  1. $20K?? They're sometimes going for closer to a third of that price.
  2. Surprisingly, even two years later, I think the Panasonic G85 is still the best sub $1K camera to buy secondhand. You need to push up beyond the $1K price barrier before you find better cameras: X-T3 / GH5 / BMPCC4K (each around US$1.5K ish) I'll likely pick up for my vlogging a G85 myself on eBay in 2019 when I find a tempting enough price.
  3. Depends on what you mean by "prosumer"? Sub $3K 8K ILC? Then no. Not in 2019, or even 2020
  4. I'd feel sorry for those who thought the "5D isn't good enough" and waited ten years for an "affordable" (!) so called "full frame" 4K raw camera to come out!
  5. I wouldn't be too surprised if after the criticism of C5D's early tests they tightened up their game. But as the comments from even their recent tests show, they're testing cameras without really understanding the camera itself and not setting it up for getting the most out of it. They shouldn't be testing them without getting intensive input from owner ops of that particular camera first, ideally on the shoot itself. This. And this. Yup, I'd rate the CML conclusions as waaaay more useful than C5D's.
  6. More manual controls is a really nice thing to have, it speeds up usage of the camera and provides more certainty of the settings. Ditto having a top LCD, it is really nice to see all that info at a glance. One of the top things I prefer about using my girlfriend's Nikon D90 (even though it is a much worse sensor) with its "semi pro" body vs my consumer like D5200 when doing some casual photography. Certainly if I was a serious photographer then I'd be looking for those little things which make a big impact on the shooting experience such as a top info display like most semi pro and pro bodies have.
  7. Goofy?? I think you mean "retro"? Maybe to an actual retro dinosaur from that generation who knew the real thing then it appears "goofy"?? I have only recently paid more attention to Fuji, and only very recently took a serious look at them. And I found it pretty easy to get a handle on their range of models and the options (Wikipedia + B&H made it easy to get a quick overview of them!). And now I'm feeling like I might buy soon a Fujifilm X-A3 (or perhaps the older X-A2 if I find an extreme bargain for one on eBay. It was either that or a NEX-3N etc as a "drinking camera", but then I got sucked in by the temptation of Fujifilm).
  8. I agreed. But as for lenses, if you get the Fujifilm MK zooms then you can use them on everything from that X-T3 all the way up to Sony F55 / VENICE / Kinefinity MAVO / etc Still impressive that Nikon has caught up (and arguably beat) Sony's third generation with Nikon's first generation. (sadly the same can't be said about Canon, even though they had a better running head start with their EOS-M, which will probably now be killed off in the medium term)
  9. I think you meant "since the GH4" (typo: *GH3) (typo: *GH2) (typo: *GH1) At least Sony fanboys are not as annoying as Canon fanboys I reckon Fuji has been making great strides recently, and deserve their extra attention and praise recently. I'd love to watch a video about why you ditched the a6500 for a G85
  10. They did???? Where?? I don't understand why XQD is not fast enough?? For instance the FS7 writes 4K 60fps 10bit to XQD cards. Only if you want to stick with the same lens mount, doesn't matter if you only adapt or rent lenses. But yeah I kinda agree, and is why Panasonic should have released an EVA1 MFT!!
  11. C5D has to keep up their past strong track record when it comes to unreliable/conflicting/confusing dynamic range test reports! ? It just wouldn't be normal them if they didn't have something like that.....
  12. That guy Clayton Burkhart is arguing hard in the comments to make a case for the Sony F3's dynamic range. https://www.abelcine.com/articles/blog-and-knowledge/tutorials-and-guides/s-log-and-the-sony-f3---part-1-on-the-charts
  13. A few reasons: 1) there is a lot of hassle/overheard/uncertainty when it comes to re-selling items 2) for shorter length projects (such as adverts) then it makes no sense whatsoever to buy an expensive camera just for that only to sell it again immediately afterward, and even for longer projects then fanatically it might still not make sense because of the deals they might get ("3 day weeks" are very common, sometimes even crazy things like "1 day weeks" are offered for long term projects with good clients) 3) people are not renting items purely just for the physical item itself, but also for the service which comes with it. This is key for many productions.
  14. Whoa, a DOZEN bodies? How? What went wrong with them? Was surprised how the a7R mk3 was overheating on the web series I'm working on currently, as I really did think that Sony had resolved the overheating with generation mk3? But I suppose not.
  15. Yes, and I expect they'll stick with S35 for another generation or longer. The craziest wildest thought? Maybe Fujifilm are planning on making a high end cinema camera themselves? They've got popular cinema lenses after all, and the Fuji film stock was used for decades on features.
  16. I reckon it is more likely than not the next Varicam will be S35
  17. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/889683-REG/Canon_CN_E15_5_47mm_T2_8_L_S_SP.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/889684-REG/Canon_CN_E30_105mm_T2_8_L_S_SP.html Neither of them have the same useful range that the Fujinon 18-55 has! (although I suppose you could try to argue it isn't too far off? Perhaps) However, they're both much much much MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE!!! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1246187-REG/canon_1714c002_cn_e_18_80mm_t4_4_compact_servo.html Waaaay slower! Over a stop slower. Not that it is a bad choice in a lens, it is very appealing for sure, but it won't cut it if a person wants T2.9 Same problem. Big difference for some people between T2.9 and F4
  18. I think you're misunderstanding my point. It is not that they MUST stand far away, of course the guests on the red carpet can come as close as they wish. But I'm sure there are also guests who stand at a sub optimal position an extra foot or two too far off, or just don't stop and only give a throw away comment as they pass by. That is what I was meaning. Yes, I do agree with you under those conditions. But for your average joe they'll get a much better result with a reporter's mic in shot than trying to handheld a shotgun correctly just out of frame. Been there... done that! As I've done this for a laugh one friday night while drinking with a buddy.... we made this: (he did all the directing/editing, and ALL THE ACTING! Both of them! And I did sound/lighting/camera all by myself. And did twice the amount of drinking to make up for the lack of his drinking)
  19. I don't think so..... but if a person wants to remove that variable then just use a bodycap instead
  20. With a shotgun is held in front of a person for an interview then it is even more important to have it on axis at the right time than a reporter's mic (that is one of their benefits, they can be used be less skilled people such as reporter's). So @webrunner5 you might have got this back to front @Anaconda_ if the reporter has the experience and is on their toes, then a shotgun can make sense. (& it seems they're been kept behind the barrier so can't get close for interviews, thus a shotgun could be a smarter choice here) Plus also pointing to red carpet events is a bit meaningless, even "big stuff" can have poor equipment and inexperience.
  21. Sounds kinda spammy coming from @Video Gems Productions in the 3rd person??
  22. You just find can't find it possible to say anything positive about Z Cam??? First you say they'll have plenty in stock as it won't sell, then when told that is not at all true, you say the opposite "oh there is no interest in it thus stock is low" Just can't win with you....
  23. Because they're going to stick it in one of their next generation high end cinema cameras first.
