Actually's the AtomX modules are cheaper if you're already using the monitor. Timecode has truly become mind boggling cheap to use on set! And no, you do not need to use an external audio recorder with Tentacles.

Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
That was specifically mentioned in the notes of the video by the uploader, that he had some stuck pixels but that is because he had a very early pre production model. So this is of no great concern to me. -
The best TV scene of the year! Maybe a short film about Not Buying Cameras?
-
Which Netflix already allows you a certain percentage of shots to be from those non-officially approved cameras which are already listed, specifically for situations like that. But that is so wrong to think, and I wouldn't want us to be encouraging that kind of incorrect thinking that: Netflix = "must have a 4K finish"
-
Yes, because previously the only monitor/recorder I knew of which does timecode is the pricey/bulky 7Q. Otherwise you have to use the Aux LTC work around. Or have one of the very rare stills cameras which is at the moment kinda only sort of the GH5S. (but maybe soon also the Nikon Z6/Z7)

The Fujinon MK zooms (you can use it on Kinefinity/Sony/FujiFilm/MFT/etc cameras) works in conjunction with the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x - 65 (the focus gear version) with the new PDmovie follow focus to achieve a calibration of two focus motors to work in sync giving one focus ring to turn to focus both the Anamorphot and the Fujinon MK zoom simultaneously! This is needed since the Anamorphot and the Fujinon MK zoom have different focus rotation throw. Adorama looks at it and the video is timestamped at where Andrew Chan talks about the PDMovie calibration focus sync:

https://www.newsshooter.com/2018/09/17/atomos-ninja-v-modules-ibc-2018/ This is exciting news for any slightly more professional shoots who are either using multiple cameras and/or an external audio recorder, as Atomos is partnering with TCS to use their :blink network with their AtomX Sync module. Now all your stills cameras (such as the Nikon Z6) that are recording 10bit externally will have flawlessly done timecode (without needing to do any Aux LTC to TC conversion in post). I'm personally especially happy about this news, because Timecode Systems is one of the two brands I'm invested in! Thus the Atomos Ninja V will be compatible with my existing kit.

Even if they'd used an EVA1/FS5/C200 then odds are high the final rig would still look almost very similar overall. I reckon if that was posted now in 2018 then we'd still be seeing people rip mercilessly into it!

BMD has their own forums as well: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewforum.php?f=2 And then there is also the dvxuser spinoff, bmcuser: http://www.bmccuser.com/forumdisplay.php?5-General-Discussion

Ah yes, exactly what I thought! Those are not "bad videos" They might not be to other people's tastes (K Pop isn't for everyone), but that doesn't mean those are "bad videos" composed of nothing but "tits and ass!" I wonder if he owns though an URSA Mini Pro? As I've noticed that referenced in some shots of videos that he has filmed himself.
-
I'd disagree that this video is just "tits and ass", it actually has some quality production values behind it (even that it isn't to my tastes, and certainly not yours it seems) and it would have taken a decent sized budget and team to have pulled this off. Oh, and if we're defining "best" work in terms of number of views, this channel has several other videos with even more views than that one, this being their most popular video on the channel with 7.5 million views: Now their most popular video (like the one you shared as well) is a remix. Go and look at all their videos, sorted by popularity: https://www.youtube.com/user/areiacreations/videos?view=0&sort=p&flow=grid As you look through all their most popular videos you see a theme..... remixes! This immediately seemed a bit strange to me, and I thought no way on earth could this be original video content being shot for all these remix videos? As I do appreciate the quality of the video productions behind these, and I know it is highly unlikely people would be going to such lengths to do this for so many remixes. So let's take the video's name which you shared and put it into the search bar, we get this: Yup, Areia Creations definitely did not shoot this! They just came up with their own remix, and then pulled a video edit out of the original music video which I'm sure was shot by someone else. Did a quick check of a bunch more remixes they did, and this theme was running through all of them. So has Areia Creations done anything themselves? (aside from a few BMPCC4K clips!) Well, when I go back to their channel's home page I see they have a playlist which says "Areia Originals". Ah ha! Have we found their real music videos which they've done themselves? Well, kinda, sort of. As it says: "We have either done the music, the song, the music video, the publishing or a combination of these" Thus they might have done the music video itself, or they might not have.... Anyway, here are the "Areia Originals": https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4gi4Gw3hd6XcFY7xFfCApRuo5Jt58wc_ Now, they've got a few nice videos there in their "originals" playlist but also you can immediately tell that they're on average much smaller productions than their most popular videos on their youtube channel.

I prefer this version:
-
I'm not buying another camera until triple card slots become standard.
-
Aside from anti-single SD card slot, I haven't seen any large amounts of negativity against the Nikon Z6?! Where have you been seeing that?
-
lol! Totally going to steal this ?
-
I'm glad they're working with Timecode Systems as that means it is very likely compatible with their :blink network, and thus also with my existing Timecode Systems equipment I own. Fingers crossed they'll have an option with timecode and an SDI input, as that is what I'd want to use with a Sony FS700. A small recorder with SDI for 4K raw and TC (as the FS700 lacks that itself).
-
Exactly. To be on Netflix in general there are no minimum requirements. You could shoot it on 8mm film! Or an iPhone! Or heck, even a Barbie Doll Camera! If you can make it work for your story. It is only for Netflix commissioned Nexflix Originals, which 99% of us on this forum are not going to be pulling the strings on with producing it at a high level. And *IF* you are in that situation, you'll also have provided a budget which is plenty large enough you don't have to instead go with whatever is the current hot EOSHD forum camera darling. The ARRI Alexa XT/SXT/Mini and Amira are fantastic cameras, and we stream plenty of content that was captured with these cameras. However, since these cameras do not have true 4K sensors, we cannot accept them for our 4K Original productions.

Waaaaiiiiit...... what??? Where did you read that? This is sad news. Hopefully the original BMPCC!
-
Then they repeated the same trick for the a7Smk4.... "Got to save something for the a7Smk5 you know...."
-
I wouldn't mind if we all stopped talking about cameras for the rest of 2018 and only talked about lighting!
-
There is a wide variety of filmmaking YouTube channels. Not all areas are equally crowded. Camera dept related BTS? Very very very crowded! Audio BTS?? Dead. Just dead. Almost completely empty. Only myself + Matt Price + RLFO are the rare regulars anywhere on YouTube. Lighting? Again, fairly empty. Luke Seerveld would be the main guy here, plus say Matt Workman often goes quite into detail about lighting set ups, but doesn't really do much of the BTS thing. So yeah, focus on Lighting Setup BTS should be your thing! Clearly you're great at it, and this is an unfilled niche on YouTube. I fully agree, you need to either find it worthwhile for your professional career or just simply get pure enjoyment out of it. I'd suggest focusing on the 2nd area first. Just do occasional YouTube BTS videos, when you feel like it and inspiration hits. They don't have to be super regular, they could be months apart. Plus a YouTube channel is a long term thing, start it out now, you get to slowly build up the channel in a natural manner and figure out your style (I still don't know mine... and I've been doing it for well over a year! And on a very regular basis). Then you already have a good fledgling YouTube channel base to start out from sometime in the future if you do decide to take it more seriously, and say do regular bi-weekly content. Rather than starting from scratch with zero.

I've had a few photographer friends talk well about the D7000 though. Certainly would be an upgrade to the D90 I use! (well, I have a D5200, but need the D90 for the screw drive lenses I own. Actually the D90's is my GF's I live with, but I suppose I'll lose access to the D90 when we break up.... ha)
-
If only you'd waited one generation longer and got the D7100! I do sometimes get tempted to buy a D7000 myself, because they are dirt cheap on ebay and as a still camera they're pretty good for their price
-
Just pick up a Sony EX1 and be done with all this camera nonsense for another decade!

Could be a good idea to added some interviews to the EOSHD YouTube channel if Andrew feels like that is something he'd enjoy doing? I know on my own YouTube channel an interview I did at a trade show is my most viewed video! (which is awful.... as I hate that video, oh well) Is why I often recommend to people we shoot ProRes HQ for a project (especially long projects like a feature film), as you lose only a little vs raw but you gain a much more hassle free life!
