Was that even 8K sound at all? :-P That video was amazing, for not being able to do anything right. For the sake of everybody who might buy one, I hope I'm right and it doesn't come out until 2030

Came across this music video shot with a D7500: https://***URL removed***/forums/post/61824179 Also this one:

I believe they do subconsciously. They might not be able to articulate it though, as they don't have our trained filmmaker's eye. a) diminishing returns apply b) how do you define "10X better"?? Let's make up some random simple numbers as a basic example: A company sells $40,000,000 of a product each year with a 25% profit margin on that. They predict if they spend $10K on an advert and $400K on the advertising spend for that advert that then they'll see a 10% lift in sales in the coming year. Should they do this? Of course they should! It will lead to millions of dollars in extra profit. Now what if they predict they'll get a 20% lift in sales with the $100K advert? (with the same $400K advertising spend. Although... often this budget would be larger too, to go along with the pricier video budget itself. But hey, I'm not pulling this example from any real life figures, and I'm just keeping the figures simple) You might say "But David, they're only seeing a 2X improvement for a 10X increase in production cost!!" However I'd suggest you stop and re-think this, you don't need have the video be anywhere near "10X better" for it to be worthwhile to spend 10X more on the video shoot. Rather instead if the client believes these figures (of a 2X improvement on their sales volume increase vs the $10K video) then this is an obvious no brainier decision they should make to spend $100K on the video.

Maybe RED will finally make my Samsung NX300 (and the other NX series cameras) with the 45mm 3D lens worth something relevant Only good for stills! Not video. For that you need a Samsung, a NX300 or newer ideally. Ouch, the Sony TD300 on eBay is wanting a very optimistic high price: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=Sony+TD300&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&LH_ItemCondition=4&_sop=15 You could easily buy a Sony FS7 / F5 instead!

Do I prefer spam or spam?

Isn't the Terra 4K / BMPCC4K / GH5S already matching in the same league for lowlight as Gemini? And obviously the Mavo LF is far cheaper than Gemini! That we know already. The Terra bodies are more energy efficient than REDs (roughly double the power is needed for a RED DSMC2 body vs a Kinefinity Terra body) so it wouldn't surprise me if the same is perhaps true for the MAVO LF as well. (I checked the specs just now, and the MAVO LF only needs 10% more Watts than the Kinefinity Terra 4K draws)

Heh, well it is camera gear (not sound), so really trying hard to avoid spending any money there. Don't do it! Is a luxury item for you, not a tool.

That is one of the most detailed break down lists I've seen on this forum!

I'm amazed how people can't tell that the $100K spot is noticeably better. Sure, we get the law of diminishing returns kicking in hard. But that is true for everything in life Yet still, the $100K video is clearly a better video. For that you need to spend ten times more :-P

It isn't like MFT mount is a closed off system that nobody else can use such as E mount. As MFT has a wide range of companies backing it already! Why not Yongnuo as well?

If people prefer what they're used to, as they've become accustomed to thinking it is "best" as it is what they see most often, then what impact does this have upon the results if Canon is selling the most cameras? It is how you "win" on YouTube. Is why he also did the "MFT is Dead" video.

I've been thinking about buying these legs: https://www.came-tv.com/collections/video-tripod/products/came-tv-aluminum-tripod-max-load-55-lbs Anybody have experience with them?

Welcome back! :-) Recognising your own mistakes from the past is a great character trait to have. (hopefully means you learn not to make those mistakes again, and make new ones instead! ha)
-
No. Buy yourself a Tascam DR60Dmk2 / DR70D instead if you're going the extreme ultra low budget path instead :-) Which for most people are not really worth it anyway I reckon

Yes, but you shouldn't include their time in the costs of the video. They were just there because their office was being used at the location to film the video itself. The $1K video was kinda more or less done entirely just by that one guy. (but with a bit of arm twisting of whoever else he could grab, just a few low level non-specialists)
-
Nope. The $1K was just shot in his office. No locations budget spent there at all. Even $100K isn't unlimited budget, that can quickly disappear on an advert too. But you can noticeably tell how things like camera movement / lighting / VFX / etc is a step up with the $100K advert over the $10K advert. I was kinda disappointed how little they put into sound at each level. Even the $100K was just one guy doing it ENG

To be fair, that is an above average level of discussion about the BMPCC4K than we've sometimes seen recently.
-
Well the fact is most of your run of the mill work is well.... your run of the mill work. You're not winning a Clio / ADDY / etc Award every day of the week. Often it is just a person talking to a camera, telling you about their product, and next.
-
Why do you say that? The only "higher up discussion" I feel there might have been is making sure that all three kinda tie in with each other (I guess because they're part of this series) with some referential humor to each other. Seriously??? You can't tell the production quality difference between them?? They're very different! Not even between the $1K and $100K videos??? (although the biggest leap in production quality was from $1K to $10K, then the law of diminishing returns kicks in) hahaha YUP!! I feel this overall (& semi hidden!) advertising concept here is the real message they're pushing. But that each individual piece of it could perhaps push its "message" (of what they overtly claim to be advertising) better.

Sadly BoomRecorder only runs on OSX, not Windows.

Under $50 is crazy too low! (unless you go DIY like @BTM_Pix and others have done) As it is, I'm already astonished just how very very very low prices of monitors have fallen in recent years! Personally I'm liking my Lilliput A5 monitor quite a lot, it is a 5" monitor for only US$150

Canon EOS R first impressions - INSANE split personality camera
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
At least Fro was honest in that video about the 6Dmk2 now being "dead in the water" (exact quote from Fro!). -
Only electronic lenses would have options to correct distortion in a Panasonic body. So your 28mm would look exactly the same on a GH5S or a BMPCC4K Kinda defeats the purpose of the MASSIVE monitor on the BMPCC4K then.

Would be indistinguishable from the $100K video most likely. They didn't. Watch the BTS as well! When they explain what happened. The $1K video was mostly one guy by himself and an iPhone. (wellll.... he kinda got a little help some of the time, but it was just whoever he could twist the arm of to lend a hand. He never had an specialists working on it. I think the lady he got to swing the boom usually is an editor instead?? They have what looks like a ME66 running into an H5. Ugh! Though then later on he mentions he used a lav straight to the iPhone. So dunno as to exactly what they did for audio. Maybe a mix of various approaches) But broadly speaking I agree with you, most agency wouldn't even answer the phone for $1K. More like double or triple that would be their floor for even the smallest social media video. There certainly are lots of holes we could pick in this series, but hey, that makes for fun discussions like this! ? For instance unless you're shooting it yourself (which to be fair... seems to be who they're pitching the $1K video at!! Which when viewed that way, the $1K video process makes a lot more sense) and an iPhone is all you use, then you'd almost never use an iPhone! As even on a $1K corporate video you'd still at least use something like say a GH3/5Dmk3/a6000/etc instead. Much nicer than an iPhone!
