"Cinemascope Clouds" Baby Hypergonar 4k 2.35:1
Ian Edward Weir replied to Ian Edward Weir's topic in Cameras
Thanks for watching Lee! Cheers. -
They claim you can go as wide as 25mm. I have not tried yet. 28mm is fine even in 16:9. Size and weight is great, quality build is great as well as mounting. I think with a variable diopter, a lens hood to cut down on flares and shooting at f4 or f5.6, you can get a very nice image. I think it will do a good job at translating what ever your taking lens is in terms of character. I love that it is 1.75x so you can get the 2.35:1 ratio or 2.76:1. I wish it was multicoated and wish it flared a little less but it's a nice lens that has potential. I took this still with it. More to come.

Here is the first thing I shot with the Aivascope. Filmed on a GH4 in 4k 4:3 for 2.35:1 Lens used - Aivascope and Olympus Zuiko 38mm f1.8 as taking lens. +1 diopter for a few close up shots. I use a lens hood to minimize flares. I shot at f/5.6 Quick coloring in Film Convert. Super harsh lighting but quick real world look. Flares would also be totally horizontal if I were on a tripod but it's mostly handheld.

I wanted to share my new video I shot with the Baby Hypergonar. Olympus Zuiko 38mm f1.9 was taking lens. 60 time lapse over 3 months. Watch with a glass of wine before bed because it's a real sleeper

You just made him offer?
-
It's only going to get worse as time goes on. If this lens could be cleaned, I would offer him 1k. There is a chance it can't be opened up. I had one serviced and the guy could not get it open because of age or someone glued it. I have seen vinegar do wonders on lens mold?

It has issues but don't we all. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Bolex-Anamorphic-16-32-1-5x-for-M39-Leica-Mount-w-H16-RX-Ring-4089-1210/322304772616?_trksid=p2050601.c100574.m4253&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D37338%26meid%3D5aba7c731b164f54a50766dbc71c4329%26pid%3D100574%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D401205051543

I have used the 77mm to 75mm step down ring and have not noticed any vignetting with the CORE DNA. That step down ring is stupid rare. If I were you, why not just put the front of the anamorphic into the back of the CORE DNA and align / tighten down with hex screws? You will not hit the back of the CORE DNA if you have a 72mm step ring in front. I find it quicker and more stable just loosen and tighten three screws verses the screwing in. Both will work.

I have exported out a tiff sequence from Premiere and then you can correct one frame in Lightroom and apply correction to the rest. I don't know any other way. Cheers!

Me personally, I would avoid a lens with fungus unless you know you could clean it out. A trusted lens technician I know said to avoid fugues in lens to avoid spreading spores to the other lens. I don't know but if it's a great deal and you have lens in safe and dry area or case then go for it. I have seen many great samples from so many different anamorphic lens and adapters on this forum. Kowa's SANKOR 16C, Bell and Howell, Moller Anamorphot 32/2x are others lens to check out as well. Just go for the lens that speaks to you and you can afford.

Well... first off the -Hypergonar Baby 1.75x is going to be hard to find. You will have better luck taking a picture of Big Foot. The Hypergonar Hi fi 2 has a lovely cinematic image but is very cumbersome from what I hear and a beast to use. Might be worth it. -Hypergonar mini STOP 2x - There is a nice one on eBay now with a descent price. I almost want to buy it. Have to many. It's addicting. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HYPERGONAR-CINEMASCOPE-16-m-m-BENOIST-BERTHIOT-ANAMORPHIC-FRENCH-LENS-H-CHRETIEN/322250633294?_trksid=p2050601.c100607.m4280&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D37338%26meid%3D57e14076fc5b4103807253a616f6344e%26pid%3D100607%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D322250633294 There are also mounts available and videos on line as you know. I went crazy for two years until I got my hands on a Baby Hypergonar. I will be taking it to the grave. I'm sure someone here might dig me up for it Get what you can and use it and keep an eye out. Cheers!
-
Like Tito said, you want both. I have the Core DNA and use 86mm diopters in front to get close ups and macro shots. I have the 3FF-S and use 72mm to 82mm diopters in front of that as well.

Nature of Iran - Baby Hypergonar - 4k ultra wide 3.31:1
Ian Edward Weir replied to Ian Edward Weir's topic in Cameras
Thanks so much! That's the magic of the Baby Hypergonar :). I feel the same and can push the look in a more vintage or modern direction based on what my taken lens is. I'm old school to where I use filters and lens to create the look and color. I really don't due much with grading but crush blacks, add contrast and level out the image. Thanks Tellure! -
I be interested to see your setup once machining is done. I shot this with my Inflight with three different taken lens. Two vintage and one modern. Was slightly off on my height calculation. I had it at 62% and it should 57%.
-
Your lucky, one popped up. Get it or regret it. I have not seen one pop up for a long time. Cheers. https://www.ebay.com/itm/322230963843

I saw this a few weeks before you Almost bought it but I already have 2 and have the CoreDNA as well. It's very nice. I compared it to the Bell and Howell and it was much sharper and shines the same as the Kowa 35 1.5x. Jim at Rapido designed a front filter holder of 77mm and a back connecter for me. Works well but Hans set up is very nice http://www.rapidotechnology.com/products-services/customized-step-up-down-rings/adapter-for-kowa-lens/kowa-pa-35-in-flight http://www.rapidotechnology.com/products-services/rapido-front-filter-adapter-for-anamorphic-lens
