  1. Thanks for the input Ken!...did not mean to hi-jack the thread all else!
  2. Same on all the GH cameras. you play back using touch screen.
  3. Thanks Ken...I've been messaging with Jonpais as I was considering getting the G85 for traveling and contemplated getting the Panny 12-60 as the kit...the Leica has to pay for it's hefty price, but I like the 12-60 focal length of this zoom and in kit form the Panny 12-60 seems worth the $100!
  4. Agreed Ken....but because of the lower contrast indoors to my eye the GH5 pulled focus rather seamlessly...speaking of pulling focus...wont have my GH5 for a couple of months but already have the Leica 12-60 because of this capability in the GH5...for narrative work, whether commercial product shots, or feature or television, just one of the examples of how ahead of the curve they are with the GH5! PS is that the Panny 12-60 in the AF demo?...and do you like it?
  5. Thanks much for the test Ken!...never use AF but clearly with the GH5 I'll be able to chase my 5 year old around with it!...absolutely respectable result on AF and the examples you used would certainly challenge a system...comes in smoothly and at a respectable pace...even better performance than in your house...though in your house you don't see it finding focus as clearly as in daylight
  6. Does look great...love the l080 180FPS in the beginning...never seen this clip before!
  7. Hi Ken...that looks really good!...and Max's test actually looks much worse than AF on the GH4...I would say it's probably his camera body...I won't get mine for about 2 months as it has to be brought to me from the US...I specifically bought from a small dealer though, and they agreed they would unbox the camera and test the basics like LCD screen, IBS,AF etc. to make sure the camera functions properly before shipping...the option of shipping it back does not exist for me...I did have to authorize opening the box in writing though...with the very large volume of GH5's shipping, and it being a technically and feature wise extremely advanced camera, one can certainly expect some glitches in some bodies...lastly...I'm glad Panasonic ignores the fanboy hate threads and whining and nitpicking that always seem to accompany GH cameras and seem to continue to strive for excellence in the GH cameras they release every few years...
  8. Though I would never shoot a wedding, I can't imagine taking the risk of using autofocus on something that's so important to the client!...It's their one day and the wedding photographer/video gets only one chance to get it all right...as previously stated I've of course never done a wedding...but for anyone directing/producing a project of any kind, the assessment of risk/possibility/outcome lies squarely on their shoulders...for me personally that risk would be unacceptable.
  9. I use his LUTS on the GH4...they're incredible and also work on your G7??...did I remember correctly?...but his luts are just to get you to a color space where you then start grading...he also provides a manual for settings in camera...exposure tips etc....this year Leeming, Andrew and Luke will get my money...
  10. I feel badly for people who are torn between this or any other camera for that matter based firstly on seeing great footage and then bad footage...if this is your criteria, then no film would have ever been shot on an Alexa...my advice to @Herbert Massey would be wait for Andrew's footage/review...he knows what he's doing, will give an unvarnished viewpoint of the camera and then you can make an objective decision re wanting one or not...this thread is becoming like a typical disaster movie where all the hysterical victims are heading for the exits first, only die off before anyone else in the subsequent stampede lol...
  11. A lot depends on how you use your camera/s...if a camera sits on a tripod on a set properly weighted down, and someone walked into it, it should hurt them....not the camera??...regarding the head though, there's no more important piece of gear after camera and lens IMO than the best fluid head and legs you can afford....unless you only shoot with the camera locked off....the reason thousands of $s are spent on tripods for cinema cameras go beyond the weight of these cameras...it's about professional looking movement and repeatability...as these small cameras improve in image quality (4K resolution for example) they amplify poor camera movement....in the same way focus becomes unforgiving, so does movement...ergo the need for a fluid head that transfers the movement smoothly....again and again....but...it still depends entirely on what you use your camera for....
  12. Lovely footage!...I think 709L is going to turn out to be this sleeper profile in the GH5....stabilization looks fantastic too....really beautiful example of framing, editing and slo mo...this camera has me excited!
  13. @pekoo Here is the first system I bought...no pan or tilt adjustment but very solid and most importantly allows you other camera options and rigs into the future (the buying inadequate gear and selling at a loss in the future quickly starts getting both time consuming and expensive)....I do know this is twice your budget!! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/861080-REG/Libec_LX7_M_LX7_M_Tripod_With.html I have subsequently added a second set of legs and the Miller head...one set of legs is midspreader for use on uneven surfaces and the other set bottom spreader which allows you to get lower....beyond that I use Hi Hat support to get lower. This combo of tripods are also rock solid for a slider/ dolly system and still somewhat "portable"...and of course I hang 30lbs of sandbags on each set of legs when doing a slider shot. What Jonpais said! I have a good friend from Estonia....she always reminded me of a Russian saying "I'm too poor to buy cheap tools!"
  14. Well if you looked at the very last line in my post you'd notice that I recommended a lower weight fluid head than mine My head is the DS-20 and B&H is listing it at $1311.00...incredible head though I'd say around the 20 lb mark, the 75mm bowl/mechanism starts flexing...for how little I move a camera, I still opt for this...weight's reasonable and you'll never replace the head...
  15. Saw your film on Peru!!...beautiful!...I would say must not resist!
  16. As no one else has mentioned this, could it be your camera?
  17. That's much better than I thought it would be...50G for 75 min is quite reasonable
  18. But of course you're right about film!...not a standard that's ever going to be equalled by digital, in the same way listening to a CD is never going to equal a good pressing of a vinyl album on a decent turntable...but filmmakers have, and can, and do make many other choices...Abrahams shot all of Cloverfield on a little hand held camcorder as that's the way the story was told...production value and design was still that of a $100 million plus movie...I filmed my wife's last dance performance on a DVX 100 I rented and to me it was absolutely lovely and the camera was perfect for the project....so again, with the camera choices we have today, in the sub $3000 range, the quality is ridiculously high and the choice is largely subjective...it's really down to nitpicking now...and although Panasonic cameras seem to draw the most criticism of any design,(perhaps i am a fanboy?) they are so far ahead of the competition with every GH design, it's almost laughable... LOL ....yeah...thanks for the great advice...maybe I should have my eyes checked...or alternatively I could just be satisfied with the results I get from it and not give a shit beyond that...which actually I don't!
  19. Well webrunner...that's exactly right isn't it and the cameras we choose are largely based on what we see and like and how they operate....and when I shoot on Vlog and grade it, and after some 15 + years around arrifex s35 you can trust me, the image I get does not say video to my eye...and I have never in some 150 plus commercials seen anything resembling video...more like little 30 second long Ridley Scott or Scorsese vignettes...you get the idea...short but stunning...for IBM...or Goodyear or Coco Cola or one 28 day Budweiser.....that's 28 shooting days...with a full rodeo and bull storming the camera...And none of those people producing that exquisite work, would look at a beautifully Graded Shot from the GH4 and feel it looks like video...because the image on it or a Sony or...Fuji or Blacmagic is so beyond anything we could have imagined five years ago, that now we are left with nitpicking..which is important because otherwise we'd have to buy them all....all of us... but the most important in spite of all this, is the camera that works for you or me not who makes them.
  20. For the price I'd say you can't go wrong with Miller....and if patient you can find one for half price on EBay....bought a very nice $1400 Miller head on eBay for just under 700...Satchlers are great too...but much pricier...start with a good fluid head and you will never replace it as they can be serviced too...you can get to expensive legs later! I know the head is way above your budget but it's for a 22lb rig....their prices drop or rise fast as weight capacity increases or decreases
  21. Color science...such a tired overused phrase...as tiresome as filmic actually....My preference in a camera is actually color fidelity...I don't want the camera to decide the image for me...I want the camera to reproduce the colors my eyes see...I'll change it to the look I want for whatever the occasion/reason...which is why I prefer Panasonic cameras...to my eye it produces what I see...not some fairytale version of what's there...and of course the other part that's most important to me....they work when you need them to...excuses about where cameras are today and what they can't do is just tiring and ridiculous....get a fucking hobby if any one of these cameras can't work for you!...
  22. @Ken Ross...is it possible to assign the manual lens focul length setting in the camera with IBIS to a function button...can you share how you access that adjustment in the camera?
  23. Very curious about this comparison Aaron!
  24. Excellent thread and your admirable response upon discovering the camera was stolen...I somehow doubt eBay is interested in this (insisting on serial numbers of items being listed) as it would cut into their bottom line!...still, will they not cover your purchase under their purchase secure policy...I mean stolen is stolen...regardless of whether you discovered this after 3 days or 3 weeks...one would think a multi billion dollar corporation who makes their money, based on the reputation of the "safety guaranteed" deal, would reward your honesty by first contacting the seller, and in the absence of that yielding results, Ebay ought to refund you!
  25. More GH5 skin tones to magnify 5000 percent because that's what clients really want??I will say his model is quite extraordinary!
