Because if they find something that works....bang....end of controversy, and then they have to go through finding the next thing to go on about...because that's how they make their money....perhaps the next innovation by Canon or Sony?...oh...for a second I forgot....they don't innovate...they wait for Panasonic to do that, and then they play catch up....at least Sony does...Canon does not even bother lol

+100...before I became interested in the GH5 I did not even know what a Vlogger was?...but is it sensible to buy a complex camera that one knows anything about and after 2 or 3 days rushing a review of a feature good or bad out there, because you're trying to get your piece of bullshit out there, before the next guy's...did this even exist 4 or 5 years ago....and how does it help the film making community....what it will do though, is make money for one guy ( who's business it is to attract more followers, be it blasting a product that they had no business making a public statement about in the first place) and for the people who actually want to create something (not sell their under informed opinions)....what it does for them?...It will stifle innovation on the part of companies like Panasonic, because why should you put professional features in a camera at great cost to your company, only for it to land up in the hands of a bunch of whiners....no wonder a Andrew is getting sick of this...I'm personally mystified that he's had the discipline to last as long as he has....

Nothing there without the low pass filter that I could not live with...the Veydras look lovely!! I have literally never touched AF on my GH4's since 2014 lol...who could have thought!!
-
The focus pull feature is actually the only time I could see not using manual focus...truth be told, the main reason I bought the Leica 12-60

Their batteries are rated at 5200Ah...GH4/5 batteries are 1860Ah...theoretically about 5 times + the power in the 2 battery pack Atomos...so the PowerStation is a nice sollution if you're not walking around with the camera...plus the batteries are hot swappable...and I already own a bunch of extra Sony batteries for my Shogun & Blade...as these cameras up the bit rate and processing game, so follows the power needs....the Shogun, which I record to, hogs power!!!...but you get Prores...so it's all good!....a handy solution for my personal needs...

Thanks for the precise math!...my speedbooster XL is Nikon mount, and you're right....it will go wider than the Ultra as one can zoom and note where the vignette disappears and you gain an actual 1/3 of a stop over the ultra too....really a no brainer when it comes to a choice of buying either the XL or the Utra
-
I'm contemplating the Atomos Power Staion for when I have it on rails and tripod with external recorder...the Shogun also devours batteries, and then I will have 2 extra GH 4 batteries for walking around...power consumption with the GH5 is definitely a step up over the 4 to consider as part of a complete system...

Ken...I think Panasonic will lose very few sales over this issue...as you know, in reality it's fixable for those needing AF...for those who hate this camera, you could put an Alexa sensor and processing at 4K in the GH5 body, and they'd still complain...because they made their minds up before the first image ever appeared online...I'm sure there are a few exceptions, but I think for the most part this already holds true...Jon...I can understand for your purpose that you may be on the fence...but then you already have the G85/80?...and the cameras are very close...but for anyone wanting to shoot anything, the IQ is a no-brainer...I can't keep thinking of the US election as a personal comparison to the GH5...to me with the election, the question that keeps coming up, WHAT PLANET DO YOU LIVE ON???...clearly not the same one I do!...anyway...it's the same with this camera...if someone hates this camera, I don't have either the verbal skill, nor the patience to persuade them...my only regret in this is that if Panasonic sells many of these, more money to put into the next great GH camera from them a few years down the road...

This makes a lot of sense...I think one will have to pick your battles with how you expose...for narrative, a light meter will always the preferred choice, but for what Jon does, in the case of the dark scene except for a sliver of sky, I would imagine the default would become to let the highlight blow out...so much is dependent using this exposure method on the actual scene.
-
Come on now Jonpais...you don't think the beautiful Vietnamese models in your clips agree to work with you only based on your sunny personality, do you?
-
Sorry....I should have clarified my question...I meant on aftermarket batteries...the GH2 never showed 3rd Party batteries in the battery indicator and with the Gh4, like you said....who needs spare batteries!
-
So 18 mm vignettes on the XL speed booster and Sigma 18-35 @ 18 mm and not on the Ultra speed booster, but it really makes no difference as the XL gives you a wider FOV anyway, so it seems on the XL you would simply zoom on the Sigma until you match the FOV you would get using the Ultra speed booster...
-
Does the camera "see" these batteries when you use them?
-
Sorry....can you clarify....did you buy a second charger because the GH5 charger is too slow, and if so, do you mind sharing a link to what you bought....also do you know per chance whether the stock GH4 & GH5 chargers are identical....I believe the batteries are...
-
Yes....with a slightly slower pan the motion will look great....one of the most overlooked aspects that's important in a camera, unless one shoots everything locked off....this camera is very far beyond the GH4 in every way! Ken...are your hands that steady or is it the IBS doing such a good job?
-
The GH5 is clearly a very different camera to the 4....especially in terms of color!
-
He suggests setting Zebras to 80%....then backing off on any highlights till Zebras disappear. In all fairness though...I don't have a GH5 in my hands to test...I'm just repeating what he posted.

All the attention on AF makes me wonder if this does not have something to do with the 24P revolution on the DVX100 and boom..."film look" and then DSLR's and M4/3's and real affordability for everyone achieving an image not that far off from S35 mm film cameras and suddenly everyone's a DP....overnight!....except they're not!...it took years of learning to change and clean lenses...switching magazines and checking gates after changing over each film mag...pulling focus, and then operating....and only a select few went on to become DOP's in a fairly large industry...but everyone went through the process of LEARNING how to work properly with the various aspects of the tasks the 4 to 5 people it took to just operate that camera had to be familiar with!...and now we are suddenly in point and shoot mode...and image be damned...if the DP ( tongue in cheek here!!!)...can't just point his camera at the desired subject and singlehandedly pull of Scorsese's several minute take in Goodfellas...well WTF Panasonic!!...what were your engineers thinking...clearly they were not thinking about the most important aspect to many about this camera which is AF!...the good news of course is for a few hundred $s the camera you want is out there... you can by an older Canon DSLR that will AF seamlessly and get down to the business of making your own dream projects...so all is not lost after all!!!
-
I own 2 GH4's....although they are "video cameras" as is the Alexa and all Reds and the Sony F 35...I have to say I'm completely baffled by your statement that the GH4 & now 5 looks "videoy" and "anemic"...you're kidding, right!....or is this where we're going next, now, that AF is getting exhausting?
-
Yes....but like AF you actually have to learn to use it!!???
-
Yes Ken...I tend to agree....and the weird thing is that a couple of negative GH5 threads have already been opened by the AF crowd...but as they don't get enough traffic I guess, they've now spilled over into the thread that was intended for people who actually want this camera...are excited to learn about and discuss it...perhaps time for a separate"only people who are excited about the GH5 and DON'T CARE about AF" thread....where those who've waited patiently since 2014! (me) can enjoy discussing and sharing in things re this camera instead of defending yet another level of outstanding features in the newest GH release. PS: Things must be way too quiet in the canon or sony threads...all those owners seem to be over here!
-
Well I think if you want to optimize autofocus, then shoot in 60P...that's what studio cameras do....and if you want to shoot sports or run & gun news footage...use it...but 24p was intended as a frame rate to mirror motion blur of S35 or 16 or 70 cinema film cameras, in which case you would pull focus manually like it's always been done, or get thrown of the set after your first couple of hours of your first day's shoot...anyway, there are a lot of people (trolls)? focussing (pun intended) more on autofocus than the image in the camera itself!...kind of like Trump going on about Obama wiretapping him, instead of what happened with Russia and the US election...LOL
-
Or if one's too lazy for that, you can just live with the look in the A6500 that makes the guy look like he has Jaundice...
-
Ahhh...well like a couple of Vampires coming across each other in the night, our posts sometimes give away where we've been!!

As with all cameras the operator has to overcome the obstacles pertaining to their particular shoot....if you get paid to shoot, you're not asked to whine about it....you're asked to do something....it's your job as the expert to go away and figure out how....if you choose the GH5 for that job....figure out what you need....period...the trailer below was for a movie shot on a GH2 on 2 lenses....shot mostly handheld....with a measuring tape and a PIECE OF STRING tied between the operator and the actor!..most people I've been on sets with through the years never went to film school....they are there because they caught a break...are intelligent and resourceful....and people can stand to be around them... I know it depends on what you use the camera for...but if I was going to go down to shoot a shipwreck at 60 ft underwater....I would plan for that....I would not complain that the splashproof feature on the camera is inadequate....if all you're capable of working with is an instimatic camera,...then start with that....this camera is very advanced and will take an investment in time....maybe months!....this is no more a toy than an Alexa or an F35 is....with one difference....for the everyday man, it is affordable and much more forgiving...this is a tool capable of professional work!...be a professional if you get paid to use it...
