Hopefully the FF mirrorless means that Panasonic will not make the GH series 8K for many years yet to come. As I'd much rather they just make the GHx each release be the best best possible 4K camera it can be! To ensure a smooth (ish) upgrade progression path then the EVA1 has to be a MFT mount (or at least the new L mount) in the future. The release cycles indicate the G series is next in line to get an update, with the G85 successor coming next? I do hope it doesn't get skipped over and forgotten about. As I feel the G series is the sweet spot to buy for many people, especially for new comers to join and grow the system.

There isn't. So long as you're happy with what you get (raw/ProRes with BMD imagery and the GH5S sensor) and happy with the obvious compromises (no IBIS, no stills performance, no flip out screen, no worthwhile video AF, etc) then go for the BMPCC4K

Sony launched a new bigger battery back when they announced the a9 As for a new mount? ZERO chance of that happening. (unless they do something out of left field like announce a medium format camera) A new mount would kill a tonne of good will and momentum, leaving them heaps of very pissed off customers. All for what? To start over again all from scratch. Nope! Instead Sony will keep on shoehorning FF sensors into their APS-C E mount. Even lower chance than that. Not even a donut in a police station chance's of surviving.

The a5100 is still lurking around because they never updated the a5x00 series! And I guess the a6000 sticks around too because now they're lacking any decent entry level camera then the discounted a6000 is trying to kinda fill that gap for now. Seems they were very aggressive in the early years to capture mirrorless market share. Then they sat on their laurels and cruised along for a few years at a mid pace speed? (still been releasing a fair few cameras though) Maybe now Canikon have joined the FF mirrorless race then Sony will kick it back up a gear to respond to them. My bet is on a GH6 having built in NDs (I feel like this though is unlikely, but is still the most likely stills camera in 2019 which might have NDs). Because Panasonic always has been pushing the video tech forward the best in their stills cameras. And as full frame mirrorless builds up steam and catches up, this is the best way the GH line up can make another big leap ahead and stay on the throne as a #1 choice for videographers.

From the DPRview it does indeed sound like it is still a long time until the Sony a7Smk3 will happen. And he was only very vague about new APS-C cameras coming ? Oh well, nothing new here that is good news. Maybe even mildly bad news, as it seems we have nothing exciting new for me in the near future.

Yes lots of and lots of people own a GH5, but even more people don't own a GH5. Thus the comparison between the GH5 and BMPCC4K gets interesting. FF? S35 is where it is at! And the MARS ("Multi Aspect Ratio Sensor") of the GH5S / BMPCC4K helps squeeze out a bit wider FoV. Which combined with a focal reducer gives you even wider than S35

My brother just purchased a Nikon D7500 (based on my recommendations, he wanted to buy a camera now today, for his business. Somewhat overkill probably for his needs... but the price increase over say a D7200/D5500 was small enough he was fine with it. The D7500 has some legit benefits over the D7200/D5600. The D7500 is a much higher end camera than the D5600, and the D7500 has the 4K and flip out touch screen over the D7200, and of course he doesn't care about losing the 2nd SD card slot). Anyway, looking forward to getting some hands on time myself with the D7500! Am certainly not a big fan of kit lenses in general, but the 18-140 VR was only an extra NZ$260 so I said go for it. I reckon he needs to at a minimum purchase one more lens, a Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 (think he'll mostly be shooting with a wide angle, so the extra cost of the newer 11-20mm is worth it over the cheaper 11-16mm f2.8). Might recommend a Tokina 16-50mm f2.8 and Nikon 35mm f1.8G DX as well, as they're super cheap on ebay and would round out his general purpose kit nicely.

Ditto, got a similar one too, handy for the D Cam coverage to just bring a small lightweight tripod like that.

I use primes in these circumstances: 1) Unmanned locked off camera? Perhaps I might. As then a zoom or a prime, doesn't matter, I'm not changing it! 2) When darkness sets in and I'm forced to Otherwise zooms are more convenient for the run and gun nature of the day.

"€899.00" Ouch, tough to see ever buying it at that price. Is roughly as much as a BMPC4K is worth in late 2018!

https://www.newsshooter.com/2018/08/30/tilta-nucleus-n-birtv-2018/ Outrageously stupidly cheap! Plus of course there is the already shipping Tilta Nucleus M, which itself was groundbreaking (I've been seeing it on set a lot this year!) for how very dirt cheap it is: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1367922-REG/tilta_nucleus_m_wireless_follow_focus.html

Z Cam E2 / BMPCC4K / GH5 (original) / Fujifilm X-T3 / Nikon Z6 are all solid choices to keep your eye on. Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 + Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 + Sigma 50-100mm f1.8 is a good three lens set at a reasonable price for anybody shooting on a S35/MFT camera.
-
With this mix of specs you're going to find it tough to find anything which matches all of it. Fujifilm X-T3, or Panasonic GH5/GH5S would be your closest bets to consider. Maybe a Z Cam E2 as dark horse wild card, keep an eye on it. But perhaps also consider the BMPCC4K with a wireless follow focus instead of AF? As good wireless follow focus units used to be very very expensive but Tilta has been a price game changer lately.

Some people love to sleep to this. So 10 hours is a perfect length. People have many different needs/wants/preferences. Thus my view is if it doesn't harm me, then let them do whatever they want! Even if it is uploading 10 hour long white noise videos....

Same too with the FS700/FS5 if/when Atomos finally releases the SDI accessory!!

Nikon Z7 is at EOSHD HQ - better video than Sony?
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Sounds like a solid argument for a DX mirrorless using the APS-C section of the Z7 sensor ? -
And leave the toilet set up. Too expensive. Too late to market. No 4K 60fps TL;DR: the FS7 happened.

Copyright enforcement on youtube is downright crazy bonkers. It has long been broken. Probably we're at the point we should advocate chucking out the whole copyright system and coming up with something new, as it is by now too broken and messy to be fixed. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-42580523

Got my fingers and toes crossed for Atomos releasing a Ninja V add on with combo SDI and timecode integrated! Would make it absolutely perfect for using with either a FS700 or FS5, as both lack TC built in otherwise

Looking forward to seeing more from the Z CAM E2:

That video is the first on my playlist dedicated just to foley videos! Check out my whole playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoGsUEnlZzUIFJ523qScw8DTzX0xh-yz8 It is one of the tougher areas in production sound to make a full time living from. But yes, would be fun to do! Would be one of my idle dreams as well to have.

About a billion! Anyway, there is a difference between how many back up options you own, vs own many you always have on set with you right now and then (which can vary)

Kinda boggles the mind that auto iris is even a big deal

If I was the 1st AC there I'd have discussed taking a very very different path in rigging up that camera! Yes, even though we'd be adding on wireless follow focus / wireless video / V lock / monitors-recorder / shoulder rig / rails / etc etc Just ugh! Could have been done so much better.
