JWSound had the same thread last week, a guy asking why his Lectrosonics etc products were not perfectly immaculate straight out of the box? This isn't unique to BMD

I have 100x more trust in Fuji delivering the goods with any speculated camera than for Canon to do the same.
-
That's an extremely high risk strategy however. Would you want to put thousands of hours into a youtube channel which YouTube might later heavily punish or even outright delete because you were trying to exploit the system in an unethical manner?

Fake subs don't buy merch! You could suffer from a steep drop off if you stop regular updates.
-
And there are movie actors making tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars, from that perspective the "big" YouTubers are underpaid? He was already a millionaire before he founded his channel, and he has a great channel educating and entertaining people. He deserves it.

Look around at secondhand deals, especially if you don't mind an older light (lots of people dumping them and moving to LEDs) then incredible deals are to be found. Last weekend I got a Kino Diva 400 4 Bank for sub US$200

Or Fuji's own excellent cinema zooms (18-55mm T2.9 and 50-135mm T2.9), which if you buy in X Mount you're locked into only X Mount. But if you purchase it as MFT then you'll be able to use it on ANYTHING! (which is S35 mirrorless... if the adapters come out, such as a MFT to X mount adapter. FZ and E mount adapters already exist for the Fuji MFT cine zooms)

The best sub $1K hybrid camera for filming is: a) if you can live without IBIS, the Fujifilm X-T3 secondhand b) if you love IBIS, the Panasonic G9 (it's been on sale for sub $1K brand new) or a secondhand Panasonic GH5
-
Get a focal reducer and you are now sharing the same mount And a focal reducer can be got for only a hundred bucks, nothing at all really
-
Yes, some adapt MFT to S35 E Mount for instance.
-
Totally wild 100% guessing here, but doesn't the studio version do that?
-
The Z Cam version of the BMPCC4K is two grand. The E2C which is sub $1K is kinda like if the GH4 sensor was put into the E2 body, so you get all the goodness and power of the E2 ecosystem but then "held back" by the GH4 sensor (while the full E2 for $2K has the GH5S/BMPCC4K sensor in it).
-
And for people who adapt manual MFT lenses?
-
A camera doesn't have to be equally good at both stills and video to be a "hybrid" There is for instance the Nikon D750 which was an amazing stills camera, and while the video side was "good", it wasn't anywhere near at the same level. Likewise the Panasonic S1H has amazing video capabilities as "the best in the world" for a hybrid camera, its stills performance is "good" but isn't at #1 however.

yes

Don't buy a S1 then, buy 2x secondhand GH5 instead. As it sounds like you don't have the budget for a new S1. And the GH5 is still one of the best there is. Spend a hundred bucks more and get the Panasonic G85 instead.

They've got a lengthy discussion of this over on reduser, and my first comment was exactly what you said! Should have included the S1H and Z6, the best two hybrid mirrorless FF cameras today for filmmaking
-
If you're looking to it just to do slow motion on the cheap then check out the RX10 as well, from memory it does slow motion bursts for twice as long as the RX100 version does

I wonder how many fewer cameras Canon would have sold to filmmakers if not for MagicLantern? Half?
-
Smart man! Haha, that analogy is hilarious! I like it Anyway, you're right those changes would make the BMPCC4K/6K better for working on film sets. However you forgot there are many many people who are buying Pockets for casual shooting or youtube etc They're not rigging it up and working with crews. The DSLR-ish form factor of the Pocket works better for them than an Arri Mini / RED "box". And then you've got "film sets" which barely justify the name, small indie stuff with just a few people. The kind of shoots which were using a 5D/60D/etc before BMD came along. Same there, maaaybe they'll add an external monitor and an external battery. The DSLR-ish form factor works for them.

Out of curiosity, I quickly looked up Nikon / Panasonic / Fujifilm / Olympus, they're all around 3 or 3.5 stars as well.
-
I assume the G85 is the better one? A good example of how "full frame is better" is not always automatically true. MFT is better than people give it credit for.
-
I remember when the first ever Samsung Galaxy Note was released and it seemed HUGE! Now that screen size (5.3") is "normal", or even smaller than normal! Then again, my smartphone back then was 3.5"
-
Only until the S1 mk2 / Z6 mk2 gets released a few months later....

Won't happen while the RED lawyers are alive
