  1. Which means we can expect to see the final shipping camera in the stores sometime in early 2030
  2. Ha! That is a good way to put it indeed. Sony's IBIS is just as "good"/bad as the Panasonic AF Nicely phrased and compared.
  3. There is a solid case for using instead an easyrig + with IBIS, then you'll have no gimbal going nuts on you mid flight (the worst place for that to happen!) There is a custom accessory offered for the easyrig, specifically designed for purposes like a helicopter when you need the lower clearance
  4. https://www.43rumors.com/save-230-on-the-panasonic-refurbished-gh5/ Well refurbished / secondhand they seem to often go for sub US$1.5K ish?? And GH5 still has features which are better than the X-T3, such as waveform monitor, full size HDMI, anamorphic, etc Yes, the GH5 is showing its "age" now (only a few months away from 3yrs since it was announced), but it can still hold is own as a competitive all round option to choose. (especially if you already have a collection of MFT lenses/adapters, like myself and many others would) Having said that, I likely won't buy a GH5 any time in the next year, but hoping to get a Panasonic G85. But in no rush, I can keep on waiting for their price to slide on down. Hoping for the next low end G series to come out soon (as two of them got released between the GH4 and GH5, but none since the GH5!). Which will then push down the G85 price a lot on eBay
  5. Rods are quite thin and potentially need to support a lot of weight, wouldn't want to risk a battery getting twisted and bent....
  6. This. Humans struggle to judge things objectively, instead viewing it as relative to its nearest comparisons. For instance a similar problem you get it is people get upset and grumpy about how "awful modern day life is", yet from the big picture view, we've never had it better! Even the 90th percentile of us in a 1st World Country are living better off than the Kings of France would in the 1500's I'll admit though, it is a battle to be happy and content with what you have now instead of lusting after the latest shiny toy. I own the original BMPCC after all, but the more I read this thread the more I want the BMPCC4K..... *if* I do give into tempting to buy another camera, I'll try to get either the Panasonic G85 which is much cheaper and would actually be more useful for my YouTube vlogging, or a 2nd Sony PMW-F3 which I'm often finding useful as a second matching angle to my current F3. Half the people... that includes you and I, right? ? But yeah, kinda tempted to follow that plan too and buy one next year secondhand. However a flaw in that plan is what if they're still only fulfilling pre-order even into early next year.... ha!! But whatever excuse I need to tell myself to avoid buying one this year!
  7. A grip with built in space for 15mm rails would be ideal. As otherwise a battery grip underneath can through off the heights for everything, but if the correct rails height is built in from the start then this would help reduce that problem a little Missing my point. It was still money wasted for him. Once you realize you're wasting money, what should you do? Stop!
  8. He could make a million dollars a year. $5K is still $5K (Only 120hrs on the camera!) And as he said in the video, he mentioned it didn't make financial sense even for him! And was probably a mistake for him to buy. Yeah, he said something very similar to this during the video.
  9. However the BMPCC4K can much more cheaply get an adapter to use a ND "built in", while far more difficult to do so with the RED for that price And the BMPCC4K has mini XLR with phantom power, good enough for a simple sit down corporate interview They don't have screens there. They usually would have a screen on the side of the camera. Exactly, there is nothing stopping a person from rigging the BMPCC4K up into a 15lb beast. But also if you need to let it be very compact, for a lightweight car rig, or a Snori Rig, or on a lightweight gimbal, or a simple overhead shot, or in a very cramped bathroom, etc... you can do all of that as well!
  10. It is already quite small though? Compare it to a FS7 or UMP! But sure, if it was made 33% shorter that would be nice
  11. I wonder if JVC can get their hands on the popular GH5S/E2/BMPCC4K/Terra4K sensor to stick it inside the LS300 mk2? I'm sure that would make many people very happy!
  12. Just wait another year and I bet the mk2 from Nikon will bring you the 4K 60fps
  13. Let's say he drops it and got a deep scratch on the body, his insurance would never cover this, yet it would hit hard its resell value vs a mint condition one. Plus you're always left with the nagging feeling "did it do more damage internally that will pop up at the worst moment on a shoot?"
  14. And I bet for low budget fast paced shoots (such as when you need to knock out a half a dozen corporate interviews in just a single afternoon) then having two matching cameras is very handy. Am quite tempted to myself buy a 2nd Sony PMW-F3 So basically he lost $5K over a year and a half, which is both a lot and "not too bad", depending on your perspective.
  15. For video the Nikon D500 was a big step forward. Remember too it was announced nearly three years ago, so even against the competition (remember this was a year before the GH5) it was pretty decent. And clearly ahead of Canon!! (if you exclude the ultra extremely expensive options like the 1D C)
  16. I remember when back in my film school days when I had a chance to shoot my GH1 alongside a 5Dmk2, it was almost startling how much better the GH1 was. (even in low light) I'm often choosing my Panasonic G6 over my Nikon D5200, because the body and lens sizes are so much more compact.
  17. The Z Cam E2 is tiny! Yet the OP thought that was too "big".... The FS700/recorder combo is going to be waaaaaaaaaaaay too big then! This btw is a great blog if you're looking for low budget but high speed cameras: http://www.hispeedcams.com/
  18. That is what Nikon should have done! Heck, all camera manufacturers should aspire to that level of promotion of their new products.
  19. That already exists (and is a teeny teeny bit cheaper): https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1279510-REG/sony_axs_r7_external_4k_raw.html I'd guess the bare body (the "brain") will be less than half that cost. It is all the extra add ons and accessories which will push it up close to FS7 pricing.
  20. Oh I already have this set up (if you send anything to @IronFilm.co.nz it will still get to me even if it isn't one of my usual regular email addresses @IronFilm.co.nz, I set up all my websites and hosting myself), I just need to do it. Probably can't be bothered changing it for my many existing log in details, but for new ones? Yup!
  21. Make sure you secure the camera body to your body! You do NOT want to drop that. Likely for health and safety reasons they'll make you do this anyway. I was made to do this when I climbed up the SkyTower.
