  1. @Andrew Reid Select a clip and copy (Command-C). Then, select the clips you want to apply the attrubutes to and choose Edit > Paste Attributes (or press Shift-Command-V). You can then choose which effects you want to apply.
  2. I’m not seeing any dirt cheap Shoguns anywhere
  3. That’s three stops of light reduction. Even more would be desirable in the hellish circumstances you shoot in. But yes, by all means, leave it on your lens during the day.
  4. just asking, was that the test with the pictures of vegetables?
  5. No, you don’t put a grey card on the reflector. Hold it in front of the lens in the same light that is falling on your subject. Buy any inexpensive reflector, have one of the children hold it while you are shooting small groups or individuals. Shoot at dawn and dusk as much as possible. Avoid the noon sun. Shoot more close-ups of feet, hands, garments and food. Try not to close your lens down beyond f/5.6. Change your camera angle to avoid strong light behind your subjects.
  6. a reflector folds up and is stored in a small pouch. It weighs nothing and takes up little space. I’ve never used ExpoDisc. I know you want better image quality than the Sony: but shooting in harsh sunlight at small apertures with no ND filter; leaving in camera sharpening set on high; without even using something as small and affordable as a hot shoe mounted LED light for your nighttime interior shots; and putting everything on automatic is going to result in camcorder footage.
  7. I love Vincent too, but the trailer does nothing for me. Now, standing before a real Van Gogh, that’s another story!
  8. If Cinema5D does a hatchet job on them, their growth could be astronomical.
  9. Preset is better than AWB. Just have a member of the community hold the reflector. Anyone can do it. Folded up, it takes up no space in your backpack. Believe me, they will have fun helping you. With an ND filter on your camera, your shots will turn out much better. And if it doesn’t work out, no problem. A relector only costs $10.00 at most.
  10. AWB is probably okay if you persist in shooting in direct harsh sunlight. Setting Kelvin manually to 5500K would give better results. ExpoDisc is probably fine too. But why don’t you take Joseph Moore’s (Joe12south) suggestion and shoot Cinelike D? It has more dynamic range than natural. Sharpening needs to be lowered to -5, not -2. Noise reduction must also be lowered to -5. Unless you prefer oversharpened, overprocessed video.
  11. It’s still important to keep in mind, there are at least a half-dozen other factors to consider aside from dynamic range when deciding whether or not V-Log is right for your project - noise levels, highlight roll off, tonal transitions, whether you’re trying to match with footage from other Panasonic cameras, how much grading you expect to be doing, whether or not you plan to deliver in HDR10 at some point in the future...
  12. The guy in the video you shared, the majestic fellow, compares it to a 1080p projector and it’s not as sharp. All that aside, weak black levels is enough to kill it for me. But for those looking for a high quality, low priced unit, I suppose it’s enough. Do you own a projector or an OLED TV?
  13. I’ve got no problem with how they achieve 4K, but apparently it’s no better than the 1080p projector it’s compared to. The real news is the low cost. Still, unless you’re projecting a 120” image, I don’t see the value in a projector. And then you also have to consider room size, the cost of a screen, and possibly a sound system. An OLED display will deliver far superior image quality if 55” or 65” is enough. I don’t believe the BenQ could hold a candle to the similarly priced LG C7.

    Lenses

Yeah, it never bothered me either. I actually like when the field of view changes when you pull focus, it gives a really cool weird effect.
  15. I don’t know. Sven Pape, who’s got an obscure YT channel called This Guy Edits, seems to love it. https://youtu.be/zoE6x4xQh7s I have however tried to do transitions just like Andrew, got the same message, and eventually gave up.
  16. at the bottom according to a few co-workers back at the office. pentax would be the very last camera Jordan would shoot video with.
  17. Release next week, huh? Oh, I see the announcement is next week. So sometime in the spring I imagine.
  18. @FoxAdriano I just finished watching a few of your documentaries - very good work! However, I notice that most of your shots are either in harsh midday light or in the pitch black interiors of huts at night. Is there no activity in the early morning hours or in the couple of hours before sunset? Also, I would definitely consider purchasing a strong ND filter for shallower depth of field. In a number of shots where the subject is not facing the light and the background is overpoweringly bright, a small reflector would enable you to throw more light in their faces while at the same time reducing the intensity of the background, like so: If you continue shooting with relatively slow zooms at tiny apertures with default sharpening, your videos will never look much better than those shot with a camcorder and your purchase of the GH5 will have been for nought. I would recommend investing in a couple of outstanding fast primes. Ditto for setting the camera on shutter priority and AF and allowing the camera to think for you. I realize this takes more time and effort, but the results will pay off in the end. You could also increase the number of subscribers to your YouTube channel with English subtitles.
  19. If you always shoot at native ISO on the GH5, use LED lighting when it’s dark and don’t strap your camera to fast moving vehicles driving on bumpy roads, there is no need to buy the GH5s. If you already own the GH5, consistently shoot in low available light and don’t mind having to use a gimbal, rig or tripod, the GH5s is for you. The wider field of view in C4K on the GH5s is sweet, but hardly a justifiable reason to put your GH5 on craigslist. I don’t think just using a SB to capture more light with the GH5 is the same as having a low light monster because I prefer working with compact native primes or the Veydras.
  20. @FoxAdriano It’s a compromise. If the card’s small, you’re more likely to carry it with you and take it out when you need it. If it’s too large, you’ll need to carry it in your backpack and you’re less likely to want to bother with it. A small card is pretty useless with wide primes, but since you use zoom lenses, the small size shouldn’t matter. Just zoom in on the card, custom wb, then zoom out again. You can place the card anywhere you like however - it will reflect light off of colored objects, making your readings inaccurate. The ground may not be such a great idea after all. Maybe your subject can hold the card? Edit: I just remembered that your PL changes aperture when zooming, but that shouldn’t affect white balance. Just annoying is all.
  21. Tonal transitions are smoother, there’s less noise in the shadows and highlight roll off is nicer when shooting HLG for rec709.
  22. Some cameras use pixel shift technology to deliver outstandingly detailed images as well. So not bs in my book.
