hesitation recommending either the X-T2 or X-H1 based solely on image quality alone. Or if someone is shooting 50/50 photos/video. Here’s a video I’ve shared before, SOOC. Edit: There’s a new kid on the block now, so I guess I’d wait to check that one out too.

@Emanuel You’ve done the very same yourself, my good friend of the boards. But thanks for trying to keep the peace.

If a few are going to suggest that I was flaming, I think it’s important to remember why I restated my points in the first place. When a forum member made a ridiculing comment that ergonomics had no place in the discussion, I was compelled to explain why ergonomics are important, and that just happens to be the first aspect reviewers talk about when evaluating any camera. When another forum member said the lack of certain features did not bother them, I tried to explain that not only would such features not interfere with their picture taking, but that thousands of other photographers found those features useful and had actually requested them. And when someone said I was a fanboy and had no business comparing one camera to another, I went back and rewrote my criticisms without referencing any other camera. Of course, I could keep my peace or just write positive things about the camera - but we are already inundated with hundreds of photographers and reviewers who are sponsored by Fuji. But I will say that if none of what I’ve said matters to you and the only thing holding you back from getting this camera is that you’re waiting to see more tests or sample footage, I would say just go ahead and buy it. The image quality and lenses are what sold me on Fuji in the first place.

my comments are clearly not for you; why don’t you move on?

@Django So suddenly it’s a crime to so much as suggest that Fuji might have made better use of the LCD screen real estate; to ask whether Fuji might have been able to come up with a larger battery and include a headphone jack like Sony rather than requiring the purchase of a bulky and costly battery grip; to question the decision not to allow recording to both SD cards simultaneously; to encourage photographers to think about whether an aperture ring is really more efficient than a thumbwheel; to point out the half dozen or more bugs in the pre-production units; to remind readers that it took six months before a firmware update addressing the eye sensor bug of the X-T2 was issued; to speculate whether there was enough space for a full HDMI port rather than a micro HDMI; to expect a higher resolution LCD in a flagship camera; to alert filmmakers of the absence of zebras and a remote app that cannot record at a higher resolution than 720p; and so on.

Happy to see Amazon is building on their $5 billion/a year earnings, but what’s that got to do with anything? Polls, sales figures - you guys are making this out to be some sort of popularity contest.

Thank you.

@Matthew Hartman The colors can be as subtle or as saturated as you like. Chef’s Table on Netflix is an example of HDR used to great effect for documentary work.

The X-H1 isn’t even competing with the GH5, so I don’t know what the fanboy comment was all about.

A nice review of the Veydra 35mm T2.2 on the GH5.

I don’t know about opinions, but opinion polls can certainly be inaccurate.

It’s not over yet. Still no delivery. ?

Late Q2 or early Q3. Sony and Panasonic each have a 5% stake in JOLED, who make the panel for this monitor. 2018, still no OLED monitors on sale to the general public. The 22” Asus will probably go for thousands even though a top of the line 55” OLED TV sells for $1,500. It’s got USB-C ports, which is phenomenal, but dollars to donuts not Thunderbolt.

Does the Veydra Fuji X-mount really exist?

A viewer of my YT channel asked why I needed to grade my HLG footage. Wasn’t it meant to be delivered live? I said maybe the cameras at the stadium were hooked up to a van where technicians operated color panels with thousands of controls. To my surprise, I wasn’t far off. Here’s a bts look at DirecTV’s HDR production.

I speak my mind. If I thought Fuji owners had poor taste or didn’t understand design, I would have said so.
-
@Matthew Hartman I’d probably set the lens at hyperfocal distance.
-
This is all simply untrue except in your own twisted version of reality.

@anonim Have you shot with this lens wide open on a gimbal with your GH5? Are you planning on getting this lens? What is your argument?

Thank you, @Mattias Burling . While we may not all agree on what constitutes good ergos, I think rational humans can at least acknowledge that handling is important to filmmakers and photographers. To clarify, that is not a poll of Fuji owners, nor is it about Fuji cameras at all. More importantly, I would seriously question the options given in the poll in the first place.

I think it’s absurd to say that ergonomics are off-limits when discussing the X-H1 - after all, the single most obvious differences between the X-H1 and X-T2 are the size of the body itself and the grip. Other improvements are the buttons, especially the large, well-placed back button AF and IBIS. Fortunately, not everyone shares the belief that good design is meaningless, and not only camera design. Typography is another. Over 500,000 people a year either take the wrong medication or don’t follow the directions, partly because of poor typography. Elections have been won or lost because of confusing ballot typography. Sure, there are user preferences and subjectivity, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t question anything. And I question the decision to have a shutter speed dial on top of the camera and an aperture ring on the lens, which is considerably less convenient than dials that can be operated by thumb and forefinger. And this design extends to the menus, where Fuji makes extremely poor use of the 3” of space provided for things like adjusting microphone levels. As far as Fuji color science goes, aside from in-camera F-Log, 200Mbps, IBIS and C4K, the most significant update is arguably the addition of the Eterna film emulation - included because filmmakers weren’t satisfied with the other photo styles. You haven’t answered the question. How does one go about choosing a camera that will wow the majority, whoever they are? I’m the minority? That doesn’t make sense in any language I’m familiar with. Maybe you could just type in your native language and I can use Google translate. I suppose I should eat at McDonalds, drink the best-selling beer and watch the Gilmore Girls too. Do you even own a camera? Do you have a website, a YouTube or Vimeo channel where we can see your work? My guess is no. So no point in discussing anything with you.
