  1. People have already been limiting their gear (or other bad stuff) in response to getting around Zaxcom's patents. The list is long: Tascam Sonosax Lectrosonics Sound Devices JuicedLink etc
  2. That is absolutely insane, should I buy that instead of the Sound Devices 833? ha!
  3. A very rough breakdown of the space in terms of the ratios (not completely accurate, the sound proofed studio for instance probably would take up much more space than the repairs desk, even if the interior of it would end up being a similar ish size): A fifth of the space would be for a small bed (wellll.... I am talking about me, it would be a big bed! I'm a tall man). A fifth of the space would be for a mini recording studio which is fully sound proofed. (for those wild lines on set! Much much better to do it on the spot, than to try to arrange a time in the schedule of a busy busy and important actor) A fifth of the space for a comprehensive repairs desk / analytics / spares. Two fifths of the space for storage of all the gear needed for a feature film, big commercial, or a tv series shoot! You can see why I'm worried the truck might not have enough space.... And yes, I have thought about living in a truck, I follow this blog: https://frominsidethebox.com/ However the truck I shared an image of is by no means big enough at all to both live in AND have all my sound gear! Nope, couldn't possibly happen. (I barely have space in my apartment.... is a mess, overflowing with gear! And this is much much bigger than truck, and I have much much less gear than I would in my dream scenario!)
  4. Zaxcom says... NO! Sorry Anaconda, you can't. Not unless you spend mega mega bucks on Zaxcom wireless
  5. Yes, Xeen isn't about a change in image quality but a change in mount / ergonomics
  6. I noticed today as well that the individual lenses had dropped in price by $500 each, I think that is because the new Xeen Carbon Fibre lenses launched at the same price as the old ones. Who'd want to ever buy them now if they were not on sale??
  7. You're so frugal even in your dreams! You're still counting your pennies.
  8. Got lots more videos up on my YouTube channel from the Pro Audio Showcase 2019 Trade Expo! And many more to come. (sorry about the bad audio quality.... was a very very noisy location! And in hindsight I went way way overboard with the DNS-2 NR, you live and learn! Never had used Cedar in such an awful location before, now I know to not be so heavy handed with it in this particular circumstance)
  9. Hmmmm...... if that is so.... Then swap that Zoom F4 for a Sound Devices MixPre3! (and I say that even as a big big big time Zoom F Series fan! Love my F8n) I couldn't decide! Thus selected the Fuji which would be good for most work, but then if you really wanted that extra stop and a bit of light for a particular shoot then you've got the Sigmas as well! Please excuse me while I go list everything everywhere that ever has been made. As purely for my SOUND PACKAGE I'm going to need a truck to carry it all: Yes, this truck. This exact truck. I'm not even joking. My only worry? Is that it might be too small!
  10. Got lots of videos from the 2019 Pro Audio Showcase (our local trade expo here in Auckland New Zealand):
  11. Sony FS7mk2 (I'm very tempted to write the FX9.... but I feel like that would too massively impact my lens choices :-/ Panasonic Varicam LT and EVA1 was tough to ignore as well, but they don't have the flexibility of the E Mount. Ditto UMP G2) Sony a7Smk2 as B Cam. (not the greatest mirrorless camera, not in this rapidly changing marketplace, but for easy workflow matching the FS7, perhaps the most "practical" choice?) Sony RX0mk2 (as the "C Cam" for those action camera shots) Fujifilm 18-55mm T2.9 + 50-135mm T2.9 Tokina 11-20mm F2.8 Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 + 50-100mm f1.8 Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS Sony 50mm f1.8 OSS Sony 18-110mm F4 Mitakon Zhongyi 50mm F0.95 Mitakon Zhongyi 35mm F0.95 Zillions of accessories: gimbal, EasyRig, Dana Dolly, tripod, VCT-14 shoulder rig (I love my SmallRig one, video coming up soon with it in use today!), monitors, etc etc Fully loaded up Zaxcom Nova with all the goodies (internal RX, and the new micro sized TXs with DPA 6060 lavs, URX100 as well) + Cedar DNS2 + Sanken CS3e + Sanken CS1e + Sanken CSM1 + 2x Sanken CUB-01 + Sennhieser MKH60 All the lights Aputure makes. Plus a billion other things. btw, I'll note the title said VIDEOGRAPHY. Thus I wrote my list with a very strong bias there, I am assuming this is mostly for work where I'm doing it solo or only with maybe max five other crew. (such as director / producer / camera assistant / sound / gaffer) if I was to put together a dream "filmmaking kit" then it would be very very different, I'd be selecting PL lenses, tossing up between a VENICE or Arri Mini, etc etc
  12. He is a guy who up until a month ago had never even thought about filmmaking. And he is considering buying a C300mk2?? Or C200, or even C500 When he already owns two very capable DSLRs for filming with. Yes, I 100% think it is appropriate to say "whoa man, slow down!" and enjoy what you have at the moment for a while first. I think everyone knows I'm a big time gear obsessed nut case, who loves loves obsessing over the latest toys! But even I know when is enough is enough, and maybe you should not be focusing so much "what is my next gear purchase?" (although as I'll be buying a Sound Devices 833 any day now, I know I'm being the biggest hypocrite! "Do what I say, not what I do") That's good to hear you're leaning towards that camera. If 60fps isn't super important to you then keep in mind the original C100mk1 as well, if it has the DPAF upgrade. As they go for practically nothing on eBay. Here is one for US$1,299 (or "best offer", so I'm sure you can cheaper! Much much cheaper if you are patient with the right auction instead. Or just get this one from Adorama, which as you know is a big store with a solid reputation behind it): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-EOS-C100-Cinema-Camcorder-with-Dual-Pixel-CMOS-AF-Feature-Upgrade-1168004/233326917232 Am glad you've found my posts helpful and thought provoking! :-) Even if I've been a bit critical at times....
  13. More and more NLEs though are supporting reading it, such as DaVinci Resolve. The Sony PMW-F3 is even cheaper, dirt cheap ?
  14. I dunno, one single potato is VERY CHEAP! Which helps improve its value ratio of cost to quality.
  15. Think you've missed my point as well, that what is "the best" (such as DXOmark scores) is not as important as he is making it out to be. Especially if you're just subjectively splitting hairs over which image or another is "best". Remember the OP had "not even thought about video" until a month ago. So a "soft 1080 image" or "cropped 4K" is the least of his worries! He should instead be focused on just making as much content as possible, to fail and learn from, to improve on his big weaknesses first rather than relatively minor technical details. And if is to buy anything, have it be anything *but* a new camera body in the next couple of years. Let it be some quality wireless, or a few lights, or a slider, or a fluid head, or.... well, as we all know, the possibilities are endless! I'd encourage you to slow down and think about what you're doing, but if for whatever reason you're doing madcap fast paced shooting and you really really want to ditch the DSLR, then perhaps get any one of a C100/XC10/XC15?
  16. No it should not, just set your recorder to the same FPS Sure, you could do that as well. But the main point of using the MixPre3 would be for its synced TC which is record triggered by the Z6 over HDMI.
  17. The FS7 has already been selling for mid $4K ish on eBay now and then for a little while already before the FX9 announcement https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=sony+fs7&_sop=15&_sacat=11724&Brand=Sony&_dcat=11724&Type=Professional&_stpos=90721&_fcid=1&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1
  18. Don't need to use it if not using Aux LTC The whole point of TC is it makes syncing easy in a snap, almost no processing required to do whatsoever by the computer, and very accurate.
  19. In the context of the market they're in (such as Rycote etc) then that price doesn't strike me as especially unusual.
