  1. Might that threshold be too low? Someone who is brand new and posts unconventional opinions which are not popular ("CANON DSLRS ARE THE BEST!!1") could perhaps pass that -10 threshold without too much trouble. Yet I think the forum would benefit from that diversity of (unpopular) opinion? Make us question and defend our core beliefs, check if they are indeed still true or not? (maybe Canon DSLRs are now not so bad after at all? Heretic!)
  2. Lots of reasons still for the GH5/GH5S, however unlocking the potential in the G9 should put a lot of price pressure on the secondhand market for the GH5/GH5S ? So still good news even for non-G9 buyers
  3. $1K might seem like a lot, but I'd say for people who are spending $5K+ on just the camera body itself, then it won't be a major factor in deciding which to go for as likely it is a business purchase and as such $1K is somewhat trivial in the grand scheme of things.
  4. /blink three times if you need help....

    FX for cheap?

For "easy" VFX on the cheap, then check out HitFilm https://fxhome.com/hitfilm-pro https://www.facebook.com/groups/426174967509293/
  6. Not just at the start of the shoot, but also any times there is a shift in lighting during the shoot.
  7. damn, 8 years ago? You got a steal! However now in nearly 2020.... I'd say £15 is fairly close to what it is worth
  8. It also doubles as a door stop! And a boat anchor.
  9. Define "affordable"? I reckon the Sound Devices 833 is pretty affordable.... ? At least I thought it was compared to the cost of a fully loaded Zaxcom Nova! :-o But if you want a truly dirt cheap field recorder which MUST have AES then a secondhand Roland R88 might be found for a song. Alternative a Zaxcom Maxx or Nomad can be found dirt cheap secondhand now that Nova is out. Ditto a Sound Devices 788T
  10. If someone really wants APS-C and doesn't mind changing brands, then Pentax has really nice pancake primes ;-)
  11. Creeping closer to being shipping: https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/11/14/atomos-atomx-sync-first-look/
  12. I saw the thread title, instantly thought "this is going to be an interesting thread...." *click* Immediate disappointment as I realized we're not going to be talking about sound recorders.
  13. It definitely isn't the same as a lens effect! (and some of those shoots are using top class lenses, hundreds of thousands of dollars worth) And yeah, I'm mostly just glancing at the monitors, but yeah some of them I get to see months/years later at the premiere. (like I went to a premiere last night, although I can't recall what was the setup! If fog was even used? Heck, and I was on that film's lighting crew too! Probably was used? I dunno, the filming was a couple of years ago)
  14. VK has been making bold/provocative predictions for years now, sometimes they have an element of truth to them, sometimes they don't. 43rumors (and they other sites) are not ranking "their own rumors", but rather they're rating the trustworthiness of their sources. Which is a handy factoid to have! So we don't give the same weight to a wild brand new rumor from an unknown anonymous stranger as they do for someone who has been repeatedly accurate in the past.
  15. I've worked on ultra low budget / self funded films / documentaries, which are using haze on basically every single shot they do.
  16. The Panasonic G10 already exists... So they won't call it a "G10" but something else instead.
  17. I thought those tax laws ended in the EU recently, or will be ending soon ish??
  18. Once you've placed your lav mic, then you've basically got no control over its placement whatsoever (unlike a boom mic you're swinging which you can tweak during the take constantly). Not a good thing for a cardioid, as you'll suffer worse from when your talent goes off axis. Additionally cardioid lav mics suffer more from wind / handling noise. It is very very very very rare to see a cardioid lav mic in use. Meh, you could say the same about many other products/brands though! For example Sound Devices is a very well respected brand, yet they had a few stuff ups with their First Generation of the MixPre series. If you're buying new then I think you probably can't beat if for value for money in this price bracket. To do better you need to go secondhand, such as Sony UWP-D11 or Lectro 200 series
  19. Hardwired is always a good backup to have!
  20. Am going to get one myself soon, so I can report back some personal findings. One of my good buddies who is also a local sound mixer, really likes it himself. Such as? I can't think of anything notable about Deity Connect Wireless which has been reported as an issue with 2.4GHz Remember "2.4GHz" is simply a frequency, and there are many many MANY different ways to implement how it is used. It is like saying "UHF is bad" just because you had a few bad experiences with a UHF system, or heard some reported, doesn't mean all UHF is bad. Don't get a cardioid lav mic
  21. The really sneaky way I've seen is them post an innocent enough thread.... so nobody thinks it is suspicious, as there are no fishy links in it. THEN.... they go back and edit it later to insert in links! That adds a lot of work though for the moderator/Andrew Is perhaps better this system, only a handful are getting through, and let use users handle spotting and reporting them.
  22. Sub $400 isn't much of an "investment" at all
  23. They dropped down to US$12K new for a set I think? But no, this is a mk1 lens
  24. On a somewhat related point... I purchased a Sony CineAlta PL lens myself recently! Will be picking it up this week
  25. iPurchased an iPod Touch just to use with my Zoom F8n, because I'm an Android man but it uses an iOS App Exactly, YouTubers will eat this up, which will then influence a zillion more people to get this as well. Will prove to be very very popular! Slow motion is often good for drone shots anyway
