Panasonic S1H review / hands-on - a true 6K full frame cinema camera
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
If you're an indie film crew, trying to save every penny, then why not? Especially if you already own say a Panasonic GH5 / Panasonic S1 so you already have a lot of experience shooting Panasonic cameras and know your way around them blindfolded. -
Panasonic S1H review / hands-on - a true 6K full frame cinema camera
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
That is the normal low side of the S1H rental pricing for per day. To have it PER WEEK is crazy talk. Guess Panasonic was disappointed the S1H didn't catch on even though it was super duper awesome, likely because their price was too high. Now they're thinking if we just get it into people's hands... that will be enough to convince them to buy it! Possibly so Wish I could rent a Zaxcom Nova for a week for $99! haha Probably is what would be necessary to convince me to change over from my Sound Devices 833 -
Pentax already tried and failed that approach. Is a few years later, but I think the traditional DSLR folks still won't accept that approach. The first place to try out the "mirrorless F Mount body" approach will be with the Nikon D3600 as a cost saving measure. Based on people's reactions to that, then maybe Nikon will try out another F Mount body like that or not.

Sony FS5 II announced with 4K 120fps RAW recording at NAB 2018
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The Sony FS5mk2 price has come crashing down, you can get it now for US$3.5K! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1469171-REG/sony_pxwfs5m2_b_pxw_fs5m2_xdcam_super_35mm.html/BI/7759/KBID/8285/DFF/d10-v21-t1-x954134/SID/EZ This is exciting for me, because it means the days of buying FS5mk1 cameras on ebay for well under $2K should be arriving soon 😉 Because the current secondhand prices of FS5 don't make sense when for another grand and a half you could just get yourself a FS7 body instead. This news likely indicates a FX6 can't be too far away, and they're wanting to clear out the FS5 bodies before then. Hope the FX6 does stick with S35 so that it is cheaper, but unfortunately it seems like the FX6 will be FF -
Go for the Panasonic EVA1? That has 4K DCI 60fps 10bit internal. https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/01/31/panasonic-eva-1-3-0-firmware-update-adds-4k60p-h-265-recording/

Rent the Lumix S1H for $99/week https://www.newsshooter.com/2020/01/23/rent-the-lumix-s1h-for-99-week/ Sadly I'm not in the USA 😞 As that rental price is insane! You could rent one of these for a couple of weeks, shoot an indie feature film in a fortnight, and only have spent US$198 on camera rental fees! -

Got a laugh out of some of us 😉

Fuji almost killed Camera Conspiracy! By almost releasing the perfect camera! That would mean the end to his channel, what could he ever talk about??
-
Hard to design lenses with big focus throws for manual focus AND quick autofocus as those are kinda different goals? That's why cinema and stills lenses are different? Also you'd be certain to lose the ability to swap lens mounts, which is a pity, as that is one of the best features of the MK Zoom lenses. (and is what would allow you to use them for 10+ years of your career! Across many different camera bodies)
-
Here is the Philip Bloom talking about the Fujinon MK Zoom Cinema Lenses: https://***URL not allowed***/philip-bloom-shooting-with-fujinon-mk-zoom-lenses-on-the-pocket-4k/ They're awesome. This is why Fuji needs to bring out their own cinema camera to use with it!

Great news, Fuji is bringing out a cheaper standard prime lens (a cut down 35mm f2 lens for only US$199) : : Body is $699, the kit is $799
-
Let's talk also about a great lens they've included with this camera! Yes it is "just a kit lens", which means it will be a little shit and is a slow f3.5, getting even slower as you zoom in. But.... look at the major pros for it: 1) Powerzoom, handy for smooth zooms in video 2) OIS, to make up for the lack of IBIS! 3) starts at a fantastic 15mm! There isn't a wider kit lens anywhere else. 15mm is especially good for vloggers, when you're holding out at arms lengths you're always wanting a wider lens or longer arms. (or both!) This is a great first lens to include with the camera, this could be a sleeper hit within the YouTube community. Think about it, would you rather buy a Canon M50 or a Fujifilm X-T200? Then once you've sucked them in with their first camera, it is much easier to get them to buy next a X-T30 instead of a Canon M6 mk2 (or a X-T3 instead of an EOS RP, etc.... or a Fujinon Cinema Camera instead of a Canon C200....). A little part of me is thinking I should upgrade my YouTube vlogging Panasonic G6 camera not to a Panasonic G85 but a Fujifilm X-T200 instead?? Hmmmm..... I wonder how low the price will be for the X-T200 kit. Jordan said it has a 3.5mm input! Nice. Has good quality 120fps FHD slow motion. Autofocus is good too he says.

That is very small, internal trimming of videos. Much better I'd hope than using a smartphone for it. (at least my cheap crummy one is sh*t for it) Imagine knowing out some quick 1x1 BTS promo videos for a feature film you're shooting, then being able to upload that instantly to FB/IG/etc

HD has a 30 minute limit. Why have a limit at all??
-
Drat! Limited to HD. Probably has a bit of a crop too when "digital gimbal" is turned on? Oh well.

He keeps on being so surprised that "Nikon is giving us raw!" People forget so quickly that it was Nikon who gave us first an HDSLR And also Nikon were first to give as an affordable 4K DSLR!
-
Look at what Fuji has had between the a7Smk2 and mk3: X-H1, X-T3, X-T4, and more! Sony is the new Canon
-
Just the thing every Social Media Influencer needs, square videos! I'm joking, but also I'm serious. Is nice to see Fuji thinking about these random small details so that their X-T200 will be a hit with the massive vlogging crowd.

Sharp eyes! Does indeed look like an adapter, yup this is using 2.5mm mic input
-
The Zoom F4 barely costs more than an H6 As big as the improved is from an H4n to an H5/H6 (which I agree, is quite substantial!), the gap from an H5/H6 to a Zoom F4/F8n is much much bigger! To give a camera analogy, is like going from an a6600 (H4n) to a Sony a7mk3 (H5/H6), sure that is a big leap forward. But nothing at all like the leap from a Sony a7mk3 (H5/H6) to a Sony FX9(F4/F8n)!!! Except in this case the gap in price between an H6 and an F4 is wwaaaayyyy smaller than between an a7mk3 and a FX9
-
Would also be fantastic for those great Fuji 18-55mm T2 and 50-135 T2 cine zoom lenses! Yes, you can buy them in X Mount but then you're stuck with only that mount. Better to get in E Mount, and be able to swap around to FZ / MFT as well, and also adapt MFT to X Mount. Sounds convoluted.... but it makes sense I swear!

We'll still be waiting in 2030! Indeed, the price is so so so high (especially they longer they wait! If it had came out when first announced then this price would have made sense. But we've got the Z Cam F8 8K camera and others coming along like maybe the Fuji XT4 or Panasonic GH6 with 6K at much much lower prices). At least adding 10bit now makes the camera more appealing. (and other little tweaks like using full HDMI) But still, Sharp is a brand new player in this market segment, they have to be aggressive with their pricing if they want any traction with their sales.
