  1. People will often call a $50K or whatever feature film a "zero budget" or "no budget" film, as it is all just a rounding error that rounds down to zero.
  2. IF they designed a new mount from scratch, what if anything would they do differently?
  3. Also from a marketing perspective it is a brilliant move, as they get to join an "established" mount system and get some of the golden shine of the Leica fame to rub off on their budget version cameras. Exactly. Creating a "new" mount for the market will carry a lot of risks as to if consumers will accept it, so if it is even just a little established already that can help reduce fears in buyers that this new mount might not last (like NX....) because this is a mount which has already been around for a few years.
  4. With so many long long time Nikon shooters I'm sure it is only a matter of time until they bring out a screw drive adapter.
  5. Oops! Sorry for spoiling your morning Was so sure that was you ?
  6. I've noticed a few times this happening already, announcing but without prices. I'll deliberately mess with this plan then ? I HOPE IT IS UNDER THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS!! AS I WOULD NEVER EVER PAY MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A LENS LIKE THIS IS WHICH IS SLOWER THAN T2.8 AND ISN'T WIDER THAN 24mm!!!!
  7. I've been pretty good in holding off in buying. Had my Panasonic G6 and Sony PMW-F3 each for over three years. My BMPCC for over four years. And the Nikon D5200 for well over five years.
  8. That is my big question, is the SL mount properly big enough to hold FF sensors with space for IBIS? We know Sony has some issues squeezing a FF sensor with IBIS into an APS-C intended mount. The Z mount is perfect at 55mm! But SL mount is only 48.8, which yes is bigger than the 46mm E mount, but not by much! Is that enough? If I was Sony I'd hurry up to release the a7Smk3 before the Z6 and then the Panasonic FF steals Sony thunder.
  9. This one went quite "cheap": https://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-SL-Typ-601-Body-10850-2-Batteries-2-SD-cards-/323448542753 Are you saying that was you? ? If any/all those companies joined then that would be wild! I reckon Pentax absolutely should. As at some point Pentax needs to make the proper jump to Mirrorless (their current offering doesn't count! haha). And Pentax is too small a niche to survive with their own mount this late in the game. Would be natural for Olympus to follow their past partner in photography Panasonic. And this is the only path which makes sense for Samsung to rejoin the game. As no one would trust another NX system camera from them again after abandoning the NX1, and they'd have the same problems if they tried to create a new FF mount system themselves which no one would believe in. So their best bet is Samsung joins an existing group.
  10. Oh I asking in a more general sense, not targeted at you specifically Yup, exactly, much less than 5yrs! And a year and half isn't too long to wait. I feel I've got less impatient as the years go by :-) (then again I was getting a little impatient waiting for the NT-SF1? Want to see some independent reviews of that mic!)
  11. And no IBIS. I see the X-T3 as a camera which will be quickly surpassed by Fuji, if I was considering a X-T3 then I'd just hold off instead. Why do people need dual P48 on a X-T3? Perhaps if dual booming an interview set up? But otherwise a VMP doesn't need P48, neither does a wireless RX
  12. What are our guesses for the price of the 25-100mm T2.9? I'm guessing (hoping? Praying?) $2K All of their lenses have been sub $1K (so to expect the 24-100mm to be double their most expensive one isn't too unreasonable??): https://www.venuslens.net/shop/?product_orderby=price&product_order=desc Until their new extreme 24mm f4 2x Macro Probe lens, which is US$1.5K But looking at their competition, then even $5K could be seen as "cheap"! :-/ Unless you feel the Fujinon MK series is their closest competitor (which it kinda is... and isn't.... as yeah, they're also a low priced cine zoom! Very appealing. But not PL mount), then the Venus Optics zoom has to come in around US$3K or lower to be competitive against the Fujinon.

OH WHOOPS! Ignore my late night typos just before I fall asleep.... a 25-250mm would be a BEAST of a lens! ha But nah, I meant of course their mid range zoom of 25mm to 100mm Because.... Finally! An affordable mid range zoom for PL mount? But no pricing indication. As it is from Venus Optics it has got to be "cheap" If it is US$1K then I'd buy it!! But probably more like US$3K is my guess Which if I was still camera dept focused, then I'd probably do it? But no way I could justify that now I've noticed URSA Mini 4.6K PL (NOT Pro) sells for a lot cheaper than the EF version Exactly because of this cost factor of PL lenses But I reckon if you pair it with this lens plus a Chinese converted Sigma 18-35mm (the f1.8 then has you covered for low light, & the 18mm has you covered for wiiide. The two areas this lens lacks) you'd be sorted Although of course here I am talking with my business hat on rather than my artist hat We don't even know how the lens looks yet Just I know 25-100mm T2.9 lightweight zoom would be hella practical for many low to mid level budget shoots Even TV series shoot (with budgets per hour far higher than I've ever managed as DP!) on zooms! Because it is what is economical And it is on exactly zoom ranges like this. Perhaps with something like a 16-40mm Optimo on the other camera. You'd do 16mm and 25mm for the wide establishments , then punch in to 40mm and 80mm for the close up coverage
  14. If you're paying your crew less than a hundred bucks a day each then it is an exaggeration to call it a micro budget film, either just flat out call it a "no budget film" or an ultra micro budget film

I very keenly want that new Laowa 25-250 T2.9!! But I fear it will be an "affordable" price that is outside my grasp, but I hope not.
  16. Or keep an eye out for pricing on the Venus Optic's new Laowa 25-100mm T2.9 cine zoom. It is really hard for a director to focus on story and the actor's performance for it, when he is being distracting by operating the camera (plus lighting!) and managing sound as well. Then it is very disheartening when a quarter of the way through you listen/watch back what you've got so far, and realize half of it is trash due to technical faults.... So saying "you don't care about all those other things" is only an even greater reason to try and get some crew on board.
  17. Can't you find a budding aspiring cinematographer to work with? As cinematography isn't your #1 priority (writing is) that would very simply answer all your camera concerns! You use instead what he decides for you is best for your project. And of course find some willing sucker to do sound too....
  18. Or just do one step better and get the GH5! ?
  19. Is it though? Is it really? Seriously? As most budgets when 4K 60fps is "essential" can afford whatever cameras they like 1.3x crop, for 4K 60fps might as well buy a Panasonic GH5S and a focal reducer!
  20. Oh! I didn't know the Sony FDR-AX100 got updated to the newer Sony FDR-AX700 Other than 100 Mb/s XAVC S what other benefits are there? Ohhhh... and lots more slow motion modes! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/compare/Sony_FDR-AX700_4K_Camcorder_vs_Sony_FDR-AX100E_4K_Ultra_HD_Camcorder_PAL/BHitems/1362622-REG_1064108-REG
  21. Still a hell of a lot more expensive than a FZ2500 is though
  22. You should just uprez your 720p videos to 4K then upload! ? Bet 99% of them won't comment on it! The guy you linked to is someone who has been working with/for Devin Graham for years, so of course he is going to be biased towards Canon! We got surprised! The Nikon Z6 was sub $2K Well, Canon didn't surprised, we all expected to be disappointed. They lived up to expectations.
