  1. Exactly, if anything I see Fujifilm as being the biggest competitor to MFT right now, rather than any of the new FF mirrorless
  2. OIS? Or IBIS? Guessing you meant IBIS when talking about a camera comparison Solid case then for a GH5S False. You can use just a normal adapter. Or get a quality Viltrox EF-M2 for cheap if you want a focal reducer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/In-Stock-Viltrox-EF-M2-Electronic-Adapter-F-Booster-0-71x-for-Canon-to-M43/162788392575? False. The Panasonic GH5S is clearly better. If you already have a 4K Atomos recorder and looking for slow motion performance on a budget, then seriously consider the Sony FS700 on eBay (US$1.5K ish secondhand) Also if you can stretch your budget, then the Sony FS5 is almost within reach:
  3. I'm starting to suspect the BMPCC4K battery should be treated the same way I treated the BMCC/BMPCC battery when on a shoot: A handy extra bonus which allows you to hot swap the external battery!
  4. A Zoom F4 is only marginally more expensive than an H6, but 100000x better. But if going the low low budget path, then get the Tascam DR60Dmk2 over the H6, better design and better audio quality. And take the DR10L over the F1 for bodypack recorders, the DR10L is noticeably smaller, which is a big thing for a bodypack of course! I agree. But even the DR60D mk1 sounds better over the H5/H6 At this level there is 0% reason to stay within the same brand. Just pick the best product at each price point.
  5. They could help keep cost of development down by using an identical URSA Mini Pro body but with a cheaper BMPCC4K sensor in it. However I'd hope they'd redesign the body down to make it smaller/lighter, perhaps a third shorter for instance. And give it a new MFT mount (while still keeping ND filters built in) But yes, I agree with your points in general. Unlikely to happen this year or next from BMD As BMD aims relatively mainstream with their cameras. As to get low prices they need decent volume. 8K is not mainstream enough. For similar reasons I don't see a FF cinema camera happening from BMD either in 2019 (although I'd rate the changes of that a fair bit higher than an 8K camera happening, but still low chances).
  6. They do. http://www.metabones.com/products/?c=speed-booster FD / Conterex / F / Leica R / Contax Yashica / Olympus OM / etc etc
  7. That is assuming he wants to sell his G85, which I don't think he wants to do. And if he did that then he'd be losing a lot of features of the G85: Better battery life, IBIS, 4K, weather proofing, etc
  8. No. That isn't at all my mindset. My mindset is use what he has at hand, and if he already is overdelevering for the level of this project, why should he sink even more of his own money into it? Especially when I'm sure even with his own gear as it is now, he still has a long way further he could improve! Without spending another penny extra. Exactly!! Yet another reason for why not to spend more money in buying an a7S
  9. I've done PMW-F5 + AXS-R5, wasn't so bad I guess? Worth it
  10. Heck, I've shot stages performances on my GH1 when I first got it! Even remember ages ago shooting a stage performance with a SD ENG camera! At a certain point you need to just accept you're getting $$$ for a project and you're giving the client $$$$$$ worth of deliveries, so stop throwing your own money at it! Except in this case the person is only getting ¢¢¢ for the project! Not even $$ Thus the G85 is already waaaay overdelivering for the project's requirements.
  11. I don't even want a bigger sensor! Would just like to see a slimmed down URSA Micro Pro (but keeping all the I/O) with the BMPCC4K sensor in it for $2K. Sadly they missed the obvious of having an URSA Mini 4K MFT camera, a focal reducer would have helped the weakness of the 4K sensor in low light as well. True! But I wonder if JVC might have given us one gem camera with the LS300, only for it to be a one off and never release a similar second camera. That would be nifty too!
  12. I was expecting you'd need more reach than width! Eh, I disagree, reckon there is a lot of other things you could get instead than another camera
  13. It is called the URSA Mini 4K You get all the goodness of the URSA Mini 4.6K! Except with a worse sensor....
  14. E mount to E mount focal reducers? As if it wasn't crystal clear before that this is 110% A Grade Bullsh*t! Zero hits on google. Still lighter than the combo with the F55!
  15. Indeed, maybe Panasonic was waiting for the right magic mix of people behind the system before trying FF? As they had enough sense to realize going solo would be insanity! And with Leica for the prestige high end and Sigma to bring their own unique twist (Foveon!) plus their excellent lenses (a key key point for any new system!) then Panasonic likely felt they finally had the right partners to take on Canikon head on. Sigma will give that to the L mount in a blink of the eye.
  16. Went and hunted down what the past sale prices of the Panasonic EVA1 on eBay, sadly only two in their history ? And it looks like you've only save seven hundred bucks by going secondhand with a FS5. No slow motion either with the C100 either (60fps 1080 hardly counts does it?), and a few other features missing too like no SDI output and no mirrorless mount (EF mount.... biggest downside of the EVA1!). Oh, and the C100 has no 10bit internal! Also Sony gives you fun features Canon never has in a C100, such as live streaming over WiFi from the FS5: C100mk2 and FS5 are however identical prices now: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1086125-REG/canon_eos_c100_cinema_eos.html
  17. Am pretty sure there will be a SDI expansion. The bigger question is if they'll support SDI and TC? I doubt it, but one can dream! Otherwise the 7Q+ will remain as a much better choice for me. I bet in 2019 I used FS5 + Ninja V will go for much less, sub $3K is attainable. I'd want the EVA1 for sure, for a range of reasons: better internal codecs, timecode, etc But also a new EVA1 costs nearly three times the amount of what soon a secondhand FS5 on ebay will cost.
  18. Crop it to 2.35:1 in post and that should take care of it? Edit: OH! 300th page....
  19. Yup, earlier this year then $3.5K might have been barely above the floor of the lowest price you could get lucky to find a FS5 for on eBay. But with a price drop, I'd hope they should get down to sub $2.5K during 2019 The FS5 might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for your general purpose run of the mill corporate/tv/web work then the FS5 is solid choice. The Sony FS5 is basically Sony's version of the classic Canon C100 workhorse. In fact when I look back at the last half dozen invoices I sent recently for my sound work, then half of them the camera crew was using a FS5! (heh, just how the cookie crumbled recently though. Across the whole year the average would be much lower I've seen FS5 cameras)
  20. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1185424-REG/sony_pxw_fs5_xdcam_super_35.html Spotted the news when I was checking up on the HiSpeedCamera website: http://www.hispeedcams.com/sony-fs5-240fps-full-hd-camera-gets-750-price-drop/ Didn't realise a new FS5 had dropped to well under four grand. But I had already noticed the prices of a FS5 on eBay had been steadily trending down this year. So while the the FS700 had become more and more attractive (around US$1.5K ish is a common price on eBay for a FS700), if the FS5 comes down in price to only be another $1K more (as I'm sure the price drop on a new FS5 will apply pressure to eBay prices!) then it might be a tough ask to buy a FS700 when the FS5 is only a little more. Hmmmm..... But the Sony PMW-F3 on eBay for as low as possibly US$750ish itself for a whole camera (the FS5 price drop equals a whole F3!) remains attractive, especially as I wouldn't need to buy a new recorder at all for a 2nd F3 camera. (although in the last month or two the low end floor price of an F3 seems to have trended back up to $1K, I dunno... just a momentary blip I assume in the overall inevitable decline in prices for everything) Plus of course let's not forget the new BMPCC4K and the many other mirrorless cameras recently released.
  21. Maybe there is a mix up in the rumors, and this is raw for the S1 not the S1R (a S35 crop of a 24 megapixel S1 FF sensor would be roughly 12 megapixels, pretty close to then go for a 4K raw crop out of the S1??)
  22. Wooden Camera is for those who are impatient.
  23. https://www.newsshooter.com/2018/10/17/pdmovie-live-air-lightweight-wireless-follow-focus/ If you're operating this solo, then bluetooth shouldn't matter to you at all. But if you're a professional 1st AC then this sounds like a big downside. Think about it, that is 30 meters under I assume ideal conditions. Which practically speaking means you might often be down to say 10 meters or less? You'll find yourself being screwed multiple times a year (imagine if it is a steadicam tracking shot, around a corner or from a follow car, or many many other circumstances) You might need to find yourself running along side the camera instead, trying to get a peek at the monitor as you move. Another downside is it is seems to be only for 15mm rails, again not a negative if you're an owner operator. But if you're working as a 1st AC instead, no compatibility with 19mm studio rails is a big downside. So it seems if you're focused (ha!) on AC work then the Tilta Nucleus-M makes more sense instead.
