  1. That is very handy to know, as my Sony PMW-F3 would 100% be heftier, so I'll be sure not to go with any of the more lightweight easyrigs.
  2. Possibilities: 1) this was specially staged (so not normal) just for the YouTube video, and no photographer was present 2) they just framed out the photographer and didn't include in the edit 3) it doesn't matter.... even if you get a video shoot time slot which is all to yourself during a wedding (that you don't have to share with the photographer, and that is kinda unusual, especially on the low budget shoots she is doing it seems), then you're talking about mere minutes you have per pose/setting/clip you need to smash out quickly on the spot before they need to get back to the wedding. And it is highly likely she could be working alone (even if she isn't working alone, then possibly her second shooter has to stay back at the wedding venue to "hold the fort" in case any spontaneous moments pop up which they'd want filmed) In my past as a videographer, I have shot a LOT of weddings. Usually as a B cam shooter for someone else, and it is very very rare to see lights used at a wedding on the shoots I was on. The exceptions: 1) a "high end" Indian wedding I worked on that a couple of dedolights were carefully used for part of 2) an old timey wedding videographer who sometimes rarely used a LED worklight (yes... from the hardware store) because her ancient Sony EX1 kinda needed it occasionally.
  3. Am thinking about using it with the much heavier Sony PMW-F3 plus an Atomos recorder / V lock / SmallHD monitor / Mattebox / etc So yeah, if I am to get an easyrig, then I just need to figure out these three aspects: 1) what weight rating should I get? (there are a few options. Mostly either 3-8kg or 8-18kg. Ideally I think 5-12kg would work for me? I'm kinda needing right in the middle with my Sony PMW-F3 rig. As I'm skeptical that those "3-18kg" easyrigs are really just "8-18kg" models, and I'm not sure how good/bad an overrated easyrig is with a lighter camera??) 2) which variation to get of the easyrig? As I see several slightly different designs in terms of the design of the harness or the knobs etc 3) To Serene or not?
  4. Ohhhhhhhhh!! Interesting you're using it with a GH5 that already has IBIS! I'd have expected it more with a GH5S instead. I see you've got a different easyrig model than the first two I linked to above, what made you specifically choose that design? (do you have the Serene as well?)
  5. Nope, maybe I should do a vlog with it? But I love my new SLR Magic 8mm f4 too much!
  6. It depends. Sometimes in short bursts, like that, you don't notice the gaps but over longer conversations you realize they're missing pieces of info as you just talk right past each other. I have this happen an awful lot with my girlfriend. But if you say only briefly met her at party and had a brief chat, then you wouldn't notice it like I do who lives with her every day.
  7. Just because she is earning $120K/yr doesn't mean each wedding has that budget. Quite the opposite, when she is doing 80 weddings/year that means each wedding is only $1.5K/wedding???? I hope that is not gross income, but net income. As once you subtract expenses.... OUCH! She is playing the high volume, low price game. No wonder she is just rushing through them with minimal equipment. (haven't watched the video, but if she is doing $1.5K weddings then she might be doing it alone or only with one extra shooter)
  8. I didn't call him a liar. But I understand how when you're very busy the details can be missed or glossed over when spread out over months of conversation, especially if you're trying to communicate in Chinglish across vastly different time zones. After he published his review. (I got the impression we found out a the same time, or even sooner, than the CEO did) Which is why the review then very quickly got an update, pointing out a couple of things he missed out. (but this could have very easily have been taking care of before he published his flawed review)
  9. Yeah. Even I am sitting on the fence about using this. Do I want to go this far? And I do shoots in which I'll have a 1st AC. (although, might only just be a single AC shared between 2 cameras! Although on Monday's shoot I was DoP for, at least we had a 1st AC and a 2nd AC to help out myself and my B cam op) Certainly at the next half step up level from where I'm at, you start to see easyrigs used quite often when it is appropriate. As they're an extremely handy tool. But Easyrigs also extremely expensive, not sure if it is a worthwhile compromise to cheap out get a Chinese easyrig for a fraction of the cost. Yes they are heaps cheaper, but if they fail to live up to what they promise then all of that will just be money wasted down the drain? (which could be $400+, or even US$700+ if I'm getting the chinese Serene with the Easyrig as well)
  10. Of which all of those (but one) are not Kinefinity's core target markets. Thus it is indeed unfair to attack the camera for not meeting standards it was not designed for anyway! Did the ARRI ALEXA LF get criticized for not being a vloggers camera? Not being suitable for weddings? Etc etc Of course not. That is what he claims. Which I have a healthy skeptism about. And even if true, after what he experienced, surely any common sense person would think to flick an email back to check what is up?
  11. 4K and higher frame rates are the only big benefits I'll give in favor of the RED ONE. But I'll try to struggle along for another year with merely "only" 1080 60fps ProRes HQ. (although the temptation to buy a FS700 is there. Or a Sony PMW-F5, but then I'm looking at dropping US$6K ish :-/ ) However in every other way the Sony PMW-F3 is better than a RED ONE: Power consumption. Weight. Low light. NDs. Mount adaptability. Etc
  12. And an extremely flawed review too. In at least a couple of ways: 1) he seems to be making comparisons of it against doco/ENG cameras (perhaps because that is Matthew's main background. But still, it is is very weird for him to do this!! As that isn't Kinefinity's target market at all. They're chasing the same market as say a RED Weapon or an ARRI Mini is intended for, and thus should be compared against those) 2) he completely fails to mention at all that he merely had a very early review copy, not what a final production model will be in the future. (and it boggles my mind he didn't mention this, although he has clarified it somewhat since then with an update) And then there are a bunch of other minor issues he has, such as flat out being wrong about the Kinefinity batteries (as the Sony BP-U30 batteries are 100% compatible). Which when he is getting wrong simple basic facts like this, it makes you question everything else about the review.
  13. It is not just the lens, but the weight of the entire rig of camera + V lock + accessories etc that makes the image stable. But by the time you get to that point, then you can no longer hold it steady for any extended period of time. Which is why you then need an Easyrig (or at least a shoulder rig, but that is limiting in various aspects, and still is not something you want to do for very long periods once it gets heavy). Have been very seriously considering getting a knock of Easyrig from China to use with my Sony PMW-F3 rig. For instance: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-18kg-Easyrig-Gimbal-Vest-Easy-Rig-Flowcine-for-DJI-Ronin-3-AXIS-Camera/332708600544 https://www.ebay.com/itm/YELANGU-3-18KG-As-Easyrig-Camera-Gimbal-Stabilizing-Vest-with-Arm-Rig-Accessory/113146003427 https://www.ebay.com/itm/8kg-Easyrig-Flowcine-Serene-Arm-Steadicam-Vest-Arm-For-3-Axis-Handheld-Gimbal/392028734017
  14. Eh, my Sony PMW-F3 is roughly speaking more practical more general purpose usage.
  15. I shot with 2x RED ONEs earlier this week (a mix of steadicam / shoulder rig / monopod / tripod), and yeah you can do that. Doesn't mean you should! As even though it is a little lighter than an ARRI ALEXA Classic, those RED ONEs are still heavy.
  16. Yes, the KineMON monitor (and power for it, uses an integrated cable like say RED/Sony/Canon do) is just a small 5" one you can clip onto the top of the camera. The battery is just a small Sony BP-U30 that slots into the KineGrip side handle. The whole thing is not too dissimilar in total size to what a large-ish DSLR might by like a 5D or perhaps D5 might be. And with 9mm f8 it is easy to get your subject in focus even with manual focus! I've owned one myself for years.
  17. Have you ever used an Arri Alexa? Heck, you could have half a dozen BMPCC4K bodies and they still won't match the weight of one big boy Alexa! Would this help? As well as the BMPCC4K, the Kinefinity Terra 4K is also smaller than a C100. I thought it was going to be a color S16 camera? Basically a S16 cut of their existing Arri EV sensor, and I think the resolution was going to be only 720 or so? And only sold to Universities/schools/techs/etc Stick with the Olympus 9mm f/8 Fisheye Body Cap lens! Get rails and a V mount on the back?
  18. Pop down to your local hardware store and browse, always interesting stuff there, you can probably reuse various types of tool boxes there for your needs.
  19. I'm waiting for a GH9
  20. That was an issue with their older S35 4K sensor, not their S35 4.6K sensor.
  21. Price it sub $3K and it will be competing hard against the C100 mk3 / FS5 mk3 of the future and will blow them out. Go higher and then it is a tough job against FS7 / EVA1 / UMP etc
  22. Relative to bigger budget movies which have a craft's good budget just of itself which would be many times larger, then yeah, $50K is a "no budget feature film"
  23. Stick a X-T3 in an EVA1 body with an X mount and many many people would be very happy.
  24. But who could Olympus partner with? I don't think parternship with BMD would help, as BMD is too niche in the filmmaking world and has zero appeal in the broader photography world. Olympus can't possibly go this alone. Too little, too late, to try that now. They must partner with at least one other major company, plus perhaps also an extra one or two smaller/new/niche players like BMD or Yi. But what major companies remain?? Fuji won't go into FF, they're instead doing a play above (Medium Format) and below (APS-C). I reckon Pentax is the only notable player left to join with Olympus on a new mount (which they'd be foolish to do! Better off joining L mount).
