Got a Fujifilm X-A5! Used to have a Fujifilm X-F1 (twice!) and a Fujifilm X-Q1 some years ago as my small pocketable cameras. But otherwise Fuji hasn't really been on my radar due to a lack of any mirrorless cameras with great video (although Fuji is well known for their great cinema lenses!). However all that has changed with the Fujifilm X-H1 / Fujifilm X-T3 / Fujifilm X-T30! Unfortunately the Fujifilm X-A3 is not one of those, but those other Fuji cameras did get my thinking about the Fujifilm X Mount family of mirrorless cameras.... and checking out what deals there are on eBay. Some of them are surprisingly very very cheap! Waited patiently for a fantastic deal to pop up, and when I saw this Fujifilm X-A3 available for only US$115 I just couldn't say no to it! Then I got a 25mm f1.8 lens for it for only US$34

Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p

I'd argue that 24 megapixels is a sweet spot for resolution for most people, don't need the 30 megapixels of the EOS R But if you do need extra resolution then Nikon is ahead and winning here as well, with the Nikon Z7! -
Click on it and you can watch it on the vimeo website itself

https://instamic.io/products/instamic-pro Interesting new firmware update! Now records with timecode, thanks to being connected to a Tentacle Sync E. Unfortunately with its short battery life of 3hrs (and no mic input, and somewhat thick size, are the other cons. Plus the biggest con of all: no way to monitor the audio life) means it definitely want find widespread usage in my world. However it might be a handy tool for some people to use in some rare instances, as the so called "Pro" version is waterproof! Thus it could be handy to keep around a couple of these to pull out for short segments during the day while shooting in the water if you don't already own any waterproof transmitters.

Clearing up the utter bull**** in this Tony Northup Panasonic S1 video
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Maaaaaaaaybe the processor in the GH5 can't handle anything higher? Look at how there is an identical sensor in the Terra 4K / GH5S / BMPCC4K / E2, yet they each get something a bit different out of the sensor -

I'd be mildly surprised if Panasonic makes an APS-C L mount camera. Could be too much of a size/price threat to their MFT cameras! But makes sense for Sigma to do it (if Leica lets them), because Sigma has ready to go a great collection of APS-C lenses. I do quite like my Sigma 60mm f2.8 for MFT that I picked up for a song. A nice portrait lens in a very small size/price. -
Yeah I worked with an EX1 a lot ages ago, and a little with an EX3. Now and then I do check out the prices of an EX3 on eBay, and kinda to my surprise they're still fetching a half decent ish price (waaaaay less than new though!). Certainly nowhere near close enough to a "what the hell, spure of the moment indulgence" purchase.

Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Bet there are more professionals still using APS-C/DX Canon/Nikon than there is in the entire market of Fuji and Pentax users. Nikon is trying to get everyone to move over to a new mount, Z Mount. They're not going to massively dilute those efforts by muddying the waters to introduce yet another new mount. No, DX mirrorless will use Z Mount. We've long past the peak days, yes. But there are still thousands upon thousands of thousands of people doing this and buying entry-mid level starter cameras / upgrades. -
Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The DX mirrorless is 99.99999% certain to use Z Mount Nikon won't make the mistake of having different EOS M and EOS RF mounts. APS-C market is still far bigger than any other ILC sensor size. -
Did it, I don't recall it saying "CineAlta" anywhere on the camera body itself? Maybe it got mentioned a little bit in the marketing for having 24p And for sure, for its time the Sony EX3 was very capable of and used a lot for low budget cinema shoots. It is easy though to dismiss it from a 2019 perspective, and forget the context of the time.

Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Oh Nikon could treat DX mirrorless lenses the same way they've treated DX lenses so far (i.e. almost completely ignored it, aside from a bunch of a consumer grade zooms, otherwise very little) and probably still get away with it! However, DX cameras are by far the biggest selling category of cameras for Nikon. Thus Nikon would have to be the biggest fools ever to ignore them completely now when doing the change over to mirrorless. -
Price war on the G85 and X-T3 please

IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Sony absolutely dominated with the FS7 because they were the first to offer 4K at that price point in camera. (which wasn't a mirrorless/DSLR) Then on top of that they also had it doing 4K 10bit 60fps internal! And 180fps HD continuous slow motion. When it comes to specs nothing could compete for a very long time. Arguable there is still NOTHING which can compete. The C300mk2 is a competitor, but doesn't match (let alone beat) the Fs7 on specs. Ditto the EVA1. The URSA Mini Pro gets close indeed, but then you have to deal with the lower base ISO and the brand name of BMD can never compete against "Sony" This is why the FS7 was #1, as it was first to market with some really great specs, and it remains #1 as nothing matches it yet. Most netflix productions do not need raw! And the C200 is missing out some key features like TC, or multiple SDI outputs Don't forget Varicam LT / S35 for yet another new mount to throw in there..... PL mount! (although you can swap them to EF, so at least matching with the EVA1. But you're left with this big divide which can't be easily crossed when you're got new blood coming up with mirrorless Panasonic cameras, where can they go to? You run a very high risk they might then leak to other systems) Still a pretty lightweight package! Only the Panasonic EVA1 can really compete against it as an even smaller TC cinema camera -

https://ymcinema.com/2019/02/08/panasonic-eva-1-new-firmware-update-does-the-new-h-265-codec-improve-image-quality/ EVA1 got 4K 60fps 10bit internal (but 420) You can record 4K 60fps externally though. -

What would "force" the FS7 to be "replaced"? It won't be 8K any time soon. The FS7 is a very solid camera which I bet will be a work horse for years to come. I wouldn't rent a C200! Would be nothing less than a C300mk2 or FS7 (with XDCA back) or EVA1 -
Is kinda strange they also didn't upgrade the Sony FS100 with a "Sony FS1". Something even more low budget than the FS5

Waiting for Nikon to release a "Z60" DX mirrorless to take on the Fujifilm X-T30 and Panasonic G95 etc, then Nikon will have a very attractively priced sub $1K camera to fight against everyone in the sub $2K market as well. -
Wake me up when they've dropped another 50%! I'd rather take an Olympus EM10mk3 or Panasonic G85 (or wait for a "Fujifilm X-T300") It is the natural risk everyone takes as an early adopter! None the less I've seen many angry posts from early adopters on social media. When it really should be no surprise to them whatsoever.

Huh? Which ones of those wouldn't you call "cinema" cameras! And some of those cameras have been out for years and years now. Yes, ARRI dropped the ball with audio with the Mini. Because they were not expecting it to be such a popular A Cam. However not such a big deal in a cinema camera, I do lots of shoots with an Arri Mini which don't even have audio in it. Thought we're discussing "cinema cameras" here not "broadcast cameras"? ? ? It is better to operate the AMIRA with an assistant. And it has the same sensor in it as all the others, definitely gets used in "cinematic shoots". For instance I did a feature film which was shot entirely on the AMIRA last year which is now in the theatres next month. Yes, it has found more success elsewhere. But tv shows like "The Crown" and lots of Netflix shows (which want 4K) have been shot on the Sony F5/F55 I'd still rate the F5/F55 as excellent "cinema cameras" (the hint is in their name from Sony: CineAlta)

Especially if you're trying to juggle focus with a manual focus 0.95 lens!!
-
This shouldn't be something the H5 does automatically, you should be setting this setting yourself.

There isn't a massive difference in light between f1.7 and f0.95, what perhaps a bit more than a stop? (especially if you compare T stops instead of F stops)
