We were discussing this in another thread recently, but if a person wants the "hand held look" without too much over the top "bad" shake, then they should seriously look into getting an EasyRig. That is how the pros do that motion look.

The on going saga is still on going..... now they want me to come over and do it for them. :-/ Seriously? And what point should I just charge them for post production services. (I didn't charge for the Tentacles btw, just threw it in as a bonus) Why can't they just sync it up the old fashioned away by hand?? (or with PluralEyes) Well nope, they can't even figure out how to do that! Seriously.... It is always nice to dream! Anyway, the BMMCC made some very nice refinements over the BMPCC which means if I saw a Micro for US$500 (welllllll.... prior to the BMPCC4K coming out that is) then I'd have snapped it up: 1) longer battery life 2) bigger HDMI port 3) 60fps slow motion 4) timecode And more! Any one of those could be a big reason for a person to prefer the Micro over the Pocket, and together, they make for a very compelling case!

After Kye mentioned Gary Vaynerchuck, I looked him up, and Gary Vaynerchuck was kinda saying exactly that. If you're starting up a new business then you should YouTube vlog its progress. As most businesses fail, but documenting the process around that? There is a lot of value in that which many others will appreciate. Seems like that Instagram person you're following is kinda doing the same. She documented her process of making a film, and many people found that in itself to be very valuable, and she benefited from that in return in it helping to further get her film made. And once you've got 2K subs, then you'd hope that is work $100/yr to you!

Yes, of course great things can be shot with a cheap camera. I'm certainly NOT arguing against that. But with a cheap camera then: 1) there are more of those cameras out in the wild, thus you see more of everything with them 2) "cheap" people tend to buy them, which often means (just a correlation though) cheap in production values or skills. Which leads to poor resulting videos, even if the camera itself is capable of much more I feel like Panasonic "fixed" many things of the G7 when the G85 came out: 1) weather sealing / better build 2) live HDMI out 3) IBIS

It can be a pain though if dealing with n00b/ID10T post, I just today had an editor ring me up and I had to carefully hand hold him through each step for using each Tentacle Sync track from the three Canon DSLRs. Like would have been much easier for me if we'd used 3x BMPCC4K

The cheaper the camera, then the more "bad examples" you'll end up seeing. And that has nothing to do with the camera inherently itself, but rather is due to the type of people who buy it due to its low price. I agree, but perhaps the reason a G7 still gets mentioned a lot is because the G7 is the "cheapest good(ish) 4K camera".

I agree with most of your post, up until the last sentence. BMD never repeated worldwide (aside from a momentary flash here or there at some shops shortly after) half price sale of the BMPCC. It was for most intents or purposes a "one off". Many of us waited to see it happen for the BMPCC again, only to never get that chance again. And it took a very very long time to wait for 2ndhand prices to universally come down to the sub $500 level. And I waited for ages for a half price Micro Cinema Camera which sadly never came :-(

Ah, I see! Yes, if it is just your first season then simply getting any clients can be a struggle. Thus the undercutting approach. But keep an eye out to your future! And try to raise them higher as soon as you feel comfortable doing soon, as you're worth it (especially as you should hopefully rapidly improve too, as you're in the early stages of the learning curve).

Good suggestion. Or if you're just going to be bringing only a body and a single prime lens anyway, why not one of the various APS-C sensor P&S options? Could be worth a consideration.

I had a quick watched (I'll confess, I skimmed a little!). And it certainly is not top tier wedding cinematography like I've seen elsewhere. However you've got very good solid workmanlike product there, I'd give it a thumbs up pass. But whoa... then I saw your prices! Now, I don't know exactly what is normal rates for the UK (let alone your specific area), but wow, my gut feeling is you must be undercharging! You should lift your rates, as with your current standard of films you're certainly overdelivering for those low prices. (you're starting at only seven hundred???? Crazy)

False, global shutter cameras in 2018 are extraordinarily rare. You're perhaps confusing "fast rolling shutter" (which even many very affordable cameras can manage) with "global shutter"??? Absolutely. On high end shoots there are only rarely if even purely naked handheld shots. (unless that is explicitly a look that is desired) And more manpower. Getting an easyrig pretty much makes it almost essential an assistant is then used. You can make some monopod shots be basically the same as a tripod shot. But a monopod can also give you little jib movements, or very short "steadicam" movements, etc Is a very versatile tool! I have the GF3, and I'd really encourage you to take something else.... even my GX1 I liked a lot more. The only good thing about the GF3? Unlimited recording for fifty bucks! (and I purchased it at that price many years ago, maybe three or four years ago if not more??) Made it the perfect E Cam for weddings.

A wedding photographer is very different to a wedding videographer (especially a lower tier videographer, like herself perhaps). And a wedding videographer from an era before HDSLRs even existed (I'm guessing? Perhaps even the film era) is a very very different experience to a modern day wedding videographer in 2018

Can you adapt a mirrorless lens to EF? Physics say no. But to MFT? Without even looking the specs to check if it is possible, I can say this is very very very unlikely to be done with the electronic connections you'd need to fully control the lens. (although of course these new mounts lack many needed lenses, but what I mean is that there is no new lens which alone could drive me towards them)

How long is a piece of string? Anywhere from less than a hundred bucks, up to hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

That would be unnaturally cruel. I might just give up on cameras and go play with my one hundred mics instead ? An EF version will never happen. Nothing. So many many many lenses are available across many mounts, all mounts have great choices. We're spoiled for choices.

Mechanical shutter is not quite the same as global shutter. And all those cameras which use the BMD 4K sensor (which means the AJA CION as well) are rather flawed cameras, some people accept that, but others run far away and avoid it. So they can be excluded. Thus in that sense the Sony F55 is kinda the "only" cinema camera with a global shutter. (wellll.... if you ignore the few CCD cameras as well. So yeah, that "F55" response is mostly true but also has a fair few asterisks after that statement)

Q: How do you know a politician is lying? A: Their lips are moving. Some could say the same is true about salespeople as well.... I bet the reason is : BOTH! Both is due to their cinema camera world view, and for cost cutting measures.

I wouldn't be surprised either if a US$1.5K wedding meant someone with say a FS5/C100 with a couple of DSLRs and a B cam op. But also wouldn't be surprised if it meant someone doing it solo with only DSLRs.
