It was normal though for the cheaper G series to "kinda" leap frog the older GH model (before even the new GH model came out). The G6 for instance is in "some ways" "better" than the GH3 And the G80 for most of us is generally going to be a better choice than the GH4! Why couldn't a G90 not only match the GH5 in a some areas but even in one or two ways exceed the GH5?
-
Not such a terrible choice, as arguably the Nikon D750 was the best ever 1080 DSLR made.
-
The lack of a tilting screen for on a gimbal can be kinda solved with a very flexible thin HDMI cable (not the normal kind, but you can buy these) to an external monitor (such as the new Atomos one!)
-
"APS-C to MFT" adapters do not exist, in the sense there is no generic "APS-C mount". Rather you have "Nikon F to MFT" or "Canon EF to MFT" or etc adapters to MFT, which would all work just the same even with an APS-C sensor behind the MFT mount.

Was mindboggling that Panasonic gave the cold shoulder to their own Micro Four Thirds mount. Would be a good idea, means Fujifilm doesn't have to invent a new battery style for their cameras. Keeps the number of SKUs down. (and makes Fuji fans who own both APSC and MF systems happy!) It is an underrated feature! I just purchased a camera today largely because it was cheap and had a selfie screen. Because MFT is the most versatile and open mount available. My guess is it will happen, but not in 2019! Still far too soon.

I'm sure I've read about in the past about companies trying this before? But the problem is the costs to do this well on a small scale are so high, that if you're pushing up near in cost to say a secondhand FS7/UMP, then it becomes pointless. As a person would just buy a mainstream camera instead. It exists. Is called the "Panasonic EVA1"
-
If Panasonic truly has killed off their low priced "SLR Style" camera range then I'll be sad ?
-
Yes, Nikon along with Fujifilm (just purchased a Fujifilm camera btw!) are the two new players I'd love to see enter the digital cinema market with their take on a C100/C300/FS5/FS7/EVA1 level camera.
-
Adding a wide angle T2.9 zoom to complete out their MKX zoom range would be nice. But yeah, also say some T1.4 (or at least T2 or faster) primes in their MK range for mirrorless mounts would be nice. As at the moment there doesn't exist any cinema prime lenses for mirrorless mounts with interchangeable mounts (aside from Veydra, who might have sunk?).

Well, much more than just the sensor of the XT3, you want the processor power to of the XT3 which gives us 4K 10bit internal Knowing Canon, I just feel very doubtful they'll be giving out 10-bit 4K 422 to SD in C100 in 2019 (maybe 2023... ha!). And ProRes RAW? Nope! RF has only just barely been launched in the stills world, I reckon it will be another year or two at least until we see it in a cinema camera from Canon. (their world moves slower than stills consumer world does at Canon)

Atomos Shinobi (monitor only version of the Ninja V)
IronFilm replied to AlexTrinder96's topic in Cameras
There are a few other rare ones which do it as well, but F5/F55 are the major mainstream common ones which come to mind. -
Surely not??? The G85 is still being sold new and marketed. And the G9 is at a totally different price point, and aimed at a totally different market.

I feel like the C100 line up is more "outdated" than the C300 line up, so logically the C100 series should get the update first? But who knows, this is Canon, not sure how much sensible logic applies to them.... Yeah, I can't believe Panasonic was so dumb to abandoned their faithful GH series users when they brought out their "replacement" to the AF100 We can likely blame this on infighting between the consumer and pro divisions :-/
-
Much more curious to see where is the Panasonic G90, it has been a while! A newer sensor, full size HDMI, plus 120fps HD + 4K 60fps (even if all only 8bit) would be very nice.
-
Won't happen. If a C100mk3 gets announced in 2019, it will still have an EF mount, and it will be similar to a C200 but without any raw option what so ever A Fujifilm cinema camera would be the dream, especially as they've had a close connection with the cinema world for years with their range of cinema lenses, and their recent push with high performing mirrorless cameras. But I'd only rate this as a dark horse probability. Not impossible, but unlikely. They don't even have to risk it by going with the brand new L Mount alliance! Simply an identical Panasonic EVA1 but with a MFT mount (like the JVC LS300) would be welcomed by many people Many years ago there was talk about ARRI making a special camera only for educational institutions, at a much lower than normal price, but only 720P The Z Cam E2 shares the GH5S sensor which is already a little larger than normal for MFT

Camera Gain setting question and cheapest recorder with automix
IronFilm replied to Martin Matěj's topic in Cameras
If you're running your levels very low then you'll be in post pulling up high the inherent noise floor in your equipment as well. However, with modern pro audio equipment there is much less of a risk in "recording too low" than there was in the distant past. (not like say when they had to recorder to tape or 8bit, and had only a very narrow margin between peaking and the noise floor below) Yes, the Zoom F8n is the cheapest method if buying new. Although the discontinued Zoom F8 would be even cheaper if buying secondhand. However if you're going to be very very heavily relying upon Automix (perhaps for a regular live segment for instance) then you should consider instead the Sound Devices 688 with Dugan Automix -
That I'm not disputing, but your narrative of how it is happening can differ wildly depending on a person's perspective that they're looking at it from. Plus it LOOKS better! I reckon the VMP is kinda ugly, or at least distinctively "cheap".

The C300 is S35 The smallest 4K 10bit S35 camera (not counting using a speedbooster) a handful of months ago (prior to the likes of the X-T3 and such being released) would have been the Panasonic EVA1 But I fully agree with the gist of the point you're making overall I'm sure I've seen MORE awful video footage out of Canons than any other camera brand! (but that is purely because Canon is/was more popular with newbies)

I started a similar thread here on EOSHD: https://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/27570-is-a-sony-fs700-still-worth-buying-in-late-2018/ It is Canon's "half raw", so not really truly 4K raw Plus the workflow is a bit uglier And the C500 in 4K overheats / is noisy

Sub $1K I bet if you're a keen bargain hunter.

Atomos Shinobi (monitor only version of the Ninja V)
IronFilm replied to AlexTrinder96's topic in Cameras
Just buy a Sound Devices MixPre3 and stick it under the camera. Am not normally a fan of the MixPre series, as I feel the Zoom F series are just so much better value and better featured. But for a OPC cameraman, then the MixPre3 makes a lot of sense. Digital AES is what you're looking for here. Some cameras already can do it, like the Sony F5/F55. -
Once you add on a recorder capable of this, you'll find that the Z Cam E2 would have been a cheaper choice.

A Pro-Brexit person would have a completely different interpretation though of what is happening. For instance, it is exactly zero surprise that if you hand over the process of leaving the EU to a bunch of people who are firmly Pro EU, that they'll completely muck up the process? Nope. On this though we can fully agree If the current Green Party in Government in New Zealand has their way... then yes, maybe.

My gut feeling when I first saw the post was "SPAM", but yup, the account history confirms that!!
