Or a Sony PMW-F3 for similar or less! :-o I 100% agree, we're living in a crazy time!
-
What kind of shooting are you doing? That really determines the need for a B Cam or not. Fair enough then! (although it could be argued selling the Ninja to finance a GH5 would've been the better move...)
-
Is crazy but you can find a Panasonic EVA1 now for around sub US$4K ish on eBay (and the Panasonic Varicam LT sells for sub $10K new now)
-
Do you already own the Ninja? As if not then the combo price of your very cheap GH4 is still waaaaay more than a G85. And not too far off the cost of a GH5 (pretty similar really). An a GH4 + Ninja vs GH5?? The decision is a no brainer! I'd get the GH5

Please deal with this account: https://www.eoshd.com/comments/profile/45696-tompeter/ This isn't someone who "barely interacts" in the main forums, but has zero interaction with other members in any other threads. His account purely exists to spam the For Sale Subforum. With all his links promoting hotdigital-international (& others) eBay accounts. (just done by an automated bot I'm sure) Perhaps if he was posting really good deals then his spamming would be tolerable, but they're not. Every time you might click through to look at the auction you just think "meh", they're never even close to the best deal you could get on eBay. And the volume and which this bot account posts to the For Sale Subforum is so high that it spams the forum with unnecessary posts, diluting down the actually relevant For Sale posts made by forum contributors here.

If you're going to spend the extra money for an external recorder then just get a Panasonic GH5 instead! The cost anyway for a GH5 is around the same as a G85 + recorder combined. And you'd be much happier off with the GH5! Even if you get a GH4 instead of a GH5, then a G85 is still going to be much cheaper than a GH4/recorder combo! (or heck, probably still cheaper than a BMPCC4K) And usually I'd rather have a G85 than a GH4/recorder (definitely rather have the BMPCC4K instead). I just don't see the point in using an external recorder with the older Panasonics (unless you happen to already have it, thus it "doesn't cost you anything"). A significantly older sensor, and no IBIS, when compared against the G85 Another G7? Or perhaps a G6, if you don't mind it being "only 1080" and an older sensor. But the price difference is small enough, I'd say just get at least a G7.

I too wonder where has andy lee gone? I loved his contributions! Does anybody know if the film @andy lee made has been released yet? Although yes, I agree with the other comments, in this day and age it would be better to buy the G85 instead of the G7 as the G85 is quite a bit better and only costs marginally more.

I've been complaining off and on about Tompeter for ages now :-/ ? Makes the entire subforum somewhat useless to visit, as such a large chunk of it is spam.
-
|Have a play with it yourself while fiddling around with the TX/lav in your hands, and listening at the same time, just to triple check it isn't a problem with a dodgy lav connection.
-
You should be able to get a secondhand G85 for that price instead

The author starts off his opinion with: "If I was to guess, and this is just pure speculation" So take that with a very big grain of salt! Especially as I'd rate the chances of Canon sharing their mount as being slim to none.
-
Yikes, that is a bad track record for you with them! Front pocket, or rear pocket? And the lav mic wasn't getting unplugged? The entry level G4 is no upgrade over the Sennheiser G3, which itself was in my opinion inferior to the Sonys. And the new Sony UWP-D21 should be a handy upgrade for anybody immersed in the Sony ecosystem of cameras as well already.
-
And just look at how that went for Canon, made them #1! I guess doing a massive tech push at just the right time could be the way to do it, then cruise along later on to reap the rewards. Time will tell if Sony timed it right to grab #1 spot in the new mirrorless era like Canon did for the DSLR era. ah, how did I miss that, 12MP to 17MP

Yeah wasn't the update to the LX100 mk2 even more lame than the latest RX100 update?
-
Seamless uploading to Instagram would be a good feature! It is a feature set that Thom Hogan (I HIGHLY recommend his excellent website: http://www.bythom.com/ ) often bangs on about. That camera companies need to get better at frictionless sharing! Is what will help people prefer their dedicated camera vs a quick snap with their phone. (this and the "buzz buzz" he does about Nikon needing to release a proper line up of DX lenses!!! Sigh. I wish they would. Thank goodness for Sigma instead!)
-
Power hungry (won't even boot up with some V Mounts, as its power draw is too high!) *AND* a very heavy heavy beast
-
I agree, is really sad it never shipped! An 18mm FF equivalent FoV in a pocketable camera would have been EPIC!
-
Nearly four grand for a small chip camcorder, guessing you're earning a healthy amount from your sports filming?
-
Eh? Did they remove it at that point? I thought it was just the hotshoe they removed then. Yeah I do wish this newest one wasn't f2.8 but was instead shooter range with a faster f1.8 or f2 lens like they had beforehand, a whole stop faster is nothing to sneeze at
-
You can get a Mavic Pro for sub $800 (more than we could dream of in pre-HDSLR days!) Gimbal for sub $500 (more than we could dream of in pre-HDSLR days!) BMPCC4K for sub $1.3K (craaaaazy!) Total cost for these three items? Not even $3K

Oh for sure, there are many many many many people like that! But also there are many people who do make money from owning one. So one can't just say "you don't need a RED" as a blanket statement. But it isn't like that, you can't always just take money from the camera dept and give it over to the script instead. (additionally, throwing more money at a script doesn't necessarily make it better either!) In fact often the camera department has utterly no control over the script. Hypothetically speaking if a director comes to me with a crappy script, I can't just say to him "hey instead of shooting this with my RED I'll shoot it with a GH5 if you come back with a script that is awesome!" I usually always choose any RED camera (except the R1) over a GH5 as an A Cam to film a feature with, if I had that option. And for many indie films, even ones with really teeny budgets such as say a hundred grand, then the camera body rental is going to make up an extremely small portion of the overall budget. So why pick a GH5?
-
The cynic in me thinks Sony was just pushing specs hard to get itself established, that they were looking to the long term, where they are now going to sit back and reap in the profits from their past R&D without reinvesting too much back in while they switch over to cruise mode
-
16mm-ish? No, the G7 (especially with a focal reducer) is nearer to Super 35mm than 16mm. And if you're on a tight budget then definitely don't go with an a7 mk1 just simply to "have full frame" Get yourself instead a BMPCC4K or X-T3 (or even X-T30), with a focal reducer. This. If you haven't tried out F0.95 lenses on MFT then don't bother jumping systems yet If someone does lots of photo work then a Nikon D800 can be picked up for a song! Or even better a Nikon D750 for not much more
