  1. Been waiting for this for a long long time, it would be the perfect vlogging camera to have with me. Except for the price.... which is well over a thousand bucks: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1496248-REG/sony_dscrx100m7_b_cyber_shot_dsc_rx100_vii_digital.html Ah well never mind, I'll patiently sit and wait here and in another two or three years I'll pick one up for a bargain on eBay ?
  2. It could be argued I don't *NEED* my smartphone. I could if I must live in the world of landlines, faxes, and posted letters. But is it beneficial to me to have a smartphone? Of course it is! Ditto "owning a RED". They don't need it. But they find it beneficial for their work/career/etc, that is pretty easy to understand.
  3. High speed and large sensor are quite often conflicting goals. Thus you'll need to either go UP IN PRICE, or compromise somewhere in some area of "quality". Half a dozen models is still nowhere near as many models as Blackmagic / Sony / Panasonic / etc have.
  4. I'd happily swap my BMPCC for ANY RED camera. Yes, even a RED ONE M!! ha So yeah, if anybody has a RED ONE they just can't get rid of... ship it to my door and I'll give you back my BMPCC! ? Getting a little more serious here, if we ignore the RED ONE (ugh! Such a heavy and power sucking beast) for a moment, then if in some alternative timeline of history where I have a long lost Crazy Uncle who dies and leaves me a camera (which could be anything from RED or Blackmagic!) and I have two choices that can choose to go down the RED or the BMD timeline... then which world am I going to choose to live in that my crazy dead Uncle has gifted me? Always the RED. Yeah, I even prefer the timeline of it being a Scarlet MX vs the timeline when he dies and leaves me his newly purchased URSA Mini Pro G2. (although that was a close call! An Epic MX or Raven kit would have made it an easier choice to prefer)
  5. Oh I can believe it! You missed out on the good stuff then!
  6. RED...... the next Leica?
  7. Hopefully once Sigma released a full range of affordable Sigma lenses for L Mount that will leap frog the L system ahead.
  8. I do agree that "kinda of feels too good to be true" (ESPECIALLY from Canon! They're not going to give away the farm). However, the state of the industry means they need to start consolidating their DSLR range and one option could be by merging the 7D2 and 80D series together with a higher priced 90D that sits in the middle between those two lines. I expect Nikon to do the same. For instance we saw the D7500 move a bit down market from the D7x00 series in the past, by losing a card slot. The next D7600 might carry on this trend in the D7x00 series, it will remain as Nikon's budget priced semi pro DSLR DX camera, but will be positioned such that Nikon can abolish the D5x00 series? With the D500 above (with a very slow refresh rate in bringing out a D550 update in say 2022) and the cheapie D3x00 entry point below it. Although this is just one option of how Nikon might restructure it. (they'll restructure their FX range as well, the D760 will replace the both the D750 & D610 sometime in the next 18 months. And all of the FX range will see a slower and slower refresh rate of updating to newer models)
  9. Yikes! Let's have a moment of silence for those 1st ACs who are working with these lenses wide open at T2.5 but still need to deal with a very shallow DoF.....
  10. I see RED is passing the buck along! "Not their fault" RED: the gift that keeps on giving (also, new videos are up from Jinni as well!)
  11. https://www.facebook.com/VICE/videos/345786596351138/UzpfSTEwMDAwMzA5NTc4ODA1ODpWSzoyMzgzOTkyNTc4MzM3MDQ5/ @webrunner5 will approve the choice of camera used by the director! ?
  12. Very easy reason why: PRICE!! The Panasonic S1R is US$3.7K At $2.5K the S1 is a *lot* cheaper! And there are heaps of other tempting cameras around that much lower price point of US$2.5K, or even sub $2K. Such as Z Cam E2 / BMPCC4K / Sony a7 mk3 / Panasonic GH5S / GH5 / Fujifilm X-T3 / Nikon Z6 / etc We're really spoiled for choice! If someone wishes to spend much less than what a S1R costs. And if a person does want to spend somewhere around that US3.7K price point that a S1R costs, then they've got plenty of other choices there as well to tempt them away, for example: The Sony FS5 is cheaper (and is MUCH cheaper if buying secondhand on eBay) Also did you know the Panasonic EVA1 has dropped in price to sub $4K new? That is only marginally more expensive than the S1R (cheaper than the S1R when you consider how much it would cost to make the S1R a bit more fictional!). And the EVA1 would put the operator into a totally different class of work than owning the S1R, that the ROI from an EVA1 would undoubtedly be better than owning a S1R. And if you carry on looking up, the Canon C200B has dropped to sub $5K new as well, which from a professional working perspective is not really that much more than an S1R either. I could go on and on. But basically the Panasonic S1R is too expensive for both amateur and semi professional filmmakers, unless you first and foremost are going to get a lot of value at of its stills capabilities as well (perhaps you're an ex Sony a7R, Canon 5DS, or Nikon D810 shooter etc). If you are a photographer hybrid who can justify the expensive of a stills orientated S1R then sure, go for it! Although personally I'd probably rather get two cameras instead (is always handy to own two! A back up for each, or for multi cam shoots), which each dedicated to the task at hand. (videography or stills) Such as a Nikon D810 + Z6, or a Sony FS5 + a7R mk2 would be a waaaay nicer combo to use for shoots than a single Panasonic S1R! (and yet, the total cost would be very similar for any of these three options from Nikon / Sony / Panasonic )
  13. It's not that hard to figure out (Z Cam has far less models than say Panasonic/Sony/RED/BMD!). Z Cam has: Various 360VR cameras (ignore if you're into VR). E1 (their oldest MFT camera) E2 (their most popular one at the moment) E2C (a cut down low priced E2) Various as yet unreleased cameras which are S35/FF (plus a GS 1" camera) They have been very good in looking after the E2, it can now do 160fps 4K!
  14. Note that the X-T30 is a different camera to the X-T3 The X-T30 has a lot of the goodness of the X-T3 but at a much lower price (with the trade off of a few drawbacks such as no 10bit and bit shorter max record times etc)
  15. But with the expected life cycle of the EVA1 EF then we'll be stuck with the EF mount for a shockingly long time sadly
  16. I did suggest a number of times that they should use Kinefinity's KineMount, which basically anybody could use as it is exactly the same as the PL mount but at a shorter distance out. Then both Kinefinity and Z Cam customers would benefit from having shared accessories/adapters. Rather than inventing yet another new "standard" This is a motto I wish every manufacturer followed! Hopefully the next generation of Canon C series will be RF mount. And it was a big fvck up by Panasonic to make their EVA1 an EF mount camera. And I wish BMD had gone with the interchangeable mount system earlier than the UMP series.
  17. They left money on the table, they could have priced it at $199 for the challenge!
  18. Exactly that, but 4K instead of 2K ;-)
  19. Just batch edit. Click click click done. The edits are all consistent that you want to make, the same for all.
  20. Interesting, by far I picked the X-T3 the most! With only a6500 being my preference a couple of times
  21. PanaOly, that is a new one for me! I sense you had a missed opportunity to create "PenLei"
  22. Is there an Olympics for stripping (& getting dressed again) that she can enter in? Not sure how else someone can pop off two shots seconds apart with the model wearing two different costumes.
  23. By the time a company provides this at an affordable price then we'll all be wanting something else with even MORE People's wants are unlimited. Yes and yes, but must be full sized HDMI!
  24. I use Google Drive all the time myself (as in every week from shoots I'm on), but then again I'm just sharing relatively small amounts: the audio files
  25. Clearly the Zoom F8n is the best choice for you on a tight budget (or even the "best" option full stop, with no budget limit, if you have a very high priority on ambisonics). Or a Zoom F8 secondhand if you want to save a few dollars. You could even consider a Zoom F4 if you want to go with 4 phantom powered inputs, rather than a requirement of 5 (although the F4 still allows you to record 6 channels at once). They're the same when it comes to pre amps. However the F8n is overall a much much better design field recorder for the aspiring location sound recordist, which it sounds like you are. No limiter engaged whatsoever (so long as the track doesn't peak) is better than any limiter. (Which is where a safety track could be beneficial, as it gives you a track which the limiter never kicked in) A good limiter (like on Sound Devices / Sonosax / Aaton / Zaxcom / Zoom F series) is better than a bad limiter (like on cameras / Zoom H series / Tascam DR series / etc).
