  1. I wouldn't buy a 30mm f1.4 as well, the different between 1.4 and 1.8 in terms of light is marginal Can't be used on EF or PL mount. (if you're referring to the Fujinon MK series)
  2. The best hybrid camera ever? Better than a Panasonic S1H? I'd love to see the two of them shoot it out head to head.
  3. The Aputure Light Storm C300d I see used on C Stands all the time. The Aputure Light Storm C300d has a packaging weight of 25.5lbs, thus I'm sure the weight of the light itself is under 22lbs. But yes, if you're using it with a C Stand you'd definitely want to use it with a sandbag or two, and not try to get away with none. If you're going for something heavier duty than a C Stand then you're looking at the likes of a Combo Stand, which is even more expensive (and heavier! Thus much more expensive indeed to ship to Armenia). Edit: https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?trafficChannel=main&d=y&CatId=0&SearchText=combo+Stand&ltype=wholesale&SortType=total_tranpro_desc&groupsort=1&page=1 Hmmm... cheaper than I thought! Can be got for only US$200ish, with free shipping to NZ for a 3m or 4m Combo Stand. (don't bother with the low boy however. I'm tempted to get a low boy though as a mic stand)
  4. That is in Armenia, I suspect shipping would be a killer to order C Stands from B&H!! Just put "C Stand" into the search bar of Aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?trafficChannel=main&d=y&SearchText=C+Stand&ltype=wholesale&SortType=total_tranpro_desc&groupsort=1&CatId=0&page=1 See above!

    Fuji X-T4

OH!! Is that the first time a stills camera has offered a line level option? (hope it is pro line level, not consume grade "line level") Would rather they have supported timecode input instead.
  6. Hopefully Fuji does keep on updating the X-T3 after the X-T4 launch, keeping up Fuji's tradition of supporting longer than usual their older products. But yes I agree, you don't do a big firmware update announcement for your old product at the time as you release your new product to replace it!! At the very least, you wait a couple of months before rolling out that new firmware upgrade for the X-T3`
  7. Before tax: between zero and a million dollars After taxes: Much much much less than before tax Location: Auckland NZ Type of jobs that you do: Sound
  8. C Stands are rather heavy! You'd want to buy them locally. Where are you? Or do what I do, and buy Chinese C Stands direct from China. (not sure if that is a great idea currently though, you might be in for an extra long wait)
  9. The Panasonic AF100 had NDs with a MFT mount And of course E Mount is even more shallow, and has NDs in many cameras
  10. The car scene I was talking about was a self funded short film (the director was only a teenager too!). But I think he and the DoP pulled a lot of strings to make that all happen.
  11. On a linear basis, that is like 60 million for an 88 minute long feature film. Not an outrageous amount
  12. It is very impressive tech! I worked on a short film a few years ago shooting a car scene with the same concept, lots and lots of 4K plates being played on big screen beyond the car. But the background was always out of focus, and we didn't do any camera moves (or at least nothing beyond very simple ones).
  13. Is that how you got yours so cheap? 😉 Genius! Might try that out myself at the local store, definitely a lot cheaper to buy a yellow biohazard shoot than to buy a new Fujifilm camera. Thanks for supporting NZ's economy! 😉 If someone wants to create a new conspiracy theory linking them releasing the Coronavirus with China being desperate to regain control of Hong Kong and looking for any excuse to do so... I'm sure there is fertile material there! 😉 Just shared it for fun! (of course I don't seriously believe it, just was amusing speculating the craziest thing we could. Likewise neither does my Mother or my GF totally believe their own "theories")

    Fuji X-T4

That is some next level gear lust / gear addiction syndrome going on!

I was responding to someone who was doing weddings as their bread and butter. Personally I'd rate IBIS as more important for weddings than 10bit X-H1 to X-T3 for this purpose was definitely a sidegrade in my opinion (maaaybe even was a downgrade!)
  16. Maybe maybe maybe not. If you will all indulge me and put on your tinfoil hats together with me, I have a theory I wish to share.... My theory: China used to have an awful awful government policy called "the one child policy", this caused many issues, one of which is their current massive gender imbalance. Coronavirus is killing more males than females. Perhaps the Chinese Communist Party is secretly fixing one god awful bad policy with another (secret!) god awful bad policy? I mean, what could ever go wrong! Seems like a genius plan. My mother's theory: China is trying EXTREMELY HARD to contain the virus, so it won't spread too far. Very very few deaths have been recorded outside China. Why is this? So that in a few years time, when WW3 starts, then China will have an entire population who are immune to this supervirus. China will possess the most lethal bio superweapon there ever is to unleash upon their enemies! To the Chinese rulers, a few thousand deaths (or even a million or two) will seem like a very small price to pay for total world domination. My (Chinese) GF's theory: social security payments are going to become unsustainable in the future. This is true everywhere in the world, but especially so in China. Due to their "one child" policy and thus the demographics of their aging population. What better way to balance their budget than by killing off all the old people? Financial genius! Short term pain, for long term gain. China keeps the #1 spot for economic powerhouse forever.
  17. It is crazy how cheap the FS7 is now. I've sometimes ponder what if I'd got a FS7 instead of my Sound Devices 833, as they're selling cheaper on eBay (sometimes significantly so!!) than what I paid for an 833. Eh, distractions! The question though, does the FS7 still retain a high value in the marketplace for an owner op to own? (as in, will you be in demand and get work? Or will another camera come in and be the new fashionable "in camera". As if so, that would explain the big drop in value of a FS7! I'm inclined to think the FS7 still has a lot of life left in it however, thanks to its slow motion, 4K 10bit, ergonomics, etc) As for color science, there has been good work done to get the most out of it: https://www.provideocoalition.com/hack-alexa-lut-into-sony-f-cameras/ With the quality of care in some "hospitals", they'd probably have been better off at home. I'd be extremely skeptical of any statistics out of China. Read this, if you were not already skeptical of Chinese data, you will be now: https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/ez13dv/oc_quadratic_coronavirus_epidemic_growth_model/ Man, I've already got Ankylosing Spondylitis (form of arthritis, due to a messed up and overly active immune system), I really hope the coronavirus doesn't reach New Zealand!
  18. I'm talking about a hypothetical dream world where a fairy god mother waves her magic wand and you can have "any camera that exists already in the world". Would be a tough call between VENICE or an ARRI Alexa Mini LF (or maaaaaaaybe a Phantom VEO 4K? Only if it comes with an infinite supply of CFast cards)
  19. Heard of a lucky bugger who got an ARRI Alexa Classic for US$3.5K!!! :-o But usually they go for around US$7K ish, give or take a grand or so. https://www.eoshd.com/news/sample-sony-f3-footage-and-first-impressions/ That's what Andrew said way way back then. He compared it to: GH2: the F3 is far far better, especially if you don't care about miniature size RED ONE: I was seriously considering the R1 as being an option for me to buy, but after shooting with and working with the R1 a few times, I went instead with the F3. As not only was it massively cheaper, I found it was a much much better camera for me personally. Especially as I didn't care about 4K way back then (not necessarily of #1 importance in 2020 either?).
  20. If I could have "any camera" I'd have a Sony VENICE, or perhaps an ARRI Mini LF. And if dreams were free.... Do you have a regular need for greater than 14mm S35 FoV?? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1337244-REG/venus_optics_ve7520mftstblk_laowa_7_5mm_f_2_mft.html I've seen more clunky ARRI Alexa Mini rigs

    Fuji X-T4

Once you realize that using X-H1 vs X-T3 makes no difference to your bottom line, then it is easy to not be so pissed off at Fuji for "forcing you" to "upgrade" only a handful of months later. Rather if you want to be annoyed at anybody, you can be mildly annoyed at yourself for splashing out on a non-essential purchase. If I "gave my all" I might go out an splurge on an Aaton Cantar X3 recorder tomorrow, along with tens and tens of thousands of dollars spent on audio in other ways. But would I get that money back? Never. In fact, I might maybe even earn less, because for the type of bread and butter work I'm doing currently my Sound Devices 833 suits it better than a Cantar X3. In fact, it could be argued an 833 is going to earn me no more than if I'd stuck with the Zoom F8n / Zaxcom Maxx I had before. So I definitely understand the point of "giving your all, to get the best, as a point of professional pride". Basically did that myself when I splurged out on a Sound Devices 833, just it is important to keep this mindset in check, as there is no limit how deep you can go down this rabbit hole! Next think you know you'll be filming weddings with a Monstro on a Ronin... (these people really exist! But rare, and weddings wouldn't be their bread and butter) I think upgrades should be a bigger leap and further spaced apart. I've actively encouraged people not to upgrade from say a Zoom F8 to F8n, as they should either do a bigger leap (like me to an 833) or wait longer for more than just one upgrade cycle Ditto cameras, I don't for instance think a person should go from a Nikon D7100 to a D7200, it should be a bigger leap in time forward such as to a D7500. Or a smaller time leap, but with a jump up their hierarchy as well, such as a D7100 to a D500. To give a Nikon stills example. Yes yes yes
  22. It is very normal on this forum! Is it normal in "real life"... no. I dunno man, I feel a cocaine addiction would've been cheaper in the long run.
  23. Oh god no, please don't!! 😂😂😂 Don't we all! I vote for Andrew to instead spend his last month's worth of rent payments on buying and reviewing a Panasonic S1H! He might be homeless, but at least he'll be homeless with a S1H and GFX100
  24. I haven't watched "Fear the Walking Dead", and has been ages since I watch "The Walking Dead" (even then, only watched a season I think?), but does it look "worse" due to changing from S16 to Alexa or does the main reason it "looks worse" is because the per episode budget has been slashed??
