Biggest European dealer CVP 'in the dark' over new Blackmagic cameras
tosvus replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The lower end Canons can't do full 1080p raw though, correct? The 5D mk3 is great but well over double the price of the bmpcc. Lastly, I can adapt my minolta lenses to mft, don't think I can do that to canon ef mount. Of course for canon lens owners it is a different matter. -
Hi, I understand a GH3 book may be in the works, and was hoping for a timeline on when that may be available? Thanks!

In all fairness, it looks like a neat project. I have not looked at the options in the market but seems nice. It would have been much better if you just said this from the start! :)

A little early to judge the BM team yet, and it is funny that you are still waiting for the Digital Bolex. Looks like a great camera, but really, complain about BM's ability to deliver, when you have companies like Digital Bolex out there? -
Yes, really enjoing this Victor Mac and Antonn. Wonder if we will get more enthusiastic "reviews"/"impressions" from people with less than 5 posts!

Biggest European dealer CVP 'in the dark' over new Blackmagic cameras

Well, I bought my "b-cam" first, the GH3. Figure it will tide me over until Blackmagic get their production issues sorted. Btw; Andrew, any news on that GH3 book? I could need some pointers..... -
I'd be very happy with compressed raw internally, at 4:2:2 10-bit or better. (I THINK bmpcc will have this) I have never been impressed with twixtor footage, granted I have seen mostly ultra-slomo with ugly artifacting. Also, it is not cheap... what is the point in not wanting 60p in camera???

"Victor Mac", "VM-cinema", hmmmm........

Global shutter of the bmcc 4k version and agreement on lens mount that allows for use of most dslr lenses (either m43 or nex e mount) should be added to the list. Built in ND?
-
4k doesnt dictate sensor size. The new blackmagic 4k camera has a super32 sensor which is very close to aps-c in size.
-
Sorry, looks like our own Andrew Reid is saying this should work! Getting a speedbooster got even more tempting...

I don't think the difference is big enough, but I could be wrong. Should probably see if anyone has tried existing speedbooster for mft with an apsc lense that is equally wide.

Aps-c lenses will vignette with the speedbooster.

This is probably a really stupid question but here goes.... For Chroma-keying it important to have sub-sampling of 4:2:2. This is often discussed in threads where they talk about clean HDMI out. Is this something that is a constraint at that level, or when it is recorded from the sensor? In other words, can a Raw file still be 4:2:0, or would it always be "perfect". If the raw file can differ based on sensor/processing constraints, which of the Canon dslr's are better? (4:2:2 or better) Hope this made SOME sense...

Looks great and I wish them the best, but they have really spent waay too long on this project. At this point I'm considering getting one of the blackmagic offerings, and even with a somewhat spotty track-record, I'm guessing they will have their two new cameras out before the bolex. They still have some time to convince me though - as I just bought the gh3 and are way over-spent for the time being... ;)

If I understand correctly, Nikon Lens -> m43 speedbooster (for Nikon lens) -> Nex My guess is you will experience vignetting, but it may depend on how wide your lens is and what aperture you use it at as well. I have looked for solutions both ways, and nothing really positive came up on the web..

wow, this is cool - keep us posted!
-
Not sure if this was directed at me - I just pointed out that if it had been a "smart" adapter it would have cost about $600 rather than around $400 for a "dumb" adapter. PS: I'm planning on getting a speedbooster myself, but hoping they will make one for m43 that works with sony alpha/minolta maxxum lenses.

If you don't like smaller sensors, this may not be your cup of tea, but the Panasonic GH3 is by many considered the best "video-camera" under $2K. Quality is great, and while RAW is not available (yet..could be hacked down the line I suppose), it comes with very high bitrates out of the box, and does 1080 at 60p (good for sports). Personally, I just ordered it myself, and will down the line supplement it with either a bmpcc, bmcc or bmcc 4k. (I eventually want to do some green-screen etc and 4:2:2 material at highest possible bit per channel is essential then)

Interesting. How about "schneider -kreuznach variogon f1.8 12.5 -75 lens c mount"? The range would be better but I suspect too wide for good images on BMPCC

Thanks both of you. That makes sense. I was really coming at it from best use of resolution, practical usage etc, but there clearly are artistic/visual elements that come into play. I will check out "parker"!

Ok, let me preface this with the notion that most people seem to use these with 1080p dslrs/mirrorless cams. Now with Blackmagic coming out with a 4K camera for $4K, it seems an easier/better route to crop in the 4K material than buying expensive lenses/diopters and making it all work. Any thoughts on this? I suppose one problem is that you need wider lenses, but anything else?
-
Yes, clearly dumb. Pricing would confirm this also. canon "smart" speedbooster (for Nex) is $599 I believe.

Absolutely not an expert, but I believe I read somewhere that while it was ok to use mft lenses on nex (with heavy vignetting), it doesn't work the other way, so yes, technically it may work, but you are likely to get vignetting.
